Five m was the same until Rockstar said f it and just buys a full company to develop for gta 6 online. Sa-mp was too early to develop that idea again after they just failed whit gta 3. But SA-MP was big and still is for players whit lowend pc. Never got develop because was toooo soon and probably lost investors money the first time 😂.
gta 4 online was peak , money did not matter , all cars are the same performance the driving was fun and challenging and guns were just scattered across the map. Racing was more fun except if you miss a checkpoint that you went strait through , but motorcycle race with baseball bats was one of the best

Even though I think for a lot of people would be still a dissapoint even if the game was finished, because a lot of people just expected another "GTA" game, and Driver never was that, not even D3 with gunplay. About Driver SF, I agree is a huge underrated game, but for me, some things that the classic trilogy had were lost. It never had that supposed "return to the original formula".
Oh wow. This is actually incredibly interesting, especially the parts of the document that are reminiscent of the GTA RP servers we've seen in the past. It makes a lot of sense why R* hired the FIVEM developers now. They were basically making what R* had always envisioned for GTA multiplayer in the past. I can't wait to see what GTA 6 Online looks like now that they have those devs, and know what works and doesn't work from GTA V Online.

What's crazy is tons of these TTRPG/CRPG style concepts were ripped straight from Daggerfall, which also wanted to be multiplayer but was already getting feature creeped hard by the time that it released. maybe, but it would also take as long time as star citizen has taken too.. and i really dont see how they are going to make a proper GTA MMO work without server meshing which the Rage engine most definitly doesent have. All the 10 years retrofitting the CryEngine for star citizen would have to be done with the Rage engine too. The way the RP servers do multiplayer is that you basicly remote control a human, so the servers only really deal with the inputs from the players. This however has massive drawbacks as it causes shittons of desync so its not really a valid way of doing multiplayer on a large scale, like people playing a mod will accept it but as the main multiplayer i dont think people will. On that note im like nearly certain that the reason why this never came into fruition is becasue of the limited server capabilities at the time
This confirms absolutely nothing - this is a design document from 2001, for a game developed by 23, none of which still works for the company (I assume, maybe there are 1-3 left). Nothing here has any relevance to today - if they were so hellbent on bringing this iteration of GTAO out the door, they would have retried in GTA VC, GTA SA, and GTA 4. Only now that FiveM has taken off in 2019-2024 does Rockstar see how this could work once again. This document has no relevance today - GTA 6 Online is going to be based on a mix of GTA Online and FiveM most likely. Maybe it's two seperated modes - Rockstar's Next gen GTA Online and CFX.re's "SixM"...

We got the good timeline, considering the way they've milked GTA Online to death for so long now. Rockstar hiring the FiveM team is such a step in the right direction. Now we just need them to extend that collaboration to the broader scope of modders. They could have whole teams of people doing remote work and getting paid for it, while their core in-house staff works on the main stuff

You *do* have to level up your skills in GTAO. You literally have to pick what skills want already boosted when making a new character. They affect how well you can do things, like flying a plane, driving, how much stamina you have, how well you handle weapons, how stealthy you are, etc. And to improve them, you have to do the associated action. Want better control of planes? Fly more planes. Want to do more melee damage? Get more melee kills. Want to be more stealthy? Walk around while crouched. Want more stamina? Ride bikes or just start running. Do people seriously not know this?
I just want a gta combined with the Sims and sim city. We're u have needs and can interact with everything and go in every building. With real life graphics. You know eating sleeping putting gas in your car. Getting sick with illnesses. Using real life time. The cops keeping you in jail for months if u get caught committing a crime. Then it turns into a jail/prison simulator. And u must fight other inmates. break out and retake the streets and build up your empire. And get your revenge. It can have interior design and u can build and buy houses all across the huge map. I mean u need stuff to spend all that crime money on. Like houses clothes cars weapons. All kinds of customization. I've seen people commenting about servers not being powerful enough to handle this. Remember. We got counter strike 1.6 on a improved quake engine (goldsrc) back in 2001 working with 32 players connected simultaneously. I don't know how Rockstar would handle car physics and stuff like that but pvp is not that hard

