I'd be interested how you deal with getting saddle sore on these long rides. Custom seat? Air/Grl seat pad? Padded shorts? I'd be interested to know, I've got some serious rides planned for 2023 on my Tracer 9gt.

I think you are right about the Hyperstrada but here is another interesting point of view every american should consider: if you do 110 miles with a full tank, that means that you can pretty much do Italy coast to coast with 1 full tank and top to bottom with 6. I think sometimes you forget how huge (and beautiful) your country is.

    • @pmdinaz
      @pmdinaz ปีที่แล้ว +2

I've seen many movies, shows, videos of Italy, and it looks stunning. That's a helluva compliment, Nik! A sentiment I do share! I love our (my) beautiful, messed up at times, country! I fought for it..I'm keepin it :) 50 years on the planet, and I've got a few more states to cover.

Having owned a Hyperstrada, the first three minutes gave me flashbacks.
One big thing to keep an eye on with these bikes: The throttle-by-wire can short out in heavy rain. If this occurs once, it'll continue to randomly pop up without any real rhyme or reason. When the short happens, your bike will die, even if you're doing 85 in busy traffic on the freeway at night. Sometimes you can restart it while riding, sometimes you can't.
Don't listen to the dealership that wants to disassemble your bike and check every connector at $150/hr shop rate. Instead, check the Ducati recall info for the part number of the replacement throttle assembly and swap it out yourself.
And keep a plastic bag handy to cover the right side of the handlebars if you need to park it in the rain.
I recommend a taller windscreen, as well as strapping a two small gas canisters somewhere just as backup to get you to the next station if need be.
These bikes are insanely fun, and undeniably gorgeous. But dealerships will treat you like a walking piggy bank, and the service intervals are unpleasantly short.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it: you want to tuck your ground sheet under your tent. If the footprint of the tarp is larger than the tent and it rains then you're stuck in a puddle. If you tuck the tarp in under your tent then you won't run into that problem. Great video my guy! Looking forward to doing some Moto camping from my CBR650R. Keep up the great work.

Just the fuel tank is small 16 L where there was 1 part the nearest city was 320 km and had to look for fuel in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. Luckily the was a kiosk selling fuel of course at a higher price, just to get me to refuel at the next town. Great bike , nimble but a bit small though.

Been watching a few of your videos and been thinking you look familiar. After watching this one, I realized I've seen you around at Forgotten Angels a year ago. You going again? I'm hitting the road tomorrow from Mississippi. Just subbed too.

stopping every 90 mins or 120 miles on my moto was good for my butt as well as back .. now my bike is not a long hauler but definitely need that 6th gear to help those miles go longer lol. Anyway glad you had a good time on your trip. and maybe a larger tank for you, a 6th gear for me or a different bike for me to do the long haulers. LOL.. great vid as always cheers.

Next time you head through Pensacola, check out El Asador for some of the best tacos you'll ever have- they top what I've gotten in Ft. Worth and LA.

Nice job Spite! You are very correct, in your comments, about how awesome FA/STS-Weirdo Camp out is. Quite possibly, life changing in the most wonderful way. I might ride out this time (Seattle>>>Tampa 3,090 mi.) See you in October.

Tuck the ground cloth under the tent floor. This is so that rain/dew running down the sides of the tent doesn't end up on top of the ground cloth.

You and I had similar crazy ideas this spring it seems 😂 I put 1000 miles on my new sv650 in the span of 2 days. Literally rode all the way across NC back hone to the Blue Ridge parkway and spent a day in the twisties then went down to SC and left the next morning back to the coast of NC. Only luggage I brought was a backpack…needless to say it was a grueling way to christen me and the new bike…I have a tail bag and windscreen now😂

I love it, I have the original Hyper 2008 done some 3000 mile tours on it. Worse seat in the world but if find twisty roads well worth the pain.Yep Duc tanks suck. Always carry extra fuel.

You did it but right tool for the job if you went on a Goldwing you could have put the windshield up turned on the heated grips and seat and cruised 200 miles or more before stopping for gas

Time for a GSA. Better wind protection and over 300 mile range. At the next one. I can supply a nice 8x8ft tent. I live 15 min away.

About the same fuel range as my Dorsoduro 900.
Lost count of how many fuel stops I had to do during my road trip to Bathurst NB from Quebec city.

I have the same exact bike. I took off the screen and replaced it with a CF shorty and it is much better. The only time I'd use the touring screen is like you when the temp drops. I've taken the Hyper on shorter trips, 200-300 miles, but I must confess, as much as I love it, if I were traveling that distance, I'd be on my Multistrada. Besides longer range, a bit better comfort, and wind protection, the extra power on the highway makes it, IMHO, better for long distances. That said, great video. If you ever get back to MS, I know some good roads to ride.

I had the same windscreen problem with my bike. I bought a taller "touring" screen hoping to deflect more wind, and it did. But it deflected it all into my face so your head buffeted around all day and made your neck sore. Went back to the shorty screen.

I think most of us Hypermotard riders suffer from too much wind and a HORRIBLE seat. Could never imagine doing 2500 miles on my Hypermotard 950. And we can get 120-140 miles on our tanks. Kudos to your ability to do this.

The great difficulty you have with weather might be mitigated by buying a 1-piece Aerostich suit. Cool in summer, warm in winter, and very rain resistant indeed. They even come with an inside back pouch where you can throw a bit of ice as a form of incredibly effective air-conditioning that lasts several hours.

I am surprised it was that much of a struggle. I thought your bike much more comfortable. Though when I did my Super Duke tour in Europe I had about 200mile tank ranges.
