Uploading this so somebody can enlighten me - this was not in the books at all, amiright? This "necromancer" aka Sauron, fighting ghosts etc... It's just a reference for LOTR, right? (well, alost - loved how saruman fought. I expected Gandalf the White to fight like him as well, but... he became a spotlight.
It’s not in the books, not even the appendices as the other charlatan who commented implies. However, due to Tolkien’s looseness with details, it COULD have happened. The film is taking obvious liberties, but it isn’t exactly defying canon.
@@jamiegreyy And, don't know if you know this, but he couldn't fly to New Zealand at the time either so they went to him in England and set up a green screen. He did all his scenes in green screen going back to An Unexpected Journey like that while anything like this type of action they had to use a double. Anything Lee could do without moving much he could do. 😊 Still perfectly agree! He was and always is a legend! One of the best actors ever. 🙏 Christopher Lee 🙏
@@ayakotami3318 I did know this! It was in that behind the scenes documentary 😊 pretty damn amazing of him. His love and dedication to not just Tolkiens work, but art & literature in general was admirable. Christopher Lee 🙏🏼
I'm so glad Christopher Lee got to do these scenes. To show that Sarumon was not always evil, in fact, he was a badass. He was simply corrupt by the time of Lord of the Rings.
Later in the Hobbit you will see Saruman was already corrupted (at the time of Dol Guldur), he failed to drive out Sauron as he promised (end of this scene is clipped out)
At this time, Saruman was already corrupted, he wasn't already a servant of Sauron, but he wanted to find the One Ring for himself, and use in his mind, use his power to destroy Sauron and rule the Middle Earth because, like Sauron, he thought that the mortals were too much chaotic and stupid to rule themselves When Gandalf warnend the council for the first time about Sauron presence, Saruman stopped the council to intervene, that because he thought that if Sauron was keep in peace, the One Ring would have manifested by himself to rejoin with his master, and then, Saruman would have done his move and take the ring for himself Said that, Saruman was never evil from the beginning, he was a Maiar that originally believed in his mission, but at a certain point, let his pride and arrogance permit the darkness to corrupt his mind, and he became like Sauron in the intentions to rule the world like a God
I think they tried to make this the moment he realized he couldn’t beat Sauron. That’s what made Gandalf the superior Istar, he thought around the problem, rather than simply face it head on.
He has been planning for a very long time, his plans just parallel Saurons, it was suggested that having Isengard was part of his plan, so he has been corrupted at least before he was the master of Isengard.
Don't want to meet sauramon in a dark alley with that staff!!! The Holy staff of banishing undead!!! Plus his dexterity in this scene is a wonder!!! How'd that old man do that????
The best part about this whole scene is that it shows who Galadriel is in every single way. She’s unimaginably powerful, but wise enough to know that no matter how powerful she is she will always need help. A lesson so many of us could learn.
I also like the difference in how Saruman and Elrond defeat the ringwraiths. Saruman, like Gandalf and Sauron, is a Maia - an angel. The Maiar are immortal beings that exist outside the world, and incarnate into it. At the dawn of time they sung reality into existence alongside the gods themselves. They cannot be harmed, only banished or bound. They possess world-shaping magic. Of course he can easily overpower the Nazgul - ghosts of mortal men, borrowing a fraction of Sauron's power. But how does Elrond, an unaging but ultimately still mortal being, defeat them? Simply by being a better warrior.
she was a princess of the Noldor, granddaughter of Finwe born before the sun and moon rose and lived in the light of the two trees. she's pretty much a bad ass if she so desires.
It comes to mind, that Elrond Halfelf most likely fought The Nine at the end of the Second Age, maybe even killed few. And now seeing a long dead and long cursed Enemy... Well, badass nonetheless
Her characterization is so well done here it's insane. No idle boasting. She means every word she says. Almost like every word holds power in itself. She is powerful but doesn't pretend to be all powerful and above help. She is a leader who inspires confidence in others to take action and to be the best they can possibly be. There is a sense of earned confidence that Cate Blanchett portrays so well. Even at her most powerful. She is depicted to be emotionally complex. Not over confident and stand offish. The green goblin or change in Galadriel's appearance is showing that she is actually mentally heading in the direction of Sauron at this point in her history. Her own appearance starts to warp and her beauty fades while mocking Sauron for succumbing to the same fate. She is basically projecting and also trying to confront her own insecurities about the path she is taking. Galadriel can't just manifest her power like it's a toy. It takes a physical and emotional toll on her. She literally collapses as if to prepare to enter into a trance to allow her to repel Sauron. And she can only due this due to having faith in the people around her. There are so many layers here. Peter Jackson did something in a 5 minute scene that entire movies barely achieve. The hobbit movies had issues but it mainly came from bloat. There was still a lot of good.
she is after all a child of Valinor, of the lineage of Finarfin. She could have petitioned to return to Valinor after the First Age, but chose to remain with Celeborn. One she got that ring, it was the ultimate power up.
Youre right on the money - words themselves actually do hold special magical power. It's literally a battle of wills. When she says those things to Sauron, she isn't just insulting him, she's speaking those statements into reality itself. For example, the words "you have no power here" literally prevents Sauron from overpowering her. It literally stops or weakens his power in that moment. The same thing happens with the Balrog in Fellowship. Gandalf is magically commanding the balrog not to step forward, but because the Balrog is equally powerful, Gandalf doesn't just outright win on the bridge. This reflects back to Tolkiens love of language and how he wrote the story - and it's magic system - around the languages he invented and language itself.
Which I'm assuming he got the idea from the Bible as God spoke reality into existence. God said let there be light and it was so. There's definitely some otherworldly inspiration to these stories because the layers are so deep it's beyond most men's imaginations. Jmo tho lol
@@madmaxxx69 Which is why we ALWAYS see some emblem of the light when the heroes are uttering words of power. They aren't relying on their own power to drive out the darkness; they are acting as servants of the Secret Fire, the Flame Imperishable, that being the will of Eru Himself. They were saying, in essence "I am speaking, and *I* may be merely your equal or even your lesser; but the power of these words are born from the One immeasurably more powerful than you, and reality itself will listen."
And the time he used that line, he was being slammed in his throne via his puppet king and then flew violently from his palantir. an epic fail indeed...
I never know what she says after that....it sounds like its SUPPOSED to be "servant of mordor" but she pronounces mordor funny. Sounds like there's a G in there. Like servant of morgor
Cate Blanchett was the perfect choice for Galadriel. She is beautiful, as Elves Are described and her voice is so magicial and powerful! I just love her!

