I love how part of the reason Garnet didn't tell Steven she was a fusion is because, when he was a baby, she unfused, and he started crying in confusion! She genuinely thought she had to ease him in to knowing who her two halves were!
That's why they waited until he was old enough to understand

Fun fact! The food bluebird azurite tried to feed steven were the most common allergies to humans! Grass (pollen) peanut butter (nuts) and clams (shellfish). It was a backhanded attempt to hurt steven.

I have always loved the detail of Garnet based fusions being the size of a 3 gem fusion. Opal is much smaller than Sardonyx and Sugilite. It's a fun detail.
I think that the size, abilities, and power of fusions is tied to the rank, power, abilities, and number of the component gems.
Which ends up working fine, considering she is mostly an long-distance fighter, not needing to be huge or really strong like the others, since she uses an Bow, instead of helmets, swords, hammers, and other stuff that works better at an close-distance combat
@@sabrinazakrowski1399 The number of component doesn't count ( malachite and alexandrite are around the same level despite the different number of gems. And fluorite is pretty weak despite being a 6 gem fusion).It depend of the type of gem that make it
@felixjoblon2230 since there are some who say that certain characters in Steven Universe were made to represent LGBTQ+ and/or alternative family and relationship structures, Fluorite could be used, in a way, to represent polygamy or polyamory. You don't really see them in any sort of fighting or combat, so becoming stronger or more powerful was never a motivating factor for this fusion. It was, like Garnet, motivated by becoming a physical manifestation of their emotional connection. When Steven asked Fluorite how many gems they were made up of, they told him 6, but maybe more if they met the right gem.
But Fluorite's slow movement and speech also represents how much harder it is to hold everyone in the relationship/fusion together when there are more individuals included and involved within it. We also see this at times with Alexandrite when Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst aren't mentally aligned with each other. We never hear Obsidian even speak any real words. So, number can be an advantage up to a point, but if not perfectly aligned and/or after a certain number is exceeded, it can start to work against the fusion.
one of my favorite things about the fusions is the people they used as voices actors, Nicki Minaj as Sugilite was pure genius
The voices they picked up were great, but I kinda feel like those choices kinda made the fusions more expensive to work with. Even sardonyx makes a joke in one episode where sugalite appears and they play a recorded sample of her ans she says "Do we still have to pay her?"
I mean, of course they didn't need to fuse everytime, but there were also few moments on the show where they do fuse, but they don't talk, because that would be extra budget.
For those that don't know the design of two pearls fusion is a reference to Revolutionary girl Utena, a great anime that everyone should watch.
As much as I'd love them to watch RGU I feel like the amount of marijuanas they would need just for the SC Arc would be a massive health risk (and that's not even accounting for the Nanami epsiodes)

I love that we knew what obsidian looked like from the beginning, long before we knew about fusions, because of stevens house. I wish we had gotten a lapis peri fusion tho.
Actually, not all people realized that they had seen Obsidian from the very beginning. I remember how people argued about who the statue was. And when I said that this was probably just a statue in honor of fusions of the all four crystal gems, people just laughed at me.
@@StickStep i was legit shocked when i saw obsidian and paused it to look up a pic of the house. I had never considered the house was a depiction of the crystal gems fusions.

Sapphire's gem is obscured by the warp pad (or IS the warp pad if you look at it that way)
Ruby's gem is on one of the broken off arms
Steven/Rose's gem should be where the warp and temple entrance are
Y’know I just realized that Sunstone as the fusion of Garnet and Stevens vibe. Garnet’s natural coolness mixes with what Steven thinks is cool
The fact that Sunstone has the responsible, caretaking behavior of Steven and Sapphire but combined with Ruby's hotheaded temperature and Steven's adventurous spirit
= Sunstone's that cool, responsible parent.

