    Hello. I was considering buying a pair of Sais and trying to train with TH-cam videos like this. But I am afraid that I might accidentally hurt myself. I have seen there are also plastic "practice Sais" (same size, same shape). Do you think I could begin with practice Sais? Or do you think their difference in weight will just be too different to be the equivalent of real Sais??

    • @KohjiKatoh
      @KohjiKatoh  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for watching!
      I recommend you to begin with real Sais if you are an adult because weight is totally different.
      I think you don’t have to worry about hurting yourself so much.
      Hope my answer helps you.

      @@KohjiKatoh How can I find out the laws of if a Sai is legal in New York City? In other words: If I know of a store that sells Sais, can I buy them and then carry them around on the street? If I own a pair of Sais, is it legal to take them to a New York City park and then practice swinging them around in in the park?

    Just curious, I'm just wondering what the difference is between Shotokan and Okinawan Karate?

    • @KohjiKatoh
      @KohjiKatoh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There are many differences between them.
      I think the most different thing is how to use the body.

  • @nickfry7839
    @nickfry7839 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i just got into the sais and have been watching videos. some people say you should turn your hands parallel to the body when you chamber your hands to not get poked by the secondary prongs on the sais. i noticed you dont do that. is it not necessary?

    • @KohjiKatoh
      @KohjiKatoh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the style.
      In my style, it is said that Sais shouldn't be parallel to the body.
      This is a difference in the way of thinking:)

    The sai is not properly chambered. Nice stance work, good form, but the sai is improperly chambered which reveals the shortcomings of this practitioner. Serious martial artist will know what I'm talking about.