@@drappointment4509 Look up Ghost Touched Weapon in Dungeons and Dragons. The Ghost Touched enchantment is a significant enchantment specifically designed to allow you to hit incorporeal beings as if they were physical.
@Dr Appointment Saruman is a Maiar, which is a type of angel, so of course he has enough magical capabilities to destroy anything (material or immaterial). Galadriel is literally the most powerful elf of all, and Elrond is incredibly powerful, too, and they all have magical capabilities to hurt what are basically ghosts. Their weapons are probably magical in nature, too.
You can really see and hear the pain in Sauron whenever Galadriel is mentioning his old names/nicknames/aliases in mockery of his past evil deeds. Like the servant of Morgoth (mockery of being a slave of the first Dark Lor) Nameless (mockery of changing and blaspheming his ancient divine name), Faceless (mockery of his beautiful image), and formless (in mockery of staining his beautiful image). Then finally, banishing him back to the void from whence he came (a mockery of choosing Morgoth's side over his kin).
@@leonsilver6946 That's why they said servant. And Sauron is corrupted, his mind is twisted, his perceptions changed. He cannot turn away from evil anymore.
Sauron (and all Maiar) are shapeshifters, although after being destroyed by Eru in the destruction of Numenor he could not longer take any fair forms, and lacking the ring he lacked the ability to take any physical form at all. Galadriel is definitely mocking him for these reasons.
Sauron only served out of fear, and if Sauron refused to serve Morgoth, then Morgoth would have eradicated him with ease. So yeah... pretty much no free will involved whatosever. @@leonsilver6946
She is one of the first elves and despite the power of Sauron, compared to what she has seen of Morgoth, Sauron probably feels like a toddler hitting you with a lollipop.
I wasn't a huge fan of the Hobbit trilogy. But this scene is crafted beautifully, respectfully, and lovingly. And additionally Cate Blanchett was such a good choice for Galadriel. And she is freakin gorgeous
I think that this scene is the prime example of how bad and disrespectful these movies are: Bad CGI, made up and nonsensical conflict, terrible one liners who belong to some F&F movie (you should have stayed death), characters who are there because WB demanded it and a trilogy who have stayed as just two fun adventure movies with nothing to do with Sauron or the White Council
I like to think she said it as an insult to him. Morgoth had been the original dark lord, the creator of dragons, balrogs, and other dark and terrible things. And Sauron has been his Lieutenant and right hand man, but still he had a servant to the first dark lord. I think she was reminding him that in comparison to the power of Morgoth, that Sauron was still nothing more than a cheap imitation.
The line is well-delivered, but out of order for this novel (and movie) since not even Námo is able to return life to anything ‑ only Ilúvatar can or does. And DEFINITELY not Melkor.

