    Thank you for this video. I use old area rugs for this purpose but a moving blanket would be much better since it is bigger and would be easier to shape and cut. I will be trying this.😊

      And its also more flexible so it shapes itself to the ground and covers it without gaps.

    Cardboard is a breeding ground for palmetto bugs and like two more species of roaches in my backyard in sunny South Florida. I learned my lesson after leaving for the winter and coming back in spring to fallen leaves and now it summer the leaves are still there and the roaches have taken over my backyard. I am terrified of roaches so the delay of racking the leaves pulling up the cardboard and treating the soil is yet to be completed.😢

      It should not be an issue with the moving blanket as it doesnt decompose like cardboard.

      good luck with your invasion. I've found that spiders also, love the cardboard & pavers.

      For me I find that cardboard also attracted mice by the hundreds. The cats liked it but I did not. They nibbled on my veggies. Dam mice. I will def try the moving blankets.
      Can I leave them out all winter? So I can start with a weedless garden first thing in the spring?

    Would it be okay to layer the blanket with mulch on top of it? I'm attempting to get rid of weeds in my garden bed.

      I wouldn't. Any fabric left forever on the ground becomes a nuisance over time. it'll deteriorate, and with time something will try to grow through it and the roots become entangled, it'll shred with time, etc.

  • @jeffandstuff821

    Can the moving blanket stay permanently like landscape fabric without being a liability??

    • @GARDENING_foraging
      @GARDENING_foraging  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I never recommend landscape fabric. It deteriorates with time, even the moving blanket, and then weeds or grass will start trying to grow through it, and they'll be very hard to remove. I recommend several layers of newspaper instead.

    Would it work unfolded? Or is it best to leave it folded?

    • @GARDENING_foraging
      @GARDENING_foraging  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When it's folded it's just heavier and stays wet longer. It should work unfolded but if you see it drying out fast and grass lifting it in spots, put some bricks on top.

    • @GARDENING_foraging
      @GARDENING_foraging  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      this one was for about 2 months, I think because it was kind of forgotten, but you can raise a corner from time to time and check underneath if anything is still growing.

    I found your video because I'm researching for a way to create a smooth patch to lay down gazebo flooring. I only need 1 inch patch of dirt since I'm using the self install ikea tiles, and I picked a spot that has grass over it and need to remove the grass.
    How long does the process take if I use this method? And after I pull up the moving material, there is no additional digging or removal needed? Your outcome picture seemed to have completely cleared it out. Is it really that easy?

    • @GARDENING_foraging
      @GARDENING_foraging  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It'll probably depend on several factors, like the weather, where you are and what weeds, what grass you are trying to kill. If i remember correctly, the blanket in the video was left for about 2 months, in the summer. I didnt remove anything from underneath and no digging, it was exactly how i found it under the blanket. But the ground wont be flat as a table as there are are air pockets, rocks, etc in the soil, so once its flattened by the blanket, it may be slightly uneven but im guessing you'd be putting some sand under the tiles, that would even it.

      So we have dug down about 4-6 inches and wants to put shingle over the top as to make a seating area/sun lounger but want to know will the blanket have to be removed or can the shingle go on top as to stop the weeds grass growing back ? Thanks

    Can i place cardboard under my raised bed without removing grass (lawn) ?

    • @GARDENING_foraging
      @GARDENING_foraging  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes. The cardboard will smother the grass and prevent it from growing through the soil in the bed.

    How long does it take to kill the grass and weeds

    • @GARDENING_foraging
      @GARDENING_foraging  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The blanket in the video was left for about 2 months, forgotten. I did not check on it during this time so dont know how fast all the grass/weeds were killed. I assume much earlier than 2 months as there was nothing left under the blanket, not even dead plants.

    Which kind of blanket is it cotton inside it or it’s a fabric?

    • @GARDENING_foraging
      @GARDENING_foraging  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Its a moving blanket that moving companies use. They are made of shredded fabric inside with thin fabric bottom and top and stitched together. It makes it very pliable and heavy when wet.

    • @Birdie83

      @@GARDENING_foraging I really appreciate you I use it and it’s really working but I have a question it’s gonna be always like that or we able to take it off after killing all the weeds?

    • @GARDENING_foraging
      @GARDENING_foraging  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Birdie83 depends what you want to do with the spot. If you leave the blanket, it'll slowly start disintegrating. When you take the blanket off, you can expect some weeds to start growing again because wind, animals, etc constantly bring new seeds.

    • @GARDENING_foraging

    • @GARDENING_foraging

      the cardboard will still warp and raise up from the ground in places when dry. Or you have to use a ton of water to wet it as cardboard dries out quickly.

    • @GARDENING_foraging

      If you have too many grasshoppers, make your garden spider-friendly (with undisturbed areas). They'll take care of grasshoppers naturally.
