Ruby is not careless. She is passionate here because she was betrayed, not because she is impulsive. Sapphire is the one inside Sugilite telling her "yeah, you can keep destroying things. I've sort of glanced into the future and it's cool"
Sapphire does play a part in the fusion like for example Sugilite can be cold about the feelings of others and due to Sapphires reluctance to unfuse because of her love of fusion.

In Here comes a thought, shes impulsive and chases off the butterfly instead of sticking with Sapphire, in Jailbreak, she mindlessly runs to find Sapphire without worrying about getting caught, yelling for her which could’ve easily alerted Jasper of Peridot, and in the episode where she proposes to Sapphire, she impulsively becomes a cowboy for most of the episode
future vision does come from sapphire that's why in the episode jail break when ruby is trying to find sapphire she closes her eyes and says "i cant see" because there used to having future vision but without being fused ruby doesn't have access to it its also believed sapphirs works a bit different like garnet sees multiple possible futures and sapphire only sees one

I think Sapphires future vision works the same as Garnet’s, remember how in Hit the Diamond Sapphire says “I saw that this was a possibility, though I am surprised this is the path we’re taking” and in The Answer Ruby pushing Sapphire out the way and fusing with her evaded her future vision, plus afterwards she says “This is not what I saw” to blue

I don't know if it was answered or not but since Sapphires are like aristocrat gems directly served by Rubys
Ii don't think they're made to use weapon.and that's why Garnet's weapon is Ruby's and take other powers from Sapphire like Future vision
@@sanji_joestar I was also wondering about Sapphire when it comes to her defense. I know sapphire has some connection with ice since there are moments where we saw sapphire bend ice. But when it comes to garnet however, we don’t see garnet use sapphire’s ability at all which makes me a bit confused.

Like in the episode where Opal fuses for the first time, they come back home and we can see that Garnet had just been in a super hot place (I assume volcanic) but otherwise I think this is the extent of Ruby's heat ability and Sapphire's ice ability.
TLDR; Basically Garnet can withstand extreme temperatures

I understand what you're saying with the ruby and sapphire thing. But if you think about it from their perspective, they have literally raised this boy since he was a baby. They know the ins and outs of this boy's personality. Every time Garnett tells Steven she loves him, that's ruby and sapphire telling him they love him. Steven and by extension us as the audience would like an introduction, but there's no reason for Ruby and Sapphire to think they would need to introduce themselves.

I dunno, I think that’s a retrospective way of looking at ruby and sapphire’s presentation on screen. Steven is the audience surrogate so everything we learn about the world is through his eyes. I remember it took me a long time for me to become invested in ruby and sapphire as characters because Steven doesn’t even get to know them really. merely saying “well they’re garnet anyway” is a copout; garnet is her own distinct character with the time given to get to know her, and that’s the kinda focus we needed for Steven to learn about her individual components too.
one thing i really like about that episode with garnet unfusing is the fact that they showed 2 types of anger: the very vocalized/showy/expressive/outbursting anger through ruby & the internalized/apathetic/cold/gritting your teeth anger through sapphire.
there's technically a 3rd, and that would be steven: the kind that ends up getting redirected towards oneself, so it turns into shame and self-blame.
That third kind is absolutely not going to come back to haunt the crystal gems in like 2-3 years. Like no way ;)
i wanna mention that even though ruby and sapphire were upset, they still humored steven and tried to do things with him. ruby got in the pool. sapphire recommended a tv station to watch together.
You know I saw that Onion episode when it first aired and a bunch of other times from re-watching the series, and watching reactions. I've only just now realized that the mouse in Onion's mouth was probably the same one he seemed to 'feed' to the snake. Which makes that last scene essentially his weird way of letting Steven know the mouse was ok.

Something really important about Sapphire! Sapphire’s Future Vision is the most accurate when she’s unfused. The minute Ruby re-fuses with her, her future vision becomes really cloudy and less reliable due to Ruby’s spontaneous nature. It’s just like a real relationship where when you’re single you can plan things ahead to work ideally for you, but the minute you’re in a relationship you’ve gotta be ready for curveballs, like if you make plans but then your partner gets sick and you have to cancel them. So basically the more parties that Sapphire is fused with, the less reliable her Vision becomes. That’s why you’ll only ever see Sapphire or Garnet relying on Future Vision, and won’t see it’s use in the fusions of Sugilite, Sardonyx, or Alexandrite.
I’ve heard theories about this, and while they don’t have much weight, I think its interesting. Remember how Sugilite had that “I don’t care” kinda attitude? The theory is that personality comes primarily from Sapphire-who in the Keystone Motel episode said how in past arguments with Ruby she’d only look ahead to the future and won’t really care about how Ruby felt in the moment. Sapphire even said herself how she’d usually wait for Ruby to burn herself out, before coming back to her and saying she was right all along, and it’s a mentality that Sapphire formed eventually just expecting things to go her way. So this theory is to suggest that Amethyst’s low self-esteem and Ruby’s temper more or less exaggerated that mentality of Sapphire’s, and why Sugilite refused to listen to Pearl. Again though, since fusions are an amalgamation of 2 or more gems it could be Ruby or Amethyst instead of Sapphire that made Sugilite to be that defiant too.
Ruby gets clumped with amethyst a lot, but they are very different. Ruby is not defiant. She is actually the most loyal and caring of the three parts of Sugilite. People seem to confuse her *passion* with recklessness and carelessness.
Amethyst is passionate, reckless and careless. Ruby is the one that managed to *not* spill the beans to steven of who she was even while freaking out and being captured.
The one that's more often reckless in her overconfidence is Sapphire. Ruby just trust Sapphire and is therefore free to be break stuff up when the other voice is her head is the very reckless Amethyst.