@@StephenPitter He studied Sauron and began to respect his power instead of pursuing his destruction. And that's the thing about power in Tolkien: it blinds you. That's why he thought that, with the one ring, he could surpass Sauron. He had no intention of serve him, he was constantly looking for the ring on his own, and that's why he had his own army of orcs.
@@StephenPitter Was he though? If I remember correctly, both Saruman (don't remember his Maia name) and Sauron (Mairon) were the Maia of Aule, and were very similar in character and strength. Valar didn't send Istari to outright destroy (or banish since Maia don't die) Sauron, but to guide mortals to do it themselves, which means that Saruman had that restriction on top, and resentment caused by that and many other factors piling up is what caused him to turn. At the end, his envy would definitely make him try to overthrow Sauron, and probably fail yes, but if he's not restricted by the Valar, it's definitely a close fight for Sauron against any Maia, and I wouldn't say that Sauron was his superior in every way, that's just not true for the Maia, they are designed to be close to each other in power, in order to balance the powers of Valar. And lastly, he wasn't chosen as the leader of Istar for no reason. Also chosen to defend elfs against Morgoth when they awakened. The fact is that he's been Valar's top choice multiple times.

Tolkien never gave a blow-by-blow account of the battle, but the White Council did fight the Necromancer in Dol Guldur at the same time Bilbo was on his journey. This confrontation is referenced in “The Hobbit,” “Unfinished Tales,” and “The Lord of the Rings, Appendix B.”

@@jzckwh1160 That is very up to debate. You could find in the LotR quiet some lines which suggest other. At first he is not even sure if he could truly defeat a servant of Sauron (Angmar), when Denethor mocks him him if he was allready defeated. And also: - when Gandalf says none who enters Barad-Dur would return (and that he only spied in Dol Guldur, but hardly made it out) - when Frodo is at Mount Doom and the text says this is the centre of Sauron's might, the strongest in Middle Earth (and even his elven-glass shines weak)
Bear in mind, this is when Sauron and his Nazgul are all at their WEAKEST, and the White Council had the Great Rings with them, and they STILL barely held off the Dark Lord and his servants. This is why everyone knew that Sauron regaining the Ring would guarantee his victory; he would be unstoppable if he got it back, as he'd had the last 3000 years to restore his body and gather his armies. He didn't even NEED the Ring to win.
Same thoughts, which kinda makes isildur (basing from LOTR movies) a big deal cause he managed to take the ring off by cutting off sauron's finger. I was just wondering how a mere man could do that when elves and wizards are having a hard time fending sauron off in his weakest state and without his ring.
@@mariannecaranto619 A discrepancy between the movies and the books. In the books, Sauron was still not fully recovered from the Sinking of Numenor, and thus didn't face the Last Alliance until he had no choice. And even then he tussled with the combined might of Elendil, Gil-Galad, Isildur, and Elrond and successfully killed the two strongest of their party before he was himself defeated. Only after Sauron's defeat did Isildur cut the Ring off Sauron's hand, which caused Sauron to abandon his body entirely. Despite not being at his full strength even then, Sauron still took on four of the strongest warriors of the time at once and killed the two strongest of them before his own power gave out.
Read the comments about her that I’m posting or the replies I’m giving to other comments. Don’t underestimate her. Even Tolkien stated to not do that and anyone that’s speaking ill of her or showing distrust of her says more about them then it does about her.
The Peter Jackson movies are masterpieces but they do Isildur some injustice. In the books, while he later ‘succumbs’, he spends his time being a fair ruler who practically gave power away to the people instead of being power hungry. He comes to realize that he is not powerful enough to truly bend the ring to his will. That it will eventually overcome him. Isildur resolves to give the ring to Elrond but is killed on the way to Rivendel. It's a tragic story of a man that tries to right his wrong but ultimately fails. In the books isildur literally repented and was about to bring the ring to Rivendell and apologize as he recognized it was beyond him even for a great numenorean connected to the faithful line of the mighty Elendil I preface the prologue & war, other depictions I LOVE, captured the themes WELL, the vibe of the whole trilogy! The significance of the duel between Elendil & Sauron was Nerffed; (He wasn’t some random old bloke in armour getting smacked around) This man was MIGHTY and gleaming with power which you’ll find out in the great videos you’ll soon react to with joy! * He and Gil-Galad; last true Elven King battled Sauron and slayed Sauron’s physical body and both died in the process. GilGalad was held high by the face for all free peoples to see as he then incinerated his bodily form to a crisp of ash! Isildur was part of the fight too but not as prominently and he just comes up to the body to cut the ring finger off and…. So one example is how easily Sauron is killed in the intro. * He's set up as this super powered badass, but all you have to do is cut off his finger? That's not how it went down in the book, where the greatest man-king and the greatest elven-king had to double-team Sauron to strike down his body, but were killed in the effort (Isildur then cuts the ring from the corpse). Especially for elves the title of king has many meanings & by the Third Age there isn’t a population large enough to even attempt to such a thing as creating a unified kingdom which would put a target on their backs, let alone many of them are beyond all of that anyway as it’s seen as doing more harm than anything good. * They also seen what happened when the elves fell upon the swords of their own hubris and passion no matter if it was for the right reasons some of the time. That it always ended up in some sort of tragedy which sometimes even damaged the earth itself. They had long known about what’s called the Long Defeat as ever since Morgoth’s marring of the land itself; pouring his remnants into it that caused the “magic” to slowly drain away from the land itself which is sad because for ages several clans of elves were born there. even the greatest ancestors were “born” in middle earth awakening to the stars ! Many of who are left have accepted the next phase of their life which is to become councillors, healers and loremasters to those within the heart to listen and the desire to learn. But above all the guardians and custodians of several things and the world itself for as long as they can remain!❤ The elves “exist” as long as the world does. And Tolkien made it obvious in many ways that it’s our world as he restored Anglo Saxon culture/Mythologies and folklore, and their languages too alongside Irish, Welsh and Finnish mythologies too. I absolutely love when the Nazgul shades appear and Galadriel breathes ragged. Once an ancient Elven royal begins to feel fear, you know it's getting real.
Then the last king of gondor faced these beings fearlessly by himself when even a immortal felt the fear by herself not diminishing but damn these ringwraith put the fear of god into immortals says some about the last king of gondor facing them on weather top

