    Great vid. But to you watching.
    DON'T ever have them walk on slippery mats etc. Their legs are not built to move in any circular *way*

    this has helped me so much. I work at a animal shelter, specifically with the small animals, I had no idea how to introduce rabbits till I saw this video and took some notes that have worked, people always come in to adopt rabbits but they want them to bond with their rabbits. You are a life saver. I now learned how to do rabbit meet and greets and can give the adopters some advice sense I'm not gonna always be there to help them.

    excellent! when the rabbits are bonded it is well worth the work. After fighting to the death, literally, they now are kissing and are very cute and happy. It took me 4 months. Rabbits are slow in getting new habits. So naturally bonding is a slow process...

    This video is very good but I personally think you missed out an important step, they should live next to each other (in separate hutches/cages) for a week to get should to their scents. Also if possible swapping them into each others hutches or at least changing over used litter trays. This will may help with them feel less territorial and then start the process showed in this video. It also is less stress for the rabbits as they won't be complete strangers when you start meeting them together. Hope this helps anyone with their bonding, GOOD LUCK!

Because when i first started bonding them i knew some stuff to look out for but it wasnt really helpful and i split them up to quickly. I’ve got two males, one that’s nine weeks old, one five months. They’re both under two pounds. The five month old is that close (1.9 lbs) and the nine week old is literally (0.9) I’m worried they’re both too young to get neutered, but I was hoping to get a friend for the older one. The younger one seems to have a problem hopping, relating to his back legs, which the shelter didn’t tell me about before they gave him to me to foster. 😳🙄 (The other one is a foster as well). I had both meet in a neutral territory, and it seemed to go off just fine. When I moved them both back to their nearby sanctuary I set up, the older one immediately began jumping the younger one. I swear, for every argument about rabbit care, there’s another argument disproving the first argument. Being worried about the younger one’s leg strength, and the fact that they were not neutered when I got them, I separated them 😫 because I was worried about what the older one could do. If they aren’t neutered, will it be much harder for them to bond? Can they still live in the same house if they aren’t bonded?

    • @BobbyHobby10
      @BobbyHobby10 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      W P Male rabbit will be hard to bond when not neutered. The 5 month old rabbit it’s ready but the nine week it’s too young. Male rabbits have horrible fights and will try to castrate each other when both are sexuall matured, the kit it’s still a baby and haven’t reached it yet.
      Better wait until both are neutered and try to bond them then, so the kit will get stronger and there’s no change for him getting more hurt.

    I recently adopted a rabbit (he is currently 7 weeks old) we are considering adopting one of his brothers who is from the same litter (not sure if that's the right term regarding rabbits). We are planning on getting our current male neutered as soon as he is old enough, along with his brother if we adopt him. Im curious what your opinions are, would it be okay to put them together as soon as we get his brother? They have been separated for about 2 weeks, or would it be better to wait until they can be neutered before introduced back to eachother? Thank you!

    Don’t know if anyone still reads this! Just need some things clearing up!
    My partner is a rabbit lover! We have 2 Netherlands dwarf rabbits, 1 male and 1 female (wasn’t planned) they are around 4 months old, not spayed or neutered.
    We have been offered the chance to get more rabbits, same bread, same parents.
    They will be 8 weeks when we pick them up.
    We were planning to get a male and a female again, so that both homes have 2 so they aren’t lonely. Is this a good idea?
    For the bonding process, we won’t start it for 2 weeks till they are 10 weeks.
    But overall, can I get advice on this please?

I guess my question is how do you transfer both rabbits into the bathtub together without allowing running around? One of my rabbits is very keen on nipping the other which would make it difficult to put them side by side.

