      Been tempted to see what all the hub-bub about this machine was about. I've seen a ton of them in pawn shops,eBay, and guitar center then I look online to see people hyping them up. Seems to have alot of mixed reviews on it as well. Between you and knocks squared I can see the workflow seems easy and very adaptable. Ive been on the mv8800 since the day it came out, along with my dr5, and not a computer in sight... Whenever I see a machine like that on resale sites it makes me question it. I don't see any vids on my machines as of 2018 but they're a beast.

      Mikro Mk3, and I already had a Maschine Mk2. I've been making music almost totally in-the-box since the 90s, so my habits are terrible: my brain is always on the computer, I've been sample-editing on PCs for more than 20 years, and it's hard to tear my attention away. The Maschine has its little screens and other extras, but I don't use them much, so there was no point any more. As you say, the Maschine isn't bag-friendly but the Mikro is (and there's that pressure strip, which I love) and I'm on a laptop now. I can put the laptop, a mini-synth and the Mikro all in the same shoulder bag. The Maschine's going to stay on the desk, but out of the way (sorry, Maschine).

    The Mikro has all the same capabilities of the regular Mk3...you just have to do some of them on the software only and not the hardware. It's not fair to say that the Mikro is limited, because it's not. It just forces you to do some things in the software. Some people won't like that, which is fine. If you want to only use hardware and barely use software, then get the regular MK3. But if you don't mind working in the software to chop your samples, then save some money and get the Mikro. It's not just for beginners. I've been making beats since 1996 when I bought my first MPC2000, and I just bought a Mikro this week. Otherwise, Sarah, good video.

    I hope they do a MK4 that's standalone. They would own the market.

      @terranceshumake2239 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fernando Mercado I totally agree. I feel like when Akai came out with Live they were forcing NI to make their move. The MK3 is almost standalone so I think the logical thing would be to make the MK4 standalone IMO.

    • @Beautyoutofruin

      Standalone should be mandatory by now

    • @Byronic19134
      @Byronic19134 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would def not own the market because Akai has been doing this shxt forever and understand it's completely workflow when you're full standalone so the software in the hardware gotta flow different. Like Akai got Splice built right into theyre standalones now which is a big deal.

    • @mattryan6886
      @mattryan6886 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it’s time for N.I to step up and make a stand alone controller. As for unseating Akai for top spot in that arena I’m not so sure. Akai has massive lead in terms of experience in the stand alone market. N.I would have to an exceptional piece of gear to dethrone the MPC. It’s possible however improbable. I think they could be tough competition for certain. Competition is good for consumers IMO....

    • @fernandomercado2711
      @fernandomercado2711 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MPC is a trash brand IMO. But that's just me. There's a lot of love in some circles, but the options are so much better now with other brands, specially considering how wonky, and buggy the latest AKAIs have been.
      Sure some geriatric boom-bappers will love it to death, but it's 2020 and the best they're giving us is a glorified linux touchpad + buttons? They're clowning and people are drinking the Kool-Aid

    Just get the DeckSaver for your MK3, they were meant to put gear with knobs and faders safely in any bag you want... and get it from Juno UK, they have them for much less than the inflated prices USA shops sell them for! Even with the air mail shipping, it’s less than half price. And no sales tax. I now have DeckSaver for all gear I have. (The availability of a DeckSaver or not for particular gear has even influenced some of my purchases, lol!)

    • @boothbuster
      @boothbuster 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, and if you get the Magma case/bag, it lets you pull out the foam insert so it will fit the Mk3 WITH the DeckSaver on it, while in the case. Then you can have it all with you all the time!

    To anyone who has a problem with not being able to chop samples from the Mikro hardware... use the Serato Sample plugin. I just got rid of my MK2 (macro) and got a Mikro MK3 and my workflow didn't change that much. I rarely used the screens on the MK2, so not having them on the Mikro isn't affecting my workflow.
    From all the reviews I've seen, before I purchased the Mikro, I would say it's mainly about your workflow. In-studio vs on-the-go and if you're MORE in-the-box vs being MORE hands-on.

    • @nathanjmansfield9969
      @nathanjmansfield9969 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you want to travel you still need the right tools to express yourself. Learn the tool and make it second nature. If you choose mk3 micro, you will need to get audio interface for using mic, guitar, vinyl sampling and midi interface just to do what the Maschine MK3 does internally.
      You chose the right equipment for sure. My Maschine MK2, jam and laptop fit in my backpack just fine.

    these fancy computer connected maschine samplers are cool, but I enjoy older standalone samplers (the Akai MPC2000xl, for example). They are very simple, but very good at what they do and I don't have to commit to a whole swarm of software environment aspects, since dependency on software makes me uncomfortable. The MK3 is a lot of fun and is probably one of the most intuitive samplers I have ever used. I just wish they would allow for standalone operation. The mikro seems a bit... neutered?

    By the way, you make a fair point about providing feedback, however I'm still sad the Maschine software never got audio track recording / overdubbing functionality, something it REALLY does need if you plan to do live vocals or live instruments using the Maschine. It's really annoying having to edit lots and lots of takes, instead of just setting a count-in, use audio tracks and really just do it in a single take. I used to do that on my Roland MV8800 and it just works.

    • @Sarah2ill
      @Sarah2ill  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean live looping? If so, that exist

    • @PHeMoX
      @PHeMoX 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sarah2ill Nah, I mean a recording mode for something like vocals or live instrument play that you don't sample to a pad, but instead record straight into an audio track that would be part of a scene. Now I have to sample to a pad, guess at the timing a little and do a lot of editing to make it start at the correct time. With an audio track you'd just use the regular count in of 2 bars and then record into a special audio track in the scene. Many Akai MPCs and the Roland MV8800 have them. Live looping you speak of is great, I use it all the time, but recording vocals or live instruments still feels clunky.

    If you need a bag for that the best way to go is DIY. The bags available are way too expensive for what they are and if NI change the hardware down the line you'll have to change the bag as well. This just happened with the Maschine MK2 stand not compatible with MK3. So some armor foam or bulk memory foam can get the job done along with a hot knife or box cutter. If you find some thinner foam sheets you can sandwich them together with spray paint from arts and crafts. My friend has an eurorack suitcase so to bring it prepatched to gigs he just uses big bubble wrap. Looks guetto but it do the job.

    Can't you just chop in the maschine software on the computer. Also you can buy a dj deck bag for the maschine mk3, That is what I did as it is nice and padded on the inside plus has compartments for cables and other little accessories.

    Maschine MK3 for me. I travel internationally with it. Many times I've considered buying the Mikro, what has kept me from buying is no headphone output.

      Try exporting your files. Choose the master as the source and choose where you want to save the file. I go over this in my maschine course. Sounds like it would be very helpful for you : bit.ly/_MaschineCourse

    I am not sure if the screens on regular helps a lot. It starting to be just fancy. Ex. FX, shown one under other in line on the siftware on PC, adding with 2 or 3 clicks. On MK3, pushing buttons with pictures.... Same on library: choosing from list, with search on keyboard. On Mashine pictures and knobs etc.

    Is the difference between the mikro and the mk3 just being able to chop samples?

  • @bentinho
    @bentinho 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've been using a Mikro MK2 for the past 2 years or so and the screen, even though its larger than the new one, is not really much more useful, imo. Sure you can slice a sample on it but it's not comfortable. The screen on the Mikro MK2 is somewhere between being too big for most of what you really use it for but too small for more complex things.

    I like it and want to save up and get one. I would just import a wave file to my DAW if that is possible, and chop it up from there. It's a plus if it has good drum sounds. I wish I knew more about the unit.
