    I think the biggest mistakes w new rabbit owners is they try to interact w them like a cat or dog... picking them up unnecessarily or forcing them to do stuff. This only annoys or frighten them more or leave em at home for hours on end w no human interactions. Poor diet can also effect their overall heath & mood. Which is a no no.

      "Let HIM come to YOU"
      "Don't climb inside the cage."
      "Don't block him off"
      "PLEASE DON'T TAKE THE HIDEY HOUSE OUT THE CAGE!!"
      Poor thing is scared of the kid and can't even hide.

    My bunny is a partial free roamer. She sleeps in her cage which is large and she loves it. Her area is in our bedroom so we are always with her and she feels apart of our sleep habits. And she can always hear us. She LOVES to hear us talk and to talk to her. Yes she feels like it’s her safe space but from the beginning I have always made my presence known that it’s my space too. She has a play pen and is allowed to free roam in a room and she gets to be herself. Laying on the floor and letting then check you out is what worked best for us.

    My bunny considers herself the house's alpha. In bunny terms, that means she's the one that demands attention. I can be in charge of anything else, she doesn't care. But when Cola Bunny wants pets, she gets pets. If I poke in on her while she's napping, however, she will come to me to see if everything's ok. And she will groom shirts and blankets as proxies for me. Every now and again, she'll even wander around behind me and groom the back of my head. She gives and receives affection purely on her terms. Would I prefer if she was more of a cuddler or lap bunny? Sure. Would I change anything about her? Nope.

    Speaking of free roaming your bunnies, I live in a 2 story house with lots of rooms and other family members. 100% free roam is out of the question but whenever I'm home I leave her cage open to come and go and she pleases and I give her access to the hallway, bathroom, and hobby room. I'm making my current situation work to the best of my ability until I'm able to move out. If anyone has experience with a free roam rabbit in a larger house please let me know how it's going :) I would love to free roam my bunny one day.

      I live in a 10 bedroom house with my family and my aunt uncle and cousins! I have 2 bunnies and they are in an x pen when I'm not home but I just free roam them in the one room when I am. you don't need to give your bunny the whole house, I would definitely loose them if I did 😅

      Bunnies do have a vision stright forward but it’s like four meters in fron of the bunny. They don’t see you when you’re close up. That’s what I’ve leart anyway...:/

    • @LiveforHM
      @LiveforHM 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Prey animals have eyes on the side of their head to better watch their surroundings. Predators like humans, other primates, eagles have forward facing eyes to give us binocular vision with depth perception to focus on hunting prey.

    • @rathmiron
      @rathmiron 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, pretty much all prey animals with side-facing eyes have a blindspot just in front of them, but it's not really that inconvienent. It's true that they wouldn't be able to see a predator up close, but if a predator got that close, they would be chanceless to escape anyway, so whether they saw the predator or not doesn't matter anymore.

    Lorelei - You are such an incredible advocate for our long-eared babies! When I started 3yrs ago, bonding during car rides definitely worked for my bunny and me. And at home I used to sit next to him barefooted and that always made him curious and he would become very playful; thus, binkies would ensue (since our feet carry our intense scent). I still do this, every night, for a few minutes while I'm winding down. He loves it!

      Black White I do the same thing! My male bunny loves smelling my feet/shoes and my boyfriend's, he'll even lick our feet or rub his head on them to 'scent' us all the same, like a pack! It's the cutest thing 😊

    My bunny is in an exercise pen while I'm at work, and gets out to play when I'm home. I know she would love to be free roam, but it just isn't safe for her to be. I have a dog that loves her very much, but no matter how good he is with her, I woud never leave them unattended together. He's 50 pounds and she's 4. That just isn't safe unsupervised. I'm also an artist, and the thought of her getting into something she shouldn't is also scary. So she gets to hop around for hours when I get home, and then sleeps in her pen. Her pen is in my room, so we are still roommates 😊 she loves being out, and loves going back too.

    Thank you Lennon and Lorelei for teaching me so much about rabbits! I got a bunny when I was about 9 and she was extremely aggressive but it was so obvious she had so much anxiety from her small cage, not being spayed or anything. I have no idea why my parents or I didn't do any research. I regret it so much. We took her back to the pet store cause she would attack my face. I hope she's now in a good home with people who properly care for her. She should be 7-8 now cause we got her as a baby. From doing so much research on animals it's made so much of a difference on how animals are with me. My baby Jinxie is such an amazing cat. I have him with my boyfriend even though we don't live together but we are together a lot. He lives with him the love they have is amazing I connected with him overtime and he now follows me around and cuddles with me. I love him too much! I never knew I could feel so much love from an animal.

    Although it has nothing to do with the video itself - Lorelei, you're always so beautiful in your on-camera moments!! Is there any chance you will consider making a makeup/hair tutorial? I love how you keep it so simple yet make it so on point all the time!
    And as usually, great great video!! From experience I can vouche that you can bond with an "aggressive" bunny! My 4.5-year-old standard chinchilla bunny was very terrified of any contact for a very long time and would show fearful behaviours to me. It took me months of work but now she is the most loving and sweet bunny there is! She has her limits and I am mindful to respect them, but they're a part of who she is so I don't mind it.
    Know your rabbit, learn how to read them and give them a chance, even if it takes a while. You will win a great companion in them!

    I had to put my rabbit down last week. So heartbroken. She was the most loving, loyal and well behaved bunny I've ever come across. She used to sit with me for hours letting me stroke her, she'd kiss me non stop, follow me round, only do her "toilet business" in her cage, loved when people were round because she'd be the centre of attention. She was amazing. Your videos have helped me get through this last week. I didn't realise just how much she was apart of my life.

    Hi Lorelei and Lennon!! I was wondering if you can do a video on how you first introduced Lennon on being a free roam bunny! I'm trying to figure out the best way to introduce my bunny to free roam. I work the majority of the day, and he stays in a play pen. I let him out in the morning, and all evening, but he goes in his pen while I sleep. I want him to be free roam, but I don't know the best way to introduce him to it and trust him to not make messes.

      Madi Matthews she has a video "How My Rabbit Became Free Roam" - My bunny is 100% free roam and even though he's potty trained and the house is bunny-proofed, there are still the occasional accidents...that just comes with the territory. I do spray vinegar in areas that might be tempting for him (near our wooden kitchen table) and this has worked wonders. Good luck!
