      One side note with the snap tarps. If you look at them you will see a t on one side. Takes time but you can slide every snap off flip them around and will allow for a better fit for the seasons. Also if you notice truck hero owns alot of things. From extang, undercover and bak to husky, Are, nfab and rough country of I rememer right.

      First let me say I appreciate what y’all are doing with both AT and AM thank you now my question is I have a 2002 f150 crew I understand it has age on it but it has been really good to me and I’m trying to return the favor but it is hard to find aftermarket parts for her like a good hard top cover do you have any suggestions of how I can get what I need for her?

      Texas Singh I brought a rough country tri fold hard cover and had to send it back because it vibrates/ shakes to much when I’m driving and it was properly installed?...does the flex tonneau shakes or makes noises when installed?

    I had a Undercover hard cover on my F150 for 8 years. It was flawless. Try having a guy or two stand on these covers. The Undercover can hold multiple standing on it. The only downside, as you mentioned, is you need to think in advance if you need to haul something big. I used to take mine off by myself before hauling dirt bikes. It was easy.

    @DylanC828 5 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    Will definitely be getting the trifold over the others. IMO it’s the only one without any real cons, because in my experience if you need the whole bed above the top of the box then your vision through the back window is already gone, and at that point the cover is now protecting your window from something sliding forward and smashing it. Example being loading a quad, I’ve seen many a rear window bite the dust when one crashed into the glass, but the cover would prevent that from happening.

    • @Mixwell1983
      @Mixwell1983 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Didnt really think about it till now but you're right with the visibility part being gone if you have something youre moving sitting taller than the bed rails.

    • @nitrodoc
      @nitrodoc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The con is that you can't see out your back window when you have something in the bed and it's blocking the rear window completely.

      If you're not too limited on your budget then you may want to check out Diamondbackcovers.com, especially if loading/hauling an ATV, a SxS, or other heavy materials on top of your cover. Their HD model holds up to 1600lbs, plus they have two different styles of cab guards or a headache rack for rear window protection. Just about every component comes with a limited lifetime warranty - for the original owner - but the black coating has a 3 year warranty if you choose that option. And the best part...they are crafted and built in the USA!!

    • @johndaddabbo9383
      @johndaddabbo9383 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BIG Con is that the Tri-Fold design is the one design for which you cannot then add a Bed Rack. So a HUGE con for many of us.

    • @atl3630
      @atl3630 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But if something slams into your cover vs. the window, wouldn't it damage the cover? Given the cover is $800, might be better to break the window.

    The Peragon looks to be the best folding option I have seen. Haven’t used one yet but the ease of removal and not blocking your back window makes it a lot more appealing than a Tri-fold and for the same price.

    I've had a Truxedo TruxPort for about 10 years on my Ranger Edge that is held in place with Velcro on both sides of the bed. It is going with my truck when I sell it and still looks good with no tears and works fine. No snaps and the tensioner keeps it tight hot or cold. It has been garaged about 50% of the time. Will be adding one to my new Ranger. No one has ever cut it to look at what I have under it but it keeps items covered and dry when it is needed. Practical and inexpensive for my needs and saves fuel.

    I live in the north in BC Canada. I had a tri fold on my F 150. It was nice for security and keeping things safe and dry. The problem I have and you didn't mention with all of the one the had the rubber part that runs along the top of the box. Mine would freeze and get stuck. I have had 3 out of the 5 styles you talked about over the years. Foe me it's a canapy for where I live in the winter. Good video overall.

    Undercover se is still the king. I have a painted lux version of the SE and loving it still. And I agree with the con for large item. However, the SE is very strong, you can walk over it or even haul an ATV on it. So you can strap down large item over it

    I have a soft tri fold tonneau on my Raptor, I use mine to cut down on the air drag in the bed, and to keep the groceries dry. I don't keep anything in my bed that is going to make a thief happy, unless they like reusable shopping bags. 🤣
    Eventually at some point I want to get a hard shell Leer topper so that I can make it more camper friendly until I find the right pull behind camper. Great reviews though, thanks as always.

