Hi! My name is Jenny and this is my baby dog Fuji! We are passionate about learning new skills like growing our own food, seasonal cooking, natural living, diy projects and even filming and editing videos on TH-cam….!!
We are learning how to be self sufficient while living minimally and making things from scratch on our 1/2 acre property in Southern California, zone 10.
We love to work with our hands…and paws as a way to stay healthy by getting exercise doing our day to day activities around the property. We would love to share what we are up to and what we’ve been doing to create our very own tropical farmstead. We hope you enjoy learning and growing with us!

This Is HOW We Transformed Our Yard - If I can do it, you can too! We transformed a patch of dirt and weeds into a lush lawn for our energetic Shiba Inu, Fuji. When we moved into our new property in April 2022, the outdoor area was a mess, with weeds up to our hips and mud being tracked into the house constantly. We opted for sod installation, but unfortunately, it died quickly due to the inten...

Stock can be a double or single flower. The one you thought might be bolting is just a single. Totally normal. Just not as full or pretty as the doubles
Thank you Colleen!
You need to be more gentle with your stems. Also why are you using a colander to it blooms on. Should be going directly into a bucket of fresh cold water.
I’m not sure why I used a colander? 🤣🤣 a bucket of water makes much more sense. First time growing cut flowers. Good to know one and done!
Stock is one and done. They will not branch.
Yep! Rainbow Quartet variety is the only one I know that is cut and come again but hard to come by in the past year
Hi Jinny❤your garlic is too big a nice harvest. What variety is itthe bread looks yummy ❤❤new subscriber
Welcome!! Thank you so much. The bread is a sourdough focaccia! I linked the recipe in the description
Looking amazing! You will attract so many benificial insects and pollinators 🐞🦋🐝
Thank you!
Nice❤
Cosmos are so resilient!
They sure are! And so beautiful!
I found it a lot easier to advertise fresh market delivery for $25 and make one or two hundred dollars week from from gardening
Great idea! 🙏🏻
How do you deal with the ground squirrels?
So far I’ve just been putting Fujis dog poo in the holes as long as it is not close to anything edible 🤣
i'm honestly jealous of that bougainvillea! i wonder if you could retrain it to just cover the fence so you get the privacy without it overcrowding your other planned gardening
That is a beautiful idea!! I really want to cover that fence and the vines are really long right now. Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I'm actually trying a few corn plants for the first time this year😳 will see how it goes....my hint to you is think FREE is best for the garden! If it's free and is useful or repurposedable for the garden then perfect!
Thanks Dennis! I’m glad you are trying corn it was so fun to eat raw straight from the garden. Happy gardening and good luck with your corn!
Deal with it or move, they were there first you weirdo.
I always open the hole and put like three long tree branches in the hole and repeat when they dig to the surface again, the branches prevent the gopher from going to surface and they have to keep reorganzing their path to the surface instead of eating.
That’s a great idea. Thanks for the tip!
I was like, try not to say like.
Nice video. Can we see more of the snake?
I had one many years ago and I have a small yard so it made alot of damage. An old mexican gardner told me to pee in the holes and it would leave. They think a predator is in its home and leaves. I did it and it worked. Never came back.
Good one! I’ll have to tell my husband to try that 🤣
I ran into the same problems as you when I first starting to grow grass. Ranking by importance, (1) Rake your lawn to remove all dead grass to expose the soil, (2) Pre-germinate the grass seeds, (3) Mow the lawn down to half an inch thick, (4) Mix the Pre-germinated seeds with fertilizer like Miloganite, (4) Even spread it over your lawn, (5) Water your lawn for 15 minutes every 6 hours. In days you will see new grass growing.
I watched so many videos before I decided to just jump in there and try it and I was surprised by how fast it grew! Great list! I’ll have to try pre germinating the seeds next time.
What zone are you in
We are in zone 10 so cal!
Perennial peppers 🤯 so fun watching you grow in such a different climate to me! (Zone 3b)
I didn’t know they could be perennials either! But I’m excited to see if I can keep them going.
If the slug bait is iron phosphate based it won't harm anything beneficial
Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to check the label. It was bonfide/captain jacks
I've just started doing a Homestead, I Live in the UK and managed to get my first proper home with a large garden. so excited and it also has an apple tree in it :D I'm completely new but looking forward to learning