@@blackouthorus1519 We don't actually know that she was afraid. More likely, as the bearer of the last natural light of Earendil and the Three Silmarils left in Middle-Earth, she was being drained the most by the Darkness present in the Nazgul and the Necromancer. It's worth noting that canonically Narya (Gandalf's ring) was the only one of the Three Elven Rings that was much for offensive use, as both Nenya (Galadriel's ring) and Vilya (Elrond's ring) were both much more defensive. (Though even then, technically as Narya was originally Cirdan's ring, it was also used to create the Grey Havens.)
Also, because it touches on something real: Spiritual authority of Jesus Christ to cast out darkness... It's like getting to watch what would otherwise be unseen in real life. Anytime a story touches on an actual spiritual reality its all the more impacting, intended or not.
Saruman could not have been better portrayed by anyone. Sir Christopher Lee’s voice is so frightening at times. He made me scared when I was younger just as Saruman frightened me when I read the books.
meaturama Connery was offered the role of Gandalf and would have done a great job as him but his voice was always warm and charming whereas Lee had a very intimidating voice hence, why he’s best known for playing villians and monsters (Dracula).
I love how Peter Jackson tied in Gandalf’s absences in the book to make it so that it connected so elegantly to the beginning of what would become Frodo’s journey to Mordor.
Isn’t Gandalf’s absence in the book just random? Like he’s like “Well, this is as far as I can go with you guys, but I have other stuff to do that’s more important. Bye now! Stay on the path!” Isn’t that pretty much how it goes?
That wasn't Jackson...that was Tolkien himself that clarified Gandalf left them at the edges of Mirkwood at that point to go check out the threat (that he wasn't sure what it was at the time) in southern Mirkwood. (Note: LOTR reference...not in the Hobbit...but definitely Tolkien). He even mentioned that Saruman (before he changed sides) Elrond & Galadriel were involved but it's been a ling time since i read the reference I forget the details... But it was definitely Tolkien not a Jackson adlib.
They play wizards like fighters with magical weapons. It is quite amazing plus a few spells. Still, my favorite types of wizards are usually in games like D&D or heroes of might and magic.
Super old comment, but, if you want some truly "Canon" lotr magic, check out the "battle" between Sauron and Finrod Felagund. There's good renditions on YT here, I'm sure you'll find it interesting as a "type" of magic battle, especially when you also know about how Tolkien imagined the shaping of the world in the song of the Valar.
Cannonically, he was already pretty far gone at this point. He kept the white council from acting against the shadow in Mirkwood for decades so he could have a better chance at finding the ring for himself.
few non-TOlkien nerds know that Saruman in his Maia name of Curumo, served under Aule with Mairon (Sauron) before the betrayal by Melkor. Serving the craftsman of the Valar is how both became geniuses in their tech and forging.. Saruman showed all his knowledge and expertise in turning Isengard into the giant mechanical powerhouse it became before the march on Helm's Deep.
Even if it was a bit cartoony, what a tremendous last scene for Galadriel. I am confident that no one is dumb enough to try to reimagine such a fantastic character.
I like the fact they remember that Saruman was once on the side of man/dwarf/elf. He wasn’t corrupted by Sauron’s power until the time between the battle of the five armies and the fellowship of the ring. Nice to see Saruman as a good guy.
I always believed this was the exact event that made him question himself. he saw what the enemy was capable of and that there was no way out. so might as well change sides
Saruman was already against them even before this point. The evidence is right there. Look at how he tries to stop the quest to The Lonely Mountain. Look at how dismissive he is when Gandalf reveals the Morgul Blade to him. A dagger, I remind you, that was burried in a tomb deep underground. Even Elrond was shocked to see it, saying that powerfull enchantments(or whatever they are) had been cast on the tombs to leep them from being opened. Even though Gandalf had no evidence that the blade came from the tomb, Saruman should have considered sending a party to investigate it.
Galadriel didn't trust Saruman from the moment he was sent to middle earth, remember that both Sauron and Saruman were apprentices of Aule along with Faenor, Galadriel sensed something dark within Saruman and wanted Mithrandir to be leader of the white council but he turned it down on account of his humility.
I used to work at a movie theatre and when this came out I would sneak into each theatre it was in and watch just this part. Multiple times a day, I had the timing down too I loved it
I mean, as rough as the Hobbit trilogy was, this scene is just orders of magnitude better than anything portrayed in Rings of Power. To diminish Galadriel so thoroughly from the powerful elf queen she was... to reduce her to a she-ninja who becomes the love interest of every nearest powerful male character (including her son-in-law). Glad I watched this. I had forgotten the greatness of things that once were.
They did Galadriel SO dirty in ROP. The only redeeming factors of that show are the Sauron & Celebrimbor scenes. Charlie Vickers really nails it as Sauron.
I don’t even think The Hobbit was “rough”. It just wasn’t as good as the LOTR trilogy. But yeah Rings of Power was worse than either by a substantial margin.
I know the hobbit was not that great, but I love knowing that Christopher Lee playing has the White Wizard in an epic fight for good, kicking ass in one of his last scenes before passing away, kinda warms my heart... Goodbye ye old nazi hunter, ww veteran, and amazing actor! May this scene be a reminder of your epicness!
What I love about LOTR is the subtlety of magic. It never was in your face, theatrical huge displays of power. The elder elves, Saruman, Gandalf, and Sauron wielded immense power, but never displayed it overtly, except when absolutely needed and in different forms. Gandalf with his pipe weed and light shows or speaking in tongues with animals, Galadriel in keeping Lothlorien untouched and guarded and Sauron to bend minds and corrupt men.
@@jacobsantana915 Nice strawman there. Ofcourse Rings of Power is that, but so is this nonsense from The Hobbit. It was a 1, at most 2 movie plot that was cashgrabbed to a trilogy, losing all sense in the process.
That's all fine and dandy but I just had a thought... what if Sauron was trying to apologize to Galadriel here and make peace? He apologizes for his Nazgul's and orcs and promises Galadriel and company that he will punish them? However, since Sauron doesn't speak English, and nobody can hear him because Galadriel's voice is too loud, he just never got the chance?
Actually, I kind of hate it. Not all of it, but everything they've done with Galadriel. She should have no darkness in her. That scene in the LotR was a vision of a what if future, nothing more
Just noticed that when Sauron appears and the Nazgul rise around him, they rose as if they were dead, and then he 'awakes' them again in a very eerie way, as the heroes 'defeated' them logically. Such details make this scene so awesome!
So many years ago, so many marathons, I still have chills with this scene. Yes, this scene was but a line in a short paragraph of The Hobbit, but PJ was spot on in the production. One children's book masterfully transformed in a trilogy. Imagine what Peter could have done with Rings Of Power...
He was there when morgoth first laid siege to the ainur. He knows the "first dark lord" was coming back he wanted the one ring to be able to match the powers of an ainur and become more powerful to stop the evil. Think of illidain from warcraft but alot more people die.
This scene just displayed how powerful galadriel is. The fighting: Saruman's hair flowing luminously in the air and Elrond's armour and are just breathtaking......
If anyone is wondering what Sauron is saying to Galadriel while she is trying to banish him, starting at “you have no power here” while there are no ways to fully translate it as it’s uncertain what form of black speech it is cause there were several forms, if we take it as pure black speech, some words you get are “no sorcery” “coward” “city besieged by army” and “almighty” now if you try and piece this together, one of my first thoughts was that he is trying to scare and insult her by stating that no sorcery can protect her from him, that she is a coward and her city will be besieged and destroyed by him for he is almighty, though you could make it mean other things such as when he besieged and destroyed the Kingdom of Eregion, that her sorcery could not protect her, she was a coward for running from the city, and that he besieged and destroyed the city for he is all powerful, but it’s all on interpretation at that point as we don’t fully know anyway, hope you guys enjoy that bit of knowledge!
Watching this on cinema is a goosebumps moment for me. One of the best and memorable scene on the trilogy. The sound effect is so good and the fighthing scene is so badass
@@soul6733 it was lore breaking, which is never good, it also made Sauron look much weaker than he was, Galadriel shouldn't have been able to defeat him alone And yes Galadriel beating him was fan service because she was a pretty popular character, but on the other hand they sent Gandalf out if the picture even though much more people like him more than they do Galadriel. All in all it completely downplayed the main villain, broke the lore and didn't even leave Gandalf in the picture
The Hobbit trilogy was very good, problem was it had to compete with LOTR success. I wish they could have switched the order in which both trilogies were released and people would have been more graceful towards The Hobbit