This, randomly, got recommended to me and watching this made me realise. It doesn't matter how many times I watch it, after almost 8 years, Ruby and Sapphire's fusion at the end of Season 1 will always be the most emotional and beautiful moment for me in any TV show and it'll always make me tear up. I love this show so much!! 🥺🥺🥺

Honestly the most fun parts of the show especially the first ones. Garnet and Stevonnies were the best in my opinion
Fusions were always a treat on this show, shame not all of them got to be fleshed out in the original series like Sunstone and Rainbow 2.0. Plus no Bismuth fusions, or Peridot ones. It's understandable why Lapis doesn't fuse due to the trauma but at the same time the potentials would've been extremely overpowered
I don’t think Peridot would fuse either because I believe she’s supposed to represent asexual/aro people who don’t experience any sexual or romantic attraction to people. I could be wrong about that though.
@@elijahsmall5873 I've not digged into it so I could be wrong too, but my interpretation was that she was more bashful towards it, she did attempt to fuse with Garnet but got too flustered, and some fusions have been depicted as platonic. Either way it never happened but it could've led to some cool designs
@@dannybob42 Rebecca Sugar mentioned in an interview how she talked with her aroace friend and how Peridot represents people who have no interest in things like that and how that's perfectly okay and that fusion/relationship isn't something everyone has to want. She is simply not interested, while Lapis is someone who does not want to fuse because of trauma.

@@jaysax7381that's why i prefer to see it as just an union of 2 or multiple beings that has nothing to do with attraction, is just a way for two gems or more to become stronger and also connect on an "spiritual" level, you can fuse with someone that you are attracted to but is not obligatory, i guess you just have to love or feel strong emotions to the person that you fuse with, that's how Steven and greg fused

Because Fusion is about harmony in relationships, most of the fusions are voiced by singers. Garnet is voiced by Estelle, Opal is Aimee Mann, Sugilite is Nicki Minaj, Stevonnie is AJ Michalka (from the duo Aly and AJ), Sardonyx is Alexia Khadime, and Steg is Ted Leo (fun fact: Ted Leo and Aimee Mann are part of an indie rock duo called The Both).
And Ted Leo plays the fusion of Greg and Steven, so that keeps that harmony.

I also think that fusions have less arms the more compatible they are
That's why majority of fusions have 4 arms (not compatible)
Smokey has 3 arms (semi compatible)
And Garnet has 2 arms(extremely compatible)
@@Sweetrad Whenever we see Garnet unfuse, we see that Ruby and Sapphire are holding hands. So the fan headcanon is that Garnet has two arms instead of four because Ruby and Sapphire are always holding hands inside Garnet’s fused form.
Fun little detail about Bluebird Azurite; the 'food' she offers Steven when they first meet are not just weird earth things that Bluebird doesn't realize don't go together, they're all common allergens. Grass, peanuts, shellfish. Even in that scene, she's trying to kill him, because she doesn't realize that not all humans are allergic to those things.

I always kinda hoped that an after effect of their fusing would allow Connie to fuse with the others as well.
Connie + Pearl = Overprotective mom persona.
Connie + Lapis = Overly-attached girlfriend.
And of course always really wanted a stable, healthy fusion of Lapis and Peridot.

I cant remember if they ever showed Sapphire's weapon in the series. I know that Ruby's, our Ruby, weapon was shown and it was a glove like weapon.
I just realized that Fluorite is either made of 6 weak or docile individual gems, or... she be holding out on us. Obsidian is made of 5 gems and look at her.
Edit: A few seconds later, i remembered that obsidian has a diamond as one of them. That must be like having a chaos emerald as part of your body.
Another edit: Several minutes later, i realized that my point still stands because I'm fairly certain that even opal is stronger than Fluorite.

I've just realised that Obsidian has one (and a half) less gem/s than Fluorite. That feels... kinda crazy. And it makes sense that Obsidian doesn't really talk. Fluorite has been fused long enough that they can string sentences together, despite the difficulties of having 6 gem minds put into one.
The rubies make more sense, as they probably have fused before.

Unfortunately the series has ended but there has been discussion about it possibly getting revamped. If it does, I would love to see a fusion of the whole original team. Garnet+Pearl+Amethyst+Steven+Connie+Peridot+Lapis+Bismuth+Greg would be incredible!
Fun Fact: Obsidian is the woman who is posed at the front of the temple, representative of the teams perfect union. This time around, Obsidians fusion is with steven and not Rose Quartz.