    Hey, nice young man, you forgot the problem for those of us in the rain, until just at the end. The only cover that works against water, mildew, dampness; tonneau hard cover. It looks like the barricade may solve the rain issue-but for it’s main limitation of lost usage due to stowage.

    I'm looking to replace my Bak G2 cover since it has started to fall apart and warp. I considering that retractable but its size when closed is a bit of a con. That 4 fold may just be the best option afterall although it is plastic and will most likely fade after a a couple years like my Bak did. Truck is outdoors year around.

  • @Na0uta
    @Na0uta ปีที่แล้ว

    Personally I like the soft roll up covers. They don't show it in the video since it's really similar to the first one. But I don't keep stuff back there, at least not long enough to worry about. And it's pretty out of the way when rolled up. Velcro to put down easy. Bars under it for support of light ish stuff. If you put a plank of wood up there you can hold all kinds of things when tied down.

    With the last cover, all you'll need is a few ratchet straps and you'll be good to go. I've had it on my '15 for 2 year's now and have strapped all types of building material's to it, as well as dressers and it's still solid.
    Only thing he did not mention is that if you have a feature on your truck to where you can pop your tailgate from your keyless entry or from your key fob, the edge of the cover wrap's over the edge of the tailgate, so that'll be a no go.

    The Extang Classic Platinum and similar Black Max where sadly both discontinued. A shame because they were reasonably priced, durable, I had one for 10 years and it was still nice. The best thing was they were 99% water tight unlike many of the very costly products on the market now.

    I just installed the GMC “REV” branded BakFlip Revolver X2 on my 2500HD; snagged it for $866 shipped to my dealer. I definitely don’t expect it to be as strong and certainly not as weather proof as a hard cover (or cap), but it’s a good compromise between accessibility, looks, and ease of use.

    All have there perks and there down sides i've had a cheap soft roller in the past and hate having very little security along with my tailgate didn't lock on my 2011 tacoma at all but don't want the storage in my bed to take a hit either and still want to maintain vizibility. Im planning on buying the Sentry Tonneau cover from Truxedo for my 2018 F150 for best of everything except you loose the ability to open it half way. Just need to get the wife on board and get the price right like the 15-20% sales that come this time of year right after tax season is over.

    The solid cover was great back in the day before locking tailgates because you couldn't open the tailgate but with new locking tailgates the tri-fold and rolling are better for security. The locks on the solid covers are very much for show, just push up and it will pop open. Because they overhang, there is plenty of a lip to get your palm under to push it up...now let's be honest, getting the stuff out of sight is the biggest deal because no criminal is going to go and pop open every cover in a parking lot. The retractable cover is definitely the most secure, that seems like it would be pretty hard to break into, I wanted that but I frequently use the whole bed under my trifold. One nice thing about that is sometime you can open it all the way then let it rest on what you're hauling instead of blocking the back glass. Great video btw, lots of options out there and not a lot of side-by-side comparisons.

      You cannont get the solid cover up on mine at all. Tail gate won't drop if you set the latch height correctly.

      @@therealpimpskillet you don't need to drop the tailgate. You just grab the overhanging lip of the cover with your palm and push up.

    Liked to have seen a water test on each to see which offers best weather protection. Also like to have heard more about security, don’t need a knife if I can walk up and easily roll/slide/push a cover back.

      You can't roll/slide/push these back as they are all locked with the rear tailgate. -Justin

    I personally have the Bakflip F1 trifold tonneau for my 2018 F150 Platinum. Went with this particular one because you can open and close it without opening the tailgate. Hands down the BEST tri fold cover (also FRP).

      Michael Godsey if you can open it without opening the tailgate, doesn’t that mean it’s not secure against thieves?

      The bed rug is soooo gross. The only way I’d ever get one is if I had a cap or something that completely made sure water couldn’t get in

    Question, I see a lot of 5'5" or 5'7", I measured the from back window to end of door (5'10"). Do I need a cover top that is 5'10 or does the 5'7" work if I want to make sure my stuff is secured when I lock the door?
