      AmericanTrucks Ford I want to go with a 24inc wheel on my 2015 f150 so what would be the best size to go with without any problem with rubbing but yet still enough tire for cushion on the ride

      I believe I have a negative "24" on mine, I have aftermarket wheels and tires and I have to take it back to Ford because they were never balanced correctly.

      @@americantrucks 1/9/20, There's really no reason to do this, the factory wheels do just fine, this is just something else to sell you. I live in farm country where contractors/farmers/ranchers w/real work trucks are outfitted w/the right equipment for what they do. Then there's the "pretty-boy trux" w/all this fancy aftermarket stuff.....that doesn't do anything @ all! I drive a 2015 Taurus w/a trailer hitch 4/a 4"x"6" mesh carry-all (1650 LBS/$600. in Lowe's), good enough 4what I need, cheaper than a trk when I don't always need a trk. (I'm ret. from a NY transit auth. where I've used many types of trux over time).

    FYI, wheel width comes into play here as well as two wheels with the same offset yet one is wider than the other; the wider wheel will poke out more. Case in point is the first wheel was an 8.5" and the second was a 9". The wheel at the same offset would poke an extra 1/4" (or ~6mm) more. So going to a +12 in the 9" wide wheel from a +44 8.5" wheel has about the same poke as an 8.5" would at +6 offset.
    This is why these 20x12 -44 wheels poke out so much; it's not just the negative offset, it's the huge width change too.

    • @cottonhill35
      @cottonhill35 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So going to a 20x10 with a -18mm offset will poke around the same as a 9 inch width and -24mm offset?

    My own personal preference as far as how far tires should stick out: 1” or less past the fenders if there are no flares. If there are fender flares it should also be an 1” or less past the edge of the flares. But hey that’s just me of course :)

    Great visual with the rubbing in the wheel well. I was having a hell of a time understanding why a positive offset would make it rub. It’s not the side of the wheel well closest to the engine you have to worry about, it’s the inside of the fender directly in front and back of the wheel!

    These kinds of things are always going to be highly subjective, and everyone obviously has their own opinion. When I went looking for wheel and tire combination for my 2020 F150, the possibilities were seemingly endless. However, it doesn't take that long to start whittling things down. Style, size, offset, hub bore, price, and availability quickly become factors, and the list of potentials gets quite short. My truck came with stock 20's (275/55R20), with the obligatory +44 factory offset. While there's a lot of options for 20 inch wheels, I was never crazy about that wheel size. I chose the path of less wheel and more tire. The final verdict was Fuel Assault 17 X 8.5, +14mm offset, with Toyo Open Country 3s, LT 285/75R17 load range C tires. The combination of less offset with a wider and taller tire has given my truck the exact look I was hoping for, and the Open Country 3s have performed well in the northeast snow. That being said, anyone who's unfamiliar with these types of things, but looking to change their factory wheels should watch this video, multiple times if necessary. It's very clear cut, informative, and gives a great visualization of exactly how offset will affect the look of your vehicle.

    My current setup on Hilux 2018: 265/60R18 9J ET+12 . New setup would be 265/70R17 8J ET+20. Offset calculators online say that poke would be 20mm less. But if i still have same width of the wheel 265 Wouldnt the wheel sink in less in to the wheel well (20-12 = 8mm). So I'd still have tyre "poking" out just 8mm less than the current setup.

    Remember, width and offset combined are what create poke. Trying to show what changing offset alone does should be done by only changing offset. The three wheels you showed have different widths, 8.5”, 9”, and 10”.

  • @dlg5485
    @dlg5485 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You didn't discuss spacers. I know it's an inferior solution to achieving a more aggressive stance, but A LOT of people use them. I'm not a huge fan of really aggressive poke, but I do find this stuff interesting. Is using spacers safe? Does it harm the vehicle's suspension or hubs? For someone like me who prefers an OEM look but wants a more flush look, I'm wondering if simply using a 1 inch spacer with factory wheels is a reasonable option on a F-150.

    Please let me know what is the backspacing on the Black Rhino York 20X9 with the +12mm Offset? That set up is rad and looks great. Ready to buy that wheel/tire combo. Btw- could I do a +285/60r20 with that wheel set up with no issues? My front end is raised 2.5 inches...

    Great video Justin. Can u do a video on how tire width and wheel width correlate. Meaning how many tire widths can fit on the same wheel size. Want to keep current wheels but want a wider tire .. how wide can I go until it doesn’t fit the wheel anymore.

    Whats the difference between negative offset and wheel spacers???

    • @americantrucks
      @americantrucks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you can use a spacer to achieve negative offset. For instance if you have a wheel with a +15mm offset and add a 25mm spacer your actual offset will now be -10mm. Hope this makes sense? -Justin

      @@americantrucks if I want my tires to poke out a little. Would it be best to use a wheel spacer or have negative offset tires ?? Thank you !

    Had the last set of wheels and tires in video on 2018 Tundra (tons of metal and plastic trimming) - exact set up. Added fender flares to protect body. Nice stance though. Rides pretty different

      Was your Tundra lifted at all? Like a 4” or 6” lift kit?

    Great video!!! I have a F150 2016 Lariat with Camper shell, and I would like make my truck a little more aggressive, I think the second option will be good (+12MM) but my question is If I get that option, I need lift my truck as well??? Thank you for your comments!!!

    First of all, I do appreciate you taking the time to inform your audience of this very important issue amongst us truck owners. Secondly, if I want to maintain my stock wheel on my 23 F-150, how do I achieve the +12 offset (a poke of about 1") with spacers (I assume) ?🤔

      Spacers would be your best bet if you want to keep your factory wheels, for sure! -Zach

    Are the Black Rhino 20x9 wheels shown in the video discontinued? I’m having a hard time finding them on the AT website. Thanks! 6:43

    I have a 06 F150 Fx4 and it already had a set of 255/70x17s with a offset. I was wanting to go with a bigger tire just not sure how much bigger i could go on that rim and it does not have a leveling kit. I was thinking about going back with the 18s that came out on the truck then maybe adding a leveling kit

    can you please discuss spacers? i love my stock wheels but need about 3/8" more... "poke" (thanks for the term!) to clear the fenders at full lock/full compression when loaded. most folks ive spoken with say "#$%#^#$&$ spacers -grouchgrouchgrouch..." i need an adult opinion.

      I had spacers on my old truck man... They're a pain in the ass when it comes to wanting to balance your tires because you have to take them off... No tire shop in the US will balance a vehicle with spacers for liability reasons. When installed correctly, they won't give you a problem, but IMO this factor makes it not worth it... Just pick your desired offset and be done 👍
