We say “Eu estou a estar muito ( neste momento). Eu estou aprendendo/ fumando- 🚬 ( smoking) is the Brazilian variation. We don’t use the gerund form in that way. Gerund form: Speaking ( Falando), estudando. Remember A + verb in the infinite form. The gerund form is a bit complicated for beginner, also intermediate students. I can just tell you what I know as a native speaker. By the way, my name is José. Nice to meet you. Harry, I might help you. My native language isn’t as complicate as you think. If you live in Portugal 🇵🇹, ask my compatriots to speak to you slowly or use simple language. We tend to speak fast like everyone one else. I had the same problem when I went to London. I studied English at school for 10 years, and I wasn’t able to understand any British person. My English became better over time. Say to my compatriots to stop speaking English or other languages to you. If you want yo learn my mother tongue, talk to us in Portuguese. Start with the basics, but please begin talking in your target language. Ninguém nasce sabendo. No- one was born to know everything

There are some topics that are not clear enough to me and maybe not to others, and I wish these would be interesting stopping topics for you as well to want to clarify them for us.
este esta isto vr esse essa isso
why isso mesmo and not isto mesmo?
mesmo itself has so many confusing interpretations
And the last issue is the verb to take to bring
It's really hard to know when to use
    trazer levar ir buscar pegar
I wish you would find these interesting points to address.
    Thank you

Mesmo is a filter word like indeed. Isto- this/ isso that. As a Portuguese native speaker ,is hard to explain words like “ Pois “ mesmo” Já etc. Every language has those little words to emphasise the meaning of a sentence. Those verbs have several meanings. The verb “levar” has two meanings ,on the top of my head, levar - to wear ( a piece of cloth), my name José ( leva acento no é) put the accent in the letter é= José. There are other meanings. Levar dinheiro no bolso - To have money on you ( on the pocket). Trazer means to bring. Traz-me a mala 💼 João- bring the bag to me, João . Buscar- to pick up. Fui buscar a minha mãe ao aeroporto. I picked up my mother to the airport. Another verb with multiple meanings is “ Apanhar”.

Why did you use “à” in the example at 03:41 rather than the word de. Or at 02:40 where you used “à” to mean for. Or the use of à at 02:34
So what does à actually mean. Can’t seem to find anything online describing it. I’ve only learnt it to mean a(to) + a(the) = à.

I never hear people saying 'Posso ter um gelado?' making a request using the verb ter - to - have. We usually use the verb ter- to have to express: possession, physical characteristics, psychological characteristics, age and existence. But not having in the sense of having a drink, or an ice cream.
'Podemos ter um cão?' would make more sense to me, as we are speaking about possession. (have a dog to keep)

    • @learneuropeanportuguese
      @learneuropeanportuguese  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Olá! You can definitely use "poder ter" for requests. My parents had a café in Caldas da Rainha and I grew up serving costumers and helping my parents all the time.
Just like you use it at home, you can use it at a café, store, restaurant.
If a child wants an ice cream at home and asks his mom he will say: Mãe, posso ter um gelado?
If a costumer wants a coffee at a a café (and especially if he's a regular) he might say: Posso ter um cafezinho, Sr. João?
Hope this helps! It might be less common in the Algarve, but in the Lisbon area we use it quite often.