Plus, anyway, Tolkien never wrote things to be settled by a binary scale of power. It is all about symbolisms, circumstances etc. Thus Eowyn killing the King of Angmar while not half as strong as him ; thus Melkor fleeing from Ungoliant etc etc. So whatever your fantasy...
I like how they added the detail that you can hear Sauron begin to strain towards the end. Like he starts out confident and tauntingly revives the Nazgûl. But when Galadriel reveals herself in wrath, he realizes that he cannot take the full might of a Noldor, head of the Istari, and the son of Earendil.
Yet in the end, they send hobbits to destroy the ring when supposedly all the need is a pissed off Galadriel? Wonderful Hollywood but to those who read the books, stupid.
@@DonLoco3 At this point, Sauron truely couldn't win against Galadriel, he was too weak for that. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have needed to hide there in the first place. Talk about an extreme round of flyting (Historical context, flyting was a Scandinavian, and then Medieval English and Scottish deal in which two guys, usually poets, would throw insults at each other. Essentially a Medieval rap battle without the beat)
Galadriel has a power that is hard to imagine, much less comprehend the magnitude of. I got chills throughout my entire body when she was facing the nine and sauron by herself. She launched him half way across middle earth. I knew she was mysterious, and scary during the LOTR, but this power is terrifying. I’m just glad she’s on our side.
This scene is the most powerful moment in the entire series. Also for those saying that this isn't in the book. It's not, well, it's not played out. However it is mentioned in the book by Gandalf toward the end. He said that "they" had gone to confront the evil rising in Dol Guldor. So basically Peter Jackson was just showing the basic idea of what had happened at that time.
She's on the edge of going evil herself. She was born in Elf heaven, with all the power of an angel that implies, and unlike the Wizards she's kind of loopholed herself into being allowed on Middle-Earth. Banishing Sauron with such a blunt display can be considered crossing a moral line, so she herself looks like a specter due to the whole 'evil makes you ill' thing.
I almost teared up because he becomes evil after this causing him to destroy his own life. Also he died shortly after this movie which is emotional. That motherf*cker was a badass in life. And as a vet myself he has my respect 10000%.

