    This movie was the perfect mixture between wonderful CGI and awesome set pieces, just unique

    I really thought it was like 90% CGI like it is for The Hobbit.. But know I realized they built a good part of what we see on screen and the balls of fire and all...I guess that explains also why it won oscars and the hobbit won nothing.

    • @AudieHolland
      @AudieHolland 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Same here. Can't believe how much of what we see on screen was actors, extras and physical effects. Especially those close combat scenes look almost as good as in the film. Often they just added the background. And Minas Tirith is such a convincing set.

  • @IanLetarte

    This is why Lotr is better than the hobbit. The armies had tonnes of extras in 2003, yet only 12 people + CGI were used to create the five armies in the Hobbit... 12!!!!

    Forget the movies, even these making-of videos make us believe that Middle Earth and the battles were real. I would never tire of anything to do with LOTR, Made in the perfect age when CGI was necessary to do fantastic things, but not over-reliant since they were not fine-tuned and abundantly used as they are now. Bless you film wizards!

    Hm. Beside the VERY FEW wide shots you really thought that there were thousands of man or it was all CGI?
    Few hundred only. In 90% of the shots you don't need more than 50 man.
    Btw I know a movie that was shot with 6000 man and 6000 horses for a battle scene. That's real.
    In lotr movies you only see 2-3 hundred at best when they did the wide shots. Then they did the miracle with CG.
    Btw it had a lot of CG. I was shocked by that how many of you were amazed by that they used some extras.
    In fact lotr uses quite a few extras. There are tons of movies using way more extras. If that's what you compare.
    And is this the first behind the scenes video you see? O.o
    You haven't seen any studio sets before?
    What if I say JP2 was 90% shot in a studio without a single green screen.
    That's a real movie.
    The most impressive one is Interstaller. It has like 15 secs of CG in it. Everything else was real.