Congratulations on your homestead! I am pretty new too and it has been so exciting learning!
loved watching your video could you do a tour of all the trees you have please. looks great!
Thank you so much!! Yes of course!! I do a tour every month and may is coming up soon
@@Fujisfarmstead let me get lurking then. i just started following so need to go catch up on previous videos. 😜
@@denissesheartyhomestead welcome to the farmstead! We are going to have so much fun this season and we are so glad you are coming along with us! 🙏🏻
That’s a lot of celery! Will be following for the potato harvest 😆
I’m excited to see how they do this year!!
I love your idea of leaving the leftover celery to decompose! Well done - keep it simple. How are you using/preserving all the celery stalks?
Thank you!! I chopped up the stalks and spread them out on a baking sheet and flash freeze it! And then I put it all in a plastic bag and leave it in the freezer for future recipes! Just grab a handful of celery and throw it in a soup or stew or Braise! It works beautifully
@@Fujisfarmstead awesome! My celery is still quite small, as I'm in the midwest, zone 5b. But hopefully I can do something similar later this season!
I love the purple color! I've never had fried artichokes, but I will definitely try it out when mine are ready. Beautiful presentation!
It’s so pretty! And you have to try it fried. It was my first time and I wanted to try something special. I got the seeds a few years ago from baker creek. The variety is Violet de Provence Artichoke
@@Fujisfarmstead thanks! I will definitely be planting some purple ones to go with my green globe
Where did you buy your yuzu tree from?
I am pretty sure I got it at green thumb nursery in San Marcos. They have a big variety of citrus there!
I went from your Vlog to Roots and Refuge Farm My Mama Bear Comes Out Vlog- she has an incredible perspective on the plastic cups and so much more-I think you’ll enjoy her vlog- 🙏🏾 hope your feeling better from your hospital stay
Yes I love her channel. She is very knowledgable! I liked using the solo cups bc they are really high so I just kept adding dirt as the seedlings got bigger over the past few months and I didn’t need to repot a bunch of times.
BRAVO BRAVO your tomatoes look incredible- I like the idea of using the red cups-honestly, you have a very organic almost enchanting garden and your right investing in so many different garden toys can be expensive- thank you for sharing all your knowledge- HAPPY EARTH DAY💐
Thank you so much!! I am so excited to try them. I haven’t tried most of the varieties I am planting this year! Happy earth day to you too
What is the vining plant on the espalier in the background of your thumbnail?
It is pink jasmine!!
Thanks! I’m looking it up now. Happy to see I can grow it in zone 8! A lovely plant. 😊
@@Mitzi.B it grows quickly and has been an easy plant so far!
so helpful. i started small soil blocks this season and tried smaller trays but i like the use of the food containers! im still trying to get a hang of placing similar sprouting plants together. learning curve for sure.
Yes! I really love the soil blocks, they grow super fast and take up very little space. I’m still learning as well so I wanted to share!
😍
Thanks for watching!! ❤❤❤
I really enjoyed your video thank you I am learning a lot. I also laughed when you used the kitchen knife to prune the tree lol
lol!! I am so glad you liked it!! It’s fun trying new things and seeing what works and what doesn’t.
I sprouted my tubers in a ziplock with moist soil & it worked amazing. You can hang them wherever. I saw that it was the latest sprouting idea trending in a dahlia group.
I love that idea!! Thank you so much for sharing!
Your passion and love for gardening was so obvious- your garden is enchanting- I’m anxious to see it bloom into the seasons✨
Thank you so much for your kind words 🙏🏻 I’m excited to share how it progresses!

Thank you so much! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I am so glad you liked it!

Wow zone 3! Thanks for stopping by!
Sir Fuji is adorable!! I'm starting my seeds off tomorrow and this video has me all excited!! Would love to know how you get on with transplanting the zinnias, I was going to start mine indoors but saw some videos saying they are better sown direct, may try both and see!! It looks like we're going to be growing alot of the same flowers, look forward to watching along as your garden grows!
Thank you so much!! I just started transplanting them outdoors and it is not going well so far. They are being eaten up by something…probably a slug or snail. 🥲🥲🥲 thankfully I started a bunch as backup so I will let you know how things go on the next round. I haven’t had much luck direct sowing seeds for most things because of pests, birds, and the weather right now. Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏻
Your videos are amazing! If you like farming or harvesting videos, I look forward to having you visit my channel to have relaxing moments together!
