Thank you, doctor, for this information. I have type 2 diabetes, and I am frustrated that I did not understand this situation until now. I ride my stationary bike five times a week and use dumbbell weights three to four times weekly to promote muscle growth. I was unaware of how the body obtains energy. Once the glucose is depleted, you explained it very well. Thanks again!

This happens to me when Indo crossfit. Does that mean I’m taken out of my fasted state?

Very interesting question on that. Technically if you're still not eating you're fasting, but metabolically yes your body would switch to burning the glucose for fuel because when you do high intensity moves in Crossfit, the glucose is a faster fuel source and required for the fast movements. I'd listen to your body, if you still feel good and perform well in your workout, you're probably fine. If you feel gassed like you should be able to do more than you can, I'd consider some carb/protein before you workout and see if that helps...I know it did for me!

How long does the temporary spike last? I exercise in the morning, then do blood test like 30 min after, so... I have hypothyroidism, but not hashimoto.. and we can so easily slip into IR, even with very clean nutrtition (such as just a bit more veggies or fruit..)

Mine usually doesn't last longer than 15-20 minutes following exercise, usually I see a pretty steep decline as my muscles are soaking up that glucose from the blood, but everyone's results would be different. Thanks for watching!

What about if you're a carnivore? I only eat steak, butter, sometimes eggs

Your body can turn amino acids and fat into glucose if needed. I'd suspect you'd still see some level of a spike during high intensity exercise.