Not to mention she learned EVERYTHING the Valar would teach her, and even more from Melian in Doriath. Tolkien said that her power is such it would take Sauron going to Lothlorien in a physical body to be able to defeat her.
Sauron also defeated Galadriel's brother so her anger towards him can be understandable since her brother is one of the most loved elf who ever lived. Heck he gave his life to save Elrond's great-great grandparents
Hugo has stated he’s done with Middle Earth and being Elrond. I’m completely okay with that cause this fight was the ultimate cherry on top! “You should’ve stayed dead!” 👏👌
It is worth noting that all the immortals on this scene(Radagast,Gandalf,Saruman,Galadriel,Elrond and even Sauron) have seen Morgoth or felt his might during their lifetime in the first age and five of them namely Gandalf,Radagast,Saruman,Galadriel and even Sauron himself must've have already seen the beauty of the Silmarils and behold the light of the two trees. In the Lord of the Rings books, The Return of the King, in appendix A it says " In the late summer of that year (2941) Gandalf had at last prevailed upon Saurman and the White Council to attack Dol Guldur and Sauron retreated and went to Mordor". Also in appendix B in the timeline section it says " The White Council meets; Saurman agrees to an attack on Dol Guldur since he now wishes to prevent Sauron from searching the river. Sauron having made plans abandons Dol Guldur." In the last chapter of the Silmarillion titled Of the rings of power and the third age: it also talks about this in more detail but seems to state that it was Saurman not Galadriel who drove Sauron from Dol Guldur because he was the most powerful of the wizards (which are Maiar) and more powerful then elves and he had studied the ring lore and it's power more then anyone. indeed it states that in the end he saw Sauron more as a rival and envied him more than hated his works. : I encourage all fans of Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit to get the Silmarillion and read it! It gives you SO much information about Tolkien's universe.
He also didn't like that Gandalf was suggested to be in charge of the party by Galadriel. He never forgot about it. Perhaps, pride and the quest to conquer middle Earth for himself led to his downfall.
@@grahamwillis585 I LOVE that first chapter The Music of the Ainur. Such beautiful writing. I like the other parts too but that first chapter is a particular favorite.
@@DaviORSeki Yes the elves always liked Mithrandir best. There was jealousy there in Saurman and also he came to believe that only great power could defeat the power of Sauron. But see the Valar sent the wizards to Middle Earth not to defeat Sauron but to rally and motivate the peoples living there to do this. So it was in the end Gandalf that most closely carried out the will of the Valar which is why he became the White Wizard in the end.
Izzuz Otsoga Can we really simply say he was a bad guy or a traitor? Technically, yes, but the first time he and Gandalf fought he told him that he just didn't see any other option than to side with Sauron. He basically chose to save himself over others. Most people would probably do the same. It was only such a bad thing because it was totally uncharacteristic of a wizard of any ranking to do something like that. But at the end of this scene I think he was talking about going after Sauron to finish him off, and the others didn't think it was necessary. So maybe it was just that since he'd already fought with them to defeat him once while they had the chance, he just didn't even think it was possible the second time around.