    I'm currently bonding a male that I've had since for a year and half and a female that I adopted three days ago. They immediately lay/flop near or on each other in the bathtub, and groom in territorial spaces. The problem is that she is extremely stubborn and queenly that she wants all the grooming to be done by him and never wants to return it to him unless I use banana on his head. I don't want to do this too often for several reasons. On the other hand, he grooms her on his own whether she asks or not. The one time out of many when he doesn't feel like doing it, she always nips and then chases him, which easily turns into a fight. The same happens with mounting; he's very submissive and takes the mounting from her until I force her off after about 10 seconds, but she goes into absolute Murder Mode as soon as he tries to mount from the back, but she takes it from the front, but I don't like to let it happen from the front.
    Very frustrating, ah...if only she wasn't so demanding, then it wouldn't be such an ordeal. I also can't leave them in their pens side by side unattended because one of them randomly jumps out, and I don't want either of them jumping into each other's pens and fight while I'm not there. The first two nights alone, that didn't happen, but once I started falling asleep near them, I suddenly heard a thump and she was just magically out of her pen getting ready to challenge him. Both their pens are at least 4½ to 5½ ft tall, yet they still jump out without anything to climb. I just never see them actually do it. For now, I just keep them in separate rooms while I'm not with them so that there won't be a fight whether one jumps out or not. Can't take any chances.

    Brilliant we put ous together on neutral territory last night and let them do whatever they want, our rabbit started chasing and nipping the new male, so we split them we tried it again later and he mounted her so we split them up so hopefully we haven't done too much damage already and we'll try stage 1 in the bath tub tonight!

    • @becka6579
      @becka6579 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I allowed too much on the first day too, it'll be ok. Just keep in mind that humping/mounting is their way of deciding who's dominant, or the leader, and they need to go through this process. I allow humping for 5-7 seconds (long enough that the submissive rabbit agrees and they both get the point, but not so long that it gets annoyed and fights back). Also stop them if they're going for the face as the bottom bunny might try to bite it's genitals. I just brought a new rabbit home a few days ago and my problem is that neither is very dominant so they're having a hard time establishing a pecking order. What I've been doing if they start nipping too much or fighting is to put them in a laundry basket which stresses them out and then huddle together, that way when I separate them they don't remember leaving on a bad note with each other (as she said in the video, you don't want to separate them when they show that kind of behaviour because they'll remember being mad at each other).

    Hi! I do not currently own a bunny, but I am looking at 2 that do not come from the same place, and most likely my home will be new to them both. Would this make it easier? P.S, neither are spayed. I liked the bit about adoption, but, not everyone can do it. I can't because I cannot have a house check; it stresses my other pets, specifically our cats, when a strange human comes into the house. It also stresses out the dog. Therefore, better idea not to have a house check, which is required by most shelters. So, I'm forced to get them off of Craigslist. Do you think that despite the fact that they are both unspayed, they could be bonded? I plan to spay them *after* bonding, so i can take care of them correctly afterward without worrying about them fighting *and* tearing their stitches. One is a mini lop that is 9 months old, the other i am not sure of the breed but appears to be small(maybe mini rex) and is 4 months.

    What if you are breeding your rabbits and you want to bond them then you can't nuder/spay them since you need them to be bred. I have two female new Zealand Flemish giant cross rabbits and they have been side by side for the past 9 months but I got one before the other and the one I got first is more dominant since they have fought once before when I let them run around the yard. and I do not think a dust pan would work since they are 15 lbs each so they are pretty big. Please tell me whatever you think I should do.

    I have had my first rabbit for a year, the year mark was on Saturday, he’s a lion head mix named Harlo and I wasn’t trying to get him fixed at first because he wasn’t aggressive at all and we have a very close bond and he’s very sweet so I didn’t really think it was necessary for that reason and because I’m one of the few people who have rabbits where I live. My mom suprised me and got me another rabbit on Monday, he is a French lop mix named Max, he is very sweet and gentle but Harlo gets very hormonal around Max and humps him (they’ve only been introduced a few times but I’ve not allowed them to be face to face anymore) and it’s not dominance humping it’s he wants to mate humping because he also honks and circles Max and gets frustrated because he can’t mate with him. I’ve made an appointment for Harlo to get fixed on the 4th of May at my local vet but do I need to fix Max too? Max is nice towards Harlo and submissive but is it necessary to neuter him too? It’s not really ideal for me to have to spend extra money to neuter both if it’s not necessary :/

    • @sandaturcanu8217
      @sandaturcanu8217 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is recommended that both rabbits be neutered, as it will downsize their dominating and mating behaviour and because it helps them leave longer and be more relaxed. Even though you said that it is subbmisive, in time he may develop typical teritorial behaviour and he will be more stressed because he will be hormonal all the time.

    if anyone sees this and knows the answer; how can i separate my bunnies before they've been bonded? is it safe to just put an x pen between them, or will they be able to fight through it?