i dont think there's any pre-alpha of gta 3 online at least the photo you talked about being a gameplay is what the hud should have been. probably just a map with 2 static npcs so you could see how it would look like (from a designer point of a view that document would help a lot)
What copies of GTA5 actually displayed the OG GTAO Logo? I just check my original GTA5 Xbox 360 game case from 2013 and it only displays the original GTA logo on the back, no GTAO logo present.

Swimming? So... that means the swimming was planned before GTA SA? I tought they planned that for VC too, but the time was to short to make animations, and context for it. It's also interesting because, we only knew about that game, it was abandoned because of the GTA 3D (later GTA 3). So... cronologically they developed the GTA 3D and the GTA Online at the same time, and when they realised, they can't produce these two, they scrapped the GTA O, and planned to include a Multiplayer mode in the GTA 3, wich has remains in the GTA 3 files.
@hatad321 I knew that, but sadly just the animations works. The game still consider the game in third person, so the peds and cars spawn around you like in third person mode.
this was never a secret there have been interviews with the housers where they admitted they tried to implement this in 3 and vice city but capabilities of the hardware were too complicated to get it done in time gtasa for pc was the first to actually see it through but with almost no support and eventually the community made their own ways

It was an unofficial multiplayer mod made by a small team. I think it came out like a year after San Andreas released on the PC. I used to play it too back in 2007-2008, had tons of fun.
its not really new to me, i remember finding this leak when i was 15 years old, now im 29. apparently fans have also decided to make their own multiplayer servers for gta 3 bu for me i played san andreas multiplayer known as SA MP. man playing airport wars was amazing in 2011 but sadly the servers went down, videos can still be found of airport wars though it was basically pink vs green and you have to invade the opponents airport and i guess do a team deathmatch it was so fun back then because people were laid back and not tryhard.
If that happened we would be waiting for gta san andreas to drop now

We know for a very long time now that gta 3 had a planned multiplayer. someone even found the deathmatch maps long ago.

It's also interesting because, we only knew about that game, it was abandoned because of the GTA 3D (later GTA 3). So... cronologically they developed the GTA 3D and the GTA Online at the same time, and when they realised, they can't produce these two, they scrapped the GTA O, and planned to include a Multiplayer mode in the GTA 3, wich has remains in the GTA 3 files.
First person was also planned for GTA3, it's still functional if activated in the code.
@hatad321 I knew that, but sadly just the animations works. The game still consider the game in third person, so the peds and cars spawn around you like in third person mode.
I just wish they hadn’t killed the GTAO stock market in place of releasing Shark cards and delaying the casino for another couple years
i think the new gta online which come with gta 6 will include roleplay like they planned it over 20 years ago.

this was never a secret there have been interviews with the housers where they admitted they tried to implement this in 3 and vice city but capabilities of the hardware were too complicated to get it done in time
gtasa for pc was the first to actually see it through but with almost no support and eventually the community made their own ways

This old online mode is not a alien thing if you were like me, and got to play Gta 1 and Gta 2 MP. Gta 1 multiplayer were something unique, very simple and the idea being born. Gta 2 mp still up if i'm not wrong through Game hunter.

It was an unofficial multiplayer mod made by a small team. I think it came out like a year after San Andreas released on the PC. I used to play it too back in 2007-2008, had tons of fun.

its not really new to me, i remember finding this leak when i was 15 years old, now im 29. apparently fans have also decided to make their own multiplayer servers for gta 3 bu for me i played san andreas multiplayer known as SA MP. man playing airport wars was amazing in 2011 but sadly the servers went down, videos can still be found of airport wars though it was basically pink vs green and you have to invade the opponents airport and i guess do a team deathmatch it was so fun back then because people were laid back and not tryhard.