How many times I have to let a sink into my house last one leaked everywhere
I'm so glad Christopher Lee got to do these scenes. To show that Sarumon was not always evil, in fact, he was a badass. He was simply corrupt by the time of Lord of the Rings.
Later in the Hobbit you will see Saruman was already corrupted (at the time of Dol Guldur), he failed to drive out Sauron as he promised (end of this scene is clipped out)
At this time, Saruman was already corrupted, he wasn't already a servant of Sauron, but he wanted to find the One Ring for himself, and use in his mind, use his power to destroy Sauron and rule the Middle Earth because, like Sauron, he thought that the mortals were too much chaotic and stupid to rule themselves
When Gandalf warnend the council for the first time about Sauron presence, Saruman stopped the council to intervene, that because he thought that if Sauron was keep in peace, the One Ring would have manifested by himself to rejoin with his master, and then, Saruman would have done his move and take the ring for himself
Said that, Saruman was never evil from the beginning, he was a Maiar that originally believed in his mission, but at a certain point, let his pride and arrogance permit the darkness to corrupt his mind, and he became like Sauron in the intentions to rule the world like a God
You can tell he is looking at Sauron in awe like he wants to talk to him. He even tries to do a little wave at his celeb crush
“You should have stayed dead” I love the way Hugo delivers that line.

The best part about this whole scene is that it shows who Galadriel is in every single way. She’s unimaginably powerful, but wise enough to know that no matter how powerful she is she will always need help. A lesson so many of us could learn.
I think it was already planned that Lady Galadriel will need the assistance with the 2 member of White council.

The fact is that he's been Valar's top choice multiple times.

wow, good eye! Now THAT makes sense! At first I thought it was the power of Nenya, her ring. But yes, this makes sense, she would not have used it here, not openly. It would have revealed itself to Sauron, and he would have tripled efforts to assail Lorien..if he had the strength.
I feel like she threw down some hard insults... calling him a servant and not even acknowledging his name. XD !!!!
damn. harsh.
Yes, morgoth bauglir's servant
Names have power in the Middle Earth. That's how she denies his.
She's the most powerful female-elf in Middle Earth
Damn gandalf got nerfed tbh when he arrived in middle earth, he was stronger than sauron.
@@jzckwh1160 That is very up to debate. You could find in the LotR quiet some lines which suggest other. At first he is not even sure if he could truly defeat a servant of Sauron (Angmar), when Denethor mocks him him if he was allready defeated. And also:
- when Gandalf says none who enters Barad-Dur would return (and that he only spied in Dol Guldur, but hardly made it out)
- when Frodo is at Mount Doom and the text says this is the centre of Sauron's might, the strongest in Middle Earth (and even his elven-glass shines weak)
In the books isildur literally repented and was about to bring the ring to Rivendell and apologize as he recognized it was beyond him even for a great numenorean connected to the faithful line of the mighty Elendil
I preface the prologue & war, other depictions I LOVE, captured the themes WELL, the vibe of the whole trilogy!
Especially Norwegian(of which I am)
This is what Amazon didn’t deliver (AKA the actual story which inspired everything we love into existence with games and movies and books and so forth. Skyrim, elder scrolls, oblivion, Diablo, and world of Warcraft and D&D. And Game Of Thrones was hugely inspired by Tolkien… yet as the godfather of everything and the heart of what caused many peoples lives to be saved cannot get the justice it deserves for adaptations?

I like this type of magic. There are no fireballs, novas, meteors, or anything. Yet, I can feel that they are truly powerful.
They play wizards like fighters with magical weapons. It is quite amazing plus a few spells. Still, my favorite types of wizards are usually in games like D&D or heroes of might and magic.
Less is, in most cases, always more. They also do a half decent job of showing these characters' power potential.
There are lightnings(gandalf), tornadoes (Uinen) though
Only reason they are not common, as you know, maiar are ordered to hold back.
They? Younmean Saruman as well or are you talking about a single person? 🤡

Saruman, before being broken by the corruption. He was a badass
Cannonically, he was already pretty far gone at this point. He kept the white council from acting against the shadow in Mirkwood for decades so he could have a better chance at finding the ring for himself.
@@philipdillon83 true but in the films Sir Christopher Lee himself stated that Saruman hadn’t yet been corrupted at this point in time.

