Garnet is a fusion made of love. She loves herself so much and so deeply it's literally who she is. Fusing with that has got to feel amazing, it could make you feel so complete and perfect and better than you've ever felt alone. No wonder they love fusing with Garnet so much, and no wonder Garnet loves being herself. Yeah, and since Greg stayed in Beach City, he and Vidalia became friends and, through him, Vidalia met Amethyst who used to hang out with Greg a lot. After Amethyst and Greg had their fall out over her shapeshifting, she started hanging out with Vidalia until they drifted apart because of the kids (Steven and Onion) and their respective work.
You know it’s episodes like "Keystone Hotel" that make me scratch my head at the fact that people thought the Greg was a bad character at the beginning. Until the flashback episode of him meeting Rose people thought that he was a deadbeat dad. And I never saw that at all. "KeyStone Motel" was so good. I love Ruby and Sapphire's relationship.
that's really weird to me. It's been clear from the start that Greg always loved Steven very much. Sure he doesn't exactly have everything together, but that doesn't make him a bad father or a bad person
@@arcadius2569people forget the gems basically forced greg to give steven them stating he was unfit to care for steven. And they also didnt allow greg to go to the temple.
Since Garnets fusion is two gems in love, it’s a very delicate relationship. Especially since allowing some else to fuse, is allowing them into that space (regardless of if it’s platonic love or romantic love). Pearl tricking Garnet into fusion was a breach of Ruby and Sapphires boundaries, and some people (although I wouldn’t equate it to this) have referred to this scene as r**e. But I personally think it’s an exploration of what it’s like to use someone else’s love for yourself.
And in another example of "The Steven Universe fandom does things": When this episode first came out, some fans actually looked for Keystone Motel on the internet, and they did found one motel named like that in Florida. In short time, some of the fandom reviewed bombed the motel with reviews like "I wanted to go to the pool, but there was no water and I found a little red guy walking there. Also, the pizza is square lol".
I remember that-it was actually kind of a huge deal because people were leaving negative reviews and tanking their rep, while others who had never been there before were trying to combat it by leaving positive reviews so it was just a mess 💀
Steven being confused and not knowing how to handle ruby and sapphire makes sense. He's never had two regular parents, he doesn't know what to do when he witnesses a couple arguing.
As someone who loves both garnet and pearl I really like this part of the story because we see garnet mentally hurt for the first time which you wouldn't except for such a strong person and on the other side this is where pearl's character development gets some attention and even though what she did was wrong she tries her best to make things right
You are right- So far we've really only seen Pearl's story in relation to Rose, this arc is the very first peek at her deeper insecurities and who she is as a person without Rose.
Onion showed Steven how much he likes him, in his own personal creepy Onion kind of way, pff He (tried to) let Steven feed his pet He shared something very personal with Steven (his birth video) He showed him to his secret room He gave him a very precious gift (Explorer Gal from his collection) and in the end he even made sure to show Steven that he spared the mouse he liked and set it free XD

They felt bad about making him think it was his fault and then still went and talked about their relationship without readdressing how he was feeling stressed in the household.
Keystone motel, the name always rings a bell and yet i forget just how physically intimate sapphire and ruby get towards the end, like this wasn't just a simple kiss on the lips, ruby was going places. Like it's a moment that really shows like these two are adults in a happy long term romantic relationship and this was a small glimpse into the fuller nature of said relationship.
It's always been my personal theory that Greg's tan lines are actually the result of flashburn that never truly faded, as a result of Rose giving up her form completely to make Steven. Since Gems are made of light(aka energy) projected from the gemstone, and their abilities tend to give off massive amounts of light, it would make sense that such a monumental sacrifice -- giving up her physical form completely, the formation of which seems to give off some of the brightest light -- would be strong enough to burn any unsuspecting humans in the way. Of course, it could also just be when Greg was younger and tended to wear pants rather than shorts lol
