I remember seeing this the very first time as a kid and I remember thinking how exciting for Coronation street! Thanks very much for uploading - I've always wanted to see the fire episode again. I did feel sorry for Edna though.
Character 'Gene pool' at play - Edna Gee is the prototype/forerunner to both Vera Duckworth and Karen Philips/McDonald.....whilst Tricia Hopkins was obviously a forerunner to Suzie Birchall and later characters like Candace Stowe
its odd how character types revolve.eastenders were shit at it .dirty den was replaced by identical lookalike tricky dicky and the mitchell bros as grant left so often had numerous sets of crooked brothers to fill the gap and we had so many similar gangbosses it got impossible to tell them apart.vera and jack were bought in to be the new stan and hilda as age then death softened the characters and slowed them down .when jack and vera started to age the battersbys were the same type but younger .rita returned to the street really as the new version of elsie tanner who left then came back but was then in her 50s. percy sugden was the grumpy but secretly nice old man to fill the slot left by jack howarths death as albert.when jack duckworth called it a day they even had a very similar looking barman john michie who started like the younger jack then as soaps go became a serial killer or something.
@@mikekemp9877 Interesting point about 'Soap Gene Pool' - also Max Branning (EastEnders) was VERY Dirty Den-like, but it is fair to say that soaps in general do take elements of personalities from each other to create their own characters i.e Corrie legend Bet Lynch must have provided (intentional or maybe unintentional) the inspiration for the Kat Slater character in EastEnders, similarly Hilda Ogden must have partly inspired the Dot Cotton character as both were quite similar in personality.

Wow Coronation Street meets Towering Inferno!
Whetes hilda shes usually first on the scene
The heat of the fire melted her curlers an they all stuck to her hair - a right oogy mess it was
So, Edna opens the door, screams and evaporates into thin air?!?!?!?!?
Who in their right mind would lust after Ivy when they were married to Edna?
Some men get bored with filet steak all the time and start craving egg and chips
Fred Gee was not right in his mind though.

Poor Edna - I liked her - Its a shame she died though Vera Duckworth must have thanked her lucky stars she did because she took over that gap