SU takes place in what's _basically_ the U.S, it's just sort of an alternate timeline/universe sort of thing (from what i recall, Keystone is supposed to be Pennsylvania, for example)
The state they live in is called Delmarva, based on the Delmarva peninsula (where Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia all meet), which I'm pretty sure is where Rebecca Sugar grew up.
And about Keystone, Pennsylvania in real life has the nickname "The Keystone State"

Im so happy you can see the little details in the background and how characters are exploring themselves and their feelings. Its one of the best aspects of the show and deserves to be analyzed. I also know you will be down for all the fun twists and turns and emotional roller coasters that are to come.
I enjoy the 2 episodes at a time bc it allows each episode to have a longer segment in the video and allows us to hear more of ur input

Steven getting upset with Ruby and Sapphire in E12 works really well because when people you love are fighting with one another, you can only stand by and try to help for so long. Eventually you might just get fed up and that's okay. It's not on you to be their therapist. You can only help so much. In the end, their problems are theirs and they are the only ones that can solve them (outside of a professional ofc)

Regarding how Sapphire and Ruby fuse so well - real sapphires and rubies are made of the same mineral compound Corundum. The difference in color is due to trace elements. Rubies are red corundum due to chromium and that is the only difference between the gems. Sapphires are famously blue but can actually be anything other than red. An orange/pink-orange sapphire is the rarest kind and they have a special name - padparadscha
9:22 Yes, on the Jailbreak episode, Ruby tried to use future vision and was completely irritated that she couldn't (since they were separated). You can even hear her say "Quiet! I can't see-".

For real, when Keystone Motel came out it was one of my favorites, especially since it was quite a while since I saw Ruby and Sapphire.

iirc, sapphire doesn't have a weapon. Not all gems have weapons, but she had future vision and this will be explored more in Garnet's backstory
Remember when Steven released Ruby in "Jailbreak" and she was desperate to find Sapphire, she said "Quiet! I can't see!" because now she couldn't tap into Sapphire's Future Vision power.
This isn't a spoiler, because this isn't spelled out in canon, but apparently Sapphire is essentially a mobile probability supercomputer, who "predicts" things by quickly analyzing a gazillion scenarios based on a few known facts. It's also speculated that's why she has cryogenic powers to keep her "circuits" cool, and uses levitation to get rid of excess heat sucked out by her cryogenic power and converted to energy. However, if she's at rest and not calculating, her cryogenics begin to suck the heat out of her surroundings.
When the episode was first shown, some trolled a real-life Keystone Motel by posting bogus reviews on Yelp complaining of frozen toilets and an empty pool.
This episode unfortunately also demonstrates the lack of concern Gems like Ruby have for human property and damage to them done through their actions. Funny thing, Rebecca Sugar reportedly identifies herself with Ruby, while she thinks of her partner Ian Jones-Quartey as more like Sapphire.
Amethyst being made on earth and having an extroverted nature, has no problem meshing with human society, something Pearl and Garnet, being Homeworld Gems, can't really get into.
Funny fact: Vidalia is the place of where onions grow! (Hence the family trend of onions)

Insane that you pieced together Onion's whole family tree before it was even explained, just from a few context clues-I've seen people who didn't put everything together even after the explanation lmao.
My theory about Sapphire's weapon is a brass knuckle..
Fusion weapons take the two original weapon and combine them together like the spear and the whip making a bow.
Apply the same rule for Garnet, Ruby weapon covers the wrist so the other half must cover the fist. When combined you get the full hand area aka Garnet's gauntlet
Lapis Lazuli also doesn't have a weapon, but doesn't need one, obviously. Future Vision & Hydrokinesis are weapons enough
Basically, about Ruby’s gauntlet. Ruby’s weapon is a gauntlet, but Sapphire doesn’t have one, which for spoiler reasons I won’t explain why but, Garnet’s Gauntlets are from ruby, its the fact that she creates TWO of her weapon while as Garnet. And yeah, Amethyst and Pearl can dual-wield too, so it’s not a Garnet/Fusion exclusive ability.
This is such a dumb thing, but I have a friend who casually watched an episode here and there but we have this tradition where we pick out weird cartoon episodes to watch while drunk😂 That last Onion one is hilarious, anytime we bring someone new into the group we do a drunk watch party with that episode. It's just so weird😂

