6:27 This looks very natural and much more practical than the figure 8 spins. I'm learning to use tonfa and I find karate-style motions are very well suited. Even tai chi "Brush knee twist step" is very similar for a low guard / counterattack. Tonfa only get confusing when attempting to use as a flail instead, which seems very Hollywood by comparison. Thanks for the demonstration , some solid stuff in here.
Arigato sensei, Do you plan follow up videos with additional tonfa content? In case you have a course, can you post the link? Thank you and best regards
Thanks sensei, I'll revisit this often. During my swings, if I keep tapping my forearm or elbows, is it because I'm gripping the tonfa incorrectly, swinging it at a bad angle, or something else? Funny as it may sound, out of a casual interest, I only got foam tonfas to avoid hurting myself, but friction might be a factor.
Arigato Sensei. I was thinking of buying tonfa for exercise and martial arts fun, but also as an alternative to self defence at home instead of a baseball bat. Would it be good for that?
@@KohjiKatoh thank you so much, I bought some but they are glossy and seem to get stuck when trying to twirl them. Think the more sanded down feel would be easier to twirl?
That's a cool video, would definitely use some of the training tools shown here! But the gedan-uke feels weird : in my school (Matayoshi kobudo, transmitted by Chinen-sensei), we don't really swing the tonfa, we just "deploy it" and use it to make a lower gedan-barai, which seems in my opinion more interesting, due to the fact that there is a lesser risk of swinging it too far away, or the fact that the timing is much wider to block a knee strike. Is there a specific reason you do it this way?
Look this is what I think karate is karate is KOBUDO karate is weapons training just without the weapons 🤨 it's just been diluted to such a degree that people have forgotten the history of it 😳

What would be the first weapon to practice, sai or tonfa???
Bo and Sai are the first weapons to learn for Ryukyu kobudo but I think you can start from whatever you like.
Hi, can you tell me where to buy your Tonfa❓
Mine is Shurei do Tonfa.
You can buy it online.
木製のトンファーで練習していますが、滑りが悪く、滑らかに回転させるのが難しいです。
もちろん練習は必要ですが、グリップを滑りやすくする必要がありますか
What does komi mean ?
It means "in" or "into".
Oh cool
Can u pls make one of these Videos with Toke-kagi sry if i pronounced it wrong
Unfortunately, i don't know what Toke-kagi sry is.

@@KohjiKatoh its an acient japanese weapon used by some shinobi some people call these weapon Wolverine claws too
@@chakiblazreg2661 ok, you mean Tekko kagi, right?
