    Thank you Ronny. I have been needing a video like this for the last 10 years. I always wanted to make my tires goes out a bit but never new what it is called. Today i learned from your video that it is called offset and today i get to learn all the pros and cons of doing offset. Again. Thank you Ronny for explaining it an easy to understand way.

    Negative offset brings your wheel outward toward the edge, positive offset brings your wheel inward. No off set is centered, Thank you! There was much more that I learned but that was the basic info on which I can build on.

    Thanks Ronny, what a timely video. I'm currently shopping for steel rims, and as I have jmacx's axle, I thought I didn't need an offset. Could not find one a zero offset and some were ridiculously out. ROH were the smallest at 10mm. Now I know why. Two inch wider rim will bring it in 1 inch and rub on something. Cool, now I'm happy to buy them. Thank you.

    You make amazing videos, definitely one of my favorite channels.
    Not to be rude but when you say divide by half, It technically means multiply by 2. Something you can say instead is divide by 2 or take half. You do clarify throughout the video which is good.

      @@speedygonzales9993 I figured that is what the case is.

    • @kelvinelrick807
      @kelvinelrick807 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thatsgangsta2450 When you divide by a fraction, you multiply the number by the fraction's inverse. One half (1/2) becomes two (2/1), which means multiply by 2.
      In your example 100 divided by 50 = 2. That answer was already known.
      And surely, I meant exactly what I said.

    Thanks Ronny. Great video
    Also changing the offset either way has a
    negative impact on steering geometry. Maybe worth the compromise for better stability, but worth thinking about. As well as if you change it and something breaks or bends (think wheel coming off) the vehicle manufacturer will wash their hands of it and you’ll be on your own. They will just say we didn’t test or design the vehicle with those wheels. Can get very bad very quickly if there’s an accident with injury or death. Think ISUZU NPS300 4x4 with wide singles instead of the standard dual rear wheels.

      That logic only applies to new vehicles still under whatever warranty guarantee manufacturer may have provided, which even if no mods of any kind done they always find a reason to deny honoring anyway

    I think another important distinction to make is that you can go less positive or more positive if you currently have a positive offset wheel. Likewise, you can go more or less negative offset if you currently have a negative offset wheel. i.e. my truck came with +45 offset wheels. I was running 35x12.5 tires with no rub. I wanted to up the tire to 37x13.5. I also wanted to increase the rim width from 8" to 9" to better suit the wider tires which also has to be considered in the calculation. I went with a lesser positive offset wheel of +20mm. In my case this was the best balance between rubbing on the upper control link inboard and rubbing on the rear of the fender well outboard. In the end with a little rear fender well trimming I have no rub on the fender at full lock, but I did gain a little rub on the upper link at full lock. This is the compromise I had to except to maximize my tire / wheel combo. If I went to 0mm or negative offset, I could easily clear the upper link, but I would have to do major surgery to the rear of the fender well.

    I recently bought a set of 4, 15 × 7 alloy rims off a guy with a Hilux, for$100. He & another guy said they would fit perfectly on my 2007 Hiace Commuter. I wasn't sure. Bought some decent used tyres this morning from a mates workshop, for $100. Some of the comments say that they will fit perfect. Just gotta borrow my mechanic nephews gear to swap em over & test em out. Yippee. I've seen some other videos that say they'll fit too. I'm keen to try em out.
    Oh, & by the way, have you heard about how good the Buick 3800 V6 is? Some of the Americans say that they are 1 of the Best Engines ever made. I still have my old 96 VS Commodore ute with that Engine. I couldn't sell it because I wasn't sure how long my cheap 07 LWB, mid roof Hiace would last. After 3 or 4 years, It's still going strong with 743.500km on it. It was a Taxi bus in Qld & running on LPG. Legend of a bus! My dog & I are still living in it. It's a Dead Set Champion!

  • @thecarman3693
    @thecarman3693 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. I would also add that if at all possible one should keep the offset of the factory wheel, even if you go wider (by not too much). This will keep your suspension geometry unaltered. If you change your offset either way you should have your suspension readjusted to keep your tires flat to the road, otherwise along with your bearings you'll unevenly wear out your tires as well.

  • @grantkerr2971
    @grantkerr2971 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Thanks Ronny, I think legality is an important consideration. I’m led to believe the maximum negative offset legal in Australia is -25 mm from standard fitment. (For benefit of viewers Eg current model Hilux is +30 therefore max allowed is +5 before one becomes illegal)
    I see vehicles everyday on the road with aftermarket wheels which are running around with illegal offset if the above is true.
    If you have knowledge in this area It would be great if you could share that as well, cheers 👍

  • @JustaPiGuy
    @JustaPiGuy 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Positive offset wheels on the steering axle can increase scrub radius to the point that you can not turn your steering wheel at low speed (or stopped) if your diff is locked. This is because turning the steering wheel causes the outside tire to roll forward, and the inside to roll backward. With a proper offset wheel that minimizes scrub radius, the tire rotates about its own axis, and allows steering while stopped.

    Top explanation Ronny but refer to the 70 series if you decide to use a -55 offset to correct the rear it will mean that you need to run two spares so the track width stays the same on the front. That’s why a wheel spacer works better as you can run the same rim offset front and rear

    • @hansheulu
      @hansheulu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But the original setting of HILUX is that the wheelbase of the front wheel is wider than the wheelbase of the rear wheel~ There should be a reason, right?
      I don't understand why the rear wheelbase is compensated to be the same as the front wheelbase? Are there any advantages?
