We transformed a patch of dirt and weeds into a lush lawn for our energetic Shiba Inu, Fuji. When we moved into our new property in April 2022, the outdoor area was a mess, with weeds up to our hips and mud being tracked into the house constantly. We opted for sod installation, but unfortunately, it died quickly due to the intense heat and our lack of experience in lawn care.

I ran into the same problems as you when I first starting to grow grass. Ranking by importance, (1) Rake your lawn to remove all dead grass to expose the soil, (2) Pre-germinate the grass seeds, (3) Mow the lawn down to half an inch thick, (4) Mix the Pre-germinated seeds with fertilizer like Miloganite, (4) Even spread it over your lawn, (5) Water your lawn for 15 minutes every 6 hours. In days you will see new grass growing.

I watched so many videos before I decided to just jump in there and try it and I was surprised by how fast it grew! Great list! I’ll have to try pre germinating the seeds next time.