Amazon decided to take on your challenge and succeeded in creating a dumpster fire character impersonating Galadriel.
I dont think he was necessarily "corrupted" but figured he should choose what he thought was the winning side
Can I just thank you for this comment. Because I wanted people to know this but could never have put it so perfectly

@@DonLoco3 At this point, Sauron truely couldn't win against Galadriel, he was too weak for that. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have needed to hide there in the first place. This Galadriel is a trillion times better than Amazon's Galadriel
Amazon's Rings of Power series is an absolute disaster and they literally made the character of Galadriel to be an absolute joke. Such a shame for a billion dollar production.
Even Sauron was a joke...like what even the fuck is Halbrand.... in the Books it's meant to be Annatar Lord of Gifts@@rh9133

This galadriel is third age galadriel and therefore still wouldn't be Galadriel from the 1st/2nd age as depicted in RoP. So yes third age galadriel is obviously always going to be better.
Omg yes! They did Galadriel bad!

Could someone translate Sauron’s black speech when Galadriel is banishing him?! What is he saying??
NVM I found it!!
Galadriel: “You have no power here!”
Sauron: “I have all the power!”
Galadriel: “Servant of Morgoth!”
Sauron: “I Serve No One!”
Galadriel: “You are nameless!”
Sauron: “I am eternal!”
Galadriel: “Faceless!”
Sauron: “I am the be all!”
Galadriel: “Formless”
Sauron: “And End All!”
Galadriel: ''Go back to the void from whence you came!!''
Sauron: ''AAAHHHHHH'
You, dear internet stranger, are a legend. May I inquire about the source?
@@maesemoon5955 I have never heard or found anyone who has been able to translate this back and forth that Sauron had with galadriel. I kinda want this dialogue to be true, but im really doubtful.
Talk about an extreme round of flyting
(Historical context, flyting was a Scandinavian, and then Medieval English and Scottish deal in which two guys, usually poets, would throw insults at each other. Essentially a Medieval rap battle without the beat)
Sounds pretty much like an exorcism.
I love Sauron’s response to “you have no power here!” “Nuh-uh that’s not true I have ALL the power!”
Thank you, was a bit confused

@@HarryTariq yeh, apparently. Tbh, I had just found out myself
Does that mean Arwen is Galadriel's grand daughter?
Galadriel is more creepy than sauron
Actually True
She's on the edge of going evil herself. She was born in Elf heaven, with all the power of an angel that implies, and unlike the Wizards she's kind of loopholed herself into being allowed on Middle-Earth. Banishing Sauron with such a blunt display can be considered crossing a moral line, so she herself looks like a specter due to the whole 'evil makes you ill' thing.
Yep

She’s the daughter of Finarfin, and is one of the High Elves of the West who lived among the 2 Trees of Valinor before they were destroyed. That ranks her amongst the most powerful of Elves.
Not to mention she learned EVERYTHING the Valar would teach her, and even more from Melian in Doriath. Tolkien said that her power is such it would take Sauron going to Lothlorien in a physical body to be able to defeat her.
@@aurinrakkun8589 and even then it would be very tough for him
Sauron also defeated Galadriel's brother so her anger towards him can be understandable since her brother is one of the most loved elf who ever lived. Heck he gave his life to save Elrond's great-great grandparents
@@kimcarreon590 her brother came back to life in the first age tho, finrod felagund was just too good to stay in the halls of mandos for too long

There's no doubt that these powerful beings have an eventful life during the course of their lifetime.
goldeneagle 95, Sauron did see the Silmarils. They were embedded in his master’s crown.
@@evilsharkey8954 i think galadriel and elrond too. They both survivor of kinslaying. Galadriel at doriath and saw the silmaril there, and elrond at sirion where his mother kept that jewel
@@litejimin5066 If I recall correctly, Elrond wasn't there at Kinslaying? He is half man - half elf, and humans weren't awake when Kinslaying happened. Elrond was born in Middle-Earth to Ëarendil and Elwig to the end of the First Age.
@@patrikjech70 there are 3 kinslaying at that time. First at alqualonde where feanoe demand ships from teleri to cross great Sea. Second at doriath, where king dior ((son of beren (human) and luthien (sindar princess, daughter of king elu thingol)) wore one of the silmaril, and doriath destroyed by the armies of feanorians. the only royal family who survived is elwing. She and her people escaped to mouth sirion and married earendil (prince of gondolin and he's human) and had 2 sons :elrond and elros. Soon, maedhros and maglor sacked that city to take the silmaril (third kinslaying and more brutal) But elwing thrown herself to the cliff with the silmaril and escaped, abandoned her two sons.
Its great book ain't it love the start were it talks about the creation of everything through song and the Discord of Melkor.
Why are y'all spelling it Saurman for some reason?
Saruman is fighting like a shaolin master..... too bad he ended being a bad guy...
Izzuz Otsoga Cheers.
Saruman The White cheers Saruman😂🍻
leave sauron to me....
Izzuz Otsoga He "died" like a bitch in the shire tho
It's all the little things in this scene that blows my mind. Like Sarumon hitting one and in the same swing reposition hit it back.
So basically a Maiar, a powerful Noldor Elf and the son of the Dragonslayer fighting an evil Maiar?
How fantastic!