    When I was bonding mine, I would recommend a spray bottle filled with water more than a towel or something. Just spray them once or twice and they'll stop since they hate it so much. DO NOT SOAK THEM :)

    I have 2 pairs of male and female bonded rabbits, and I'm planning to introduce both pairs to each other. However, I'm not sure if it would be better to introduce everyone at once, or to introduce each bun separately, because one of my pairs is a lot bigger and older than the other pair. Any ideas? Thanks!

    I have to male rabbits, ( funny bunny, & chestnut). They were best buds, cleaning each other, eating together, etc. one night, they were laying side by side, and then I put them to bed. In the morning, I let them out of their cage and gave them love. And they started fighting, out of the blue. So, I got chestnut fixed. They still fight. I am getting funny bunny fixed ASAP. What do I do if they are still fighting afterwards? Please help...

      Da Bean Of Da City BunBun809 this is quite late, but are they together now or still fighting? sometimes it can be the small things. such as they hear something outside that you do not and it stressed one out or maybe something small that is stressing one or the other out that doesn’t stress you. hope all goes/is well.

    Quick Question- I have 2 bonded rabbits, 1 is a dwarf and 1 is a Velvet rabbit and both get along great about a year old. I brought a new baby into the mix and she is 8 weeks and a lop eared.
    My Dwarf doesn't mind her at all but my Velvet rabbit tries to attack her every chance she gets. She tries to grab her by the back of the neck. We monitor them very closely and try to prevent any fighting. The dwarf and velvet are housed together and the lop is housed separately so they are only together running loose at night with supervision. However if the baby goes into the large cage, my dwarf gets very upset so we are looking at getting another cage to house all 3 when the time is right.
    Do you feel that the techniques in this video will help with bonding my overly aggressive velvet rabbit? I dont want to hurt my rabbits and i dont want my rabbits to be afraid of one another.. any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

    I have 2 pairs of bunnies who I want to bond together. I now have them in two separate pens beside each other, and they are now much more comfortable with each other. I tried the bathtub before, but two of my rabbits are acrobats and are very good at simply jumping out of there lol. Is there an alternative to the bathtub I could use?

    • @thebunnyshed1official
      @thebunnyshed1official  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there are lots of alternatives. You could setup up a playpen in a neutral space, an old indoor rabbit cage or You could just place the rabbits on the floor in a small room.

    I have two rabbits that aren’t neutered. They’re both young and their cages share a wall so they can touch noses and see each other. One of them is very curious and sweet and the other one is pretty aggressive and always tries biting or scratching the other. It’s only been a couple days. Is this normal behavior and do I have to wait until they’re both neutered to let them meet in a neutral space?

    HI, have you ever bonded 2 male rabbits? Im trying this now with little to no progress. they tolerate each other through a gate which they can see and smell and even kiss through, but once face to face they fight right away. One 10 minute car ride so far was ok but the aggressive rabbit was kind of sick afterwards and stressed out for a couple of hours.

    If you could help me that would be appreciated. I have been trying my hardest to get my lionhead female (neutered) and Netherland dwarf male (neutered) to bond with each other for a few months now, and nothing is improving. They both constantly fight each other and never mount each other, and bite hard. No serious damage has happened yet. Sometimes the male flops as far as he can away from her, then gets angry and bites her away when she just walks past. I would think about getting a new female, but my mum is refusing to if this one doesn't work. If you could help me, I'd rly appreciate it. I just don't want my male to be shoved outside alone if I can help it.

      In this case i would obviously go for a same sec pair. or better if you have any rescues near you they often spay and castrate rabbits as a routine procedure. May be worth looking at that. If not then it could work but i personally wouldnt do it. I have an uncastrated male living with my other buns all of whom are snipped. Hes a little more hormonal and winds them up. I have seen successfull bonds between unneutered females so that would be my prefered choice. Ofcourse it depends on your current rabbit and if he/she is chilled

      +Thebunnyshed1 no no you don't separate the rabbits when they fighting for territory if so they may bond with each other but not you .That is not a good idea please do not attempt no separate rabbits when fighting. p.s this bonding lesson worked to well for my rabbits she won't leave him alone my female rabbit. keeps doing my male she will bite his fur to mount him how do I stop her from humping him. please respond asap this I and we're getting my male fixed in week when he is fixed will she still jump him. again please answer asap.