In real life, Pennsylvania is called The Keystone State, but in SU it's just called Keystone. There's a few other examples of this in the show like Florida being Florida Island, New York being Empire CIty, New Jersey just being Jersey, among others
And they live in the state of Delmarva. In their universe, the US only has 39 states.

I don't think sapphire has a weapon. I believe her weapon is her future vision. If you remember though, gems can make more of their weapons at once. So garnet can just make 2 gauntlets. If she did have a weapon, you would think the gauntlets would look different since we know fusion weapons also combine.

Not all gems have weapons, also probably self evident, but not all gems will have the same weapons too, example being not all Amethysts will have a whip like ours. Sapphire's "weapon" is future vision, which all Sapphire's do.

Your commentary is what I'm here for, so while I would like to see 3 episodes per video because I'm impatient to see you get to certain plot points, the extra commentary is nice as well. To be honest, it kinda seemed like you want to do 2 per video but were unsure of how we would react. You should do what you feel is best!
I don't know if this is true, but I've always suspected that Sapphire was at least partially inspired by movie Krull. Because it featured a softspoken cyclops character who could see into the future.

Ruby has fire powers and she can use a gautlet and sapphire has future vision and ice powers That's it. but when two gems fuse they get more powers and abilities that combine the both of their power so instead of having one gauntlet garnet has two because a fusion is more powerful that the both of them. if that makes sense and thats why garnet has future vision, she gets it from saphire

about the future vision: sapphire can in fact, see the future. not future possibilities, but the actual future (only if she wants to tho, like she looks at someone and see their future only while using that power). since ruby doesn’t have that power, when they fuse it gets a bit of both and it turns into multiple possibilities and not a clear future.
Sidestepping to your mentioning Gravity Falls. You may want to prepare yourself to answer the question of whether you want to solve the hidden ciphers that appear in every episode. Having seen a multitude of people react, they do it in different ways. Some simply watch the show. Not an issue, but some of the secret messages are important or provide answers that the show never explicitly does. Some look up the secret messages to know them, and some attempt and either succeed or fail to find them themselves. Just some thoughts on a rather important and somewhat unique aspect of that show. Do be careful of spoilers for that show, since much of it is about the mysteries.
In this episode the only thing they both have in commun is they like and know steven i love it

It's kind of a background thing, but they ARE in america, keep an eye on maps and flags and stuff. The world is just different in SU for reasons that will be clearer later

For that why aren't they talking to Steven like nice to meet you comment. Ruby and Sapphire already know and love Steven. Remember when he saw Opal and he was like do you know who I am and Opal started to sing his Giant Woman song to let him know Opal was with him the whole time through Pearl and Amethyst. But this isn't your first time asking/commenting on Ruby and Sapphire's interactions with Steven. If Im not mistaken, if you can just hold off until towards the end of this season, you'll have the answer you seek.
Fusing can be viewed as a friendly connection, aligning goals, familial love, and sexual love. There are more but these are the main ways to fuse. Because of that betraying someone's trust to fuse is alot like rape. Even if it is someone you know and trust, who does something for their own kind of justifiable reasons, it is still not right.
If it wasn't with Steven they'd stay centuries without talking to each other since age doesn't affect them lol
Hopefully he knows this by now, but regardless:
Sapphire's 'weapon' is her sunglasses.... to protect her future-seeing eye. She is a powerful, noble gem, but not a fighter. Her powers include ice and flight, plus seeing the future.
Ruby's weapon is the gauntlets/gloves, she is a fighter. Her power is fire.
Garnet has star-covered versions of both 'weapons', as a crystal gem. Electricity is her power, bc electricity can be made from an imbalance... think two poles... like fire and ice

I can understand what Steven was going through on the trip with his dad. He was stuck being pulled between Ruby and Sapphire in their argument. I have divorced parents, so that has happened to me before.
Keep in mind that Garnet can produce electricity.
The reason is because when a hot from collides with a cold front, it creates lightning.

From what I understand, Garnet's gauntlets are just Ruby's but 2. Weapons are summoned from the gem's... gem and gems can summon multiple and since gem fusions are more powerful, Ruby's gauntlets are bigger.
If the gauntlets where a fusion weapon, you'd see 2 separate weapons merge together.
Also, not all gems come with powers or weapons. Hell, gems that have neither might even exist
