  • How to upgrade your portable compressed air tank with quick connects and hose for fasting, easy filling and more usefulness beyond filling tires. By default you have to fill these tanks through a Schrader valve and they have a permanently attached air chuck. This modification lets you fill with a regular quick coupler from your compressor and uses the valve that comes standard on most tanks so you don't have to buy a valve. The other benefit is you can use the tank with a air chuck (still), blow gun, or any other pneumatic tool you want. My tank is an 11 gallon from Harbor Freight. This works on 5 gallon, 9 gallon, 10 gallon or any other size. Thanks for watching, subscribe.

The blue tank shown with the better setup is sold at Lowe’s for $65 and is a 7 gallon rated @ 185 psi. Well worth spending the little extra for a much better setup.

    Mine is MUCH simpler.
I have a male quick connect on the pressure valve. My air chuck hose has a female quick connect, as does the hose from my compressor. No monstrosity of male to male adapters and ball valves. Just plug the desired hose directly to the tank. Simple. Easy. Cheap.
It would make a 30 second video.

i also used a 3/8 fitting instead of a 1/4 inch and i can fill mine in about 1 minute

My question to you is I see how you attached the quick connect since you are saying fill it backwards does that mean that it will only fill if the tire valve on the tank is all the way open and I use my compressor where you usually put the tire valve chuck it should fill thoughts please thank you

I filled my air tank at 80PSI. Since my air gun take 90PSI as a max I figure I'm good. I used it 4 to 5 times in one sitting my tank was almost empty. Is that normal ? I checked the yellow air hose and fittings , but I heard no leaks.

If you're using the tank to run tools like an impact wrench, then that sounds about right because those tools use a lot of air.

Will there be a problem if u leave left over or unused air in tank for a period of time ? What MAX PSI is that rubber air hose that u use as a replacement?

It's fine to leave air in the tank, although it might leak down over time if there is any sort of leak. The air hose I used is rated for 300psi max.
