    I worked for 25 years for Pacific Bell. We had big compressors in our trucks that ran through desiccant. We needed dry air in case we needed to air up a telephone cable because they really don't like moisture. Cables gobbled up a lot of air. We also ran our tools with the dry air. However, we compensated by just oiling our tools before and after each use. We just put a few drops of oil in the quick connect. In the 25 years I did this, I never saw a tool fail. In fact, I had the same impact wrench for those 25 years. We drilled holes in concrete in manholes, etc., besides removing and putting on splice cases which had as many as 20 bolts.

    *Very satisfied. The regulator appears to be of good quality **MyBest.Tools** Have had no issues with it. It does hold a steady pressure. The water collection bowl is nicely protected by a metal cover. The adjustment knob has a locking feature which assures you dont accidentally turn the adjustment.*

    Thank you Matt, I was looking for a diy on air tanks to create a reservoir for my small air brush compressor. I've looked at fire extinguisher conversions and they seem like a good idea but by the time I source all the hardware i'll probably loose interest. Love Harbor Freight and your creation is the way I would go with as well. As I was watching your video I looked on line and found that Lowes has a finished product for $65 minus an air dryer that I'd have to pick up from HB. Kobalt Multi-Purpose Air Tank 165 psi, drain valve, intake valve etc. and it looks like nice quality. Might give this guy a try.

    I put together a rig like this when I did the roofing work on my house a few years ago. It was the best thing ever to keep the air flowing to the roof while I was running the nail gun..

    Hey Matt, I just caught this video googling "auto oilers". First thing I have to say is "Great minds think alike"... :) I have an 11 gallon HF air tank I'd plumbed years ago for multiple applications, the first of which of course, to air up tires. The most frequent use for my tank is similar to what you're doing, maintaining air volume over great distances from my compressor.
    Most often, the driveway in front of my "working garage", is populated by things I'm working on for other people, so I'll end up working up to 120' away from my compressor. With 3/8" hose over that length, you can feel the lag on impact tools, and for my die grinders and such, I'd always have to crank my regulator pressure to 150 psi just to consistently have 100 psi at the tool.
    With my remote tank right at the job, I can keep my regulated pressure at 110 PSI, and have the volume and pressure I need for anything, right at the work.
    The first thing I did was to throw away that crappy brass valve/T that came with the tank. If you look closely at the valving, you'll see it's ported to less than 1/8" internally... The tank bung is 1/2" NPT, which is quite ideal for plumbing these things for anything. For my application, I have a straight pipe going in lengthwise from the bottom of the tank, to a T connected to the bung, with the straight output facing top, or forwards with the tank laying on the ground, and a 3/8" Milton G style coupler for plugging my short hose and tools for work.
    So basically, I'm working from air shot from the compressor at a distance, and the tank acts as a bladder maintaining my pressure and flow. It's kinda like circle breathing while playing a musical instrument, using your cheeks to store air to maintain long continuous notes. :) At least that's what prompted me to do this, and yes, I have good air pressure and constant volume at any distance from my compressor. My one inch impact runs perfectly at the bottom of my driveway.
    I found this video, as I said, searching for "auto oilers". More specifically, single shot devices, such that I'd want to plumb into the pneumatic motor of my hydraulic press. Since I added the foot pedal, I have not convenient way of oiling it every time I go to use it. I just got a handful of these single application oilers from China, and I'm wondering how well they might work for my application, and whether they'll work as well horizontally mounted as vertically.
    I'm kinda funny about keeping my hoses free of oil, so I manually oil all my tools before and during use. I used to have an oiler like the one you used on your tank, and kept a crappy 25' hose on it's output, but over time the clear plug in the top just disintegrated, so I'd prefer not to have something like that hard plumbed at my press, given the infrequency in which I use it.
    There I go again, constant blabbering... :)
    I know you haven't heard from me in a few years, but I'm just getting my nerve up to start a channel, and yours has been quite inspirational for me. Thank you!
    Steve

    I know this is old, but alot of nailers and staplers dont need to be oiled, but wont be harmed if oiled. I like the idea though and will probably build this.

    thats a nice rig man! I just got the california air ultra quiet model, and its AMAZING... you don't even know its running (which is great considering i am currently living in a home owner's association) and I was looking at getting a separate 10 gallon for expanding the reserve air, and this is likely how i will set it up!

    I would have the input hose coming from the top and thru the handle just as you show. I have the same naile/stapler you have, pretty nice.

    i like to have the regulator on the tool-end of the hose. I am adjusting it all the time.

    Would CPVC be cheaper than pressure hose? I believe CPCP is capable of 200 psi..

    Why don't you buy a generator to power up the air compressor

  • @hawkrider88

    Just bought one of these to keep my motorcycle tires full. However, after a couple of tries, I cannot get it to accept more than 40lbs of air. I'm at my local Kroger Mkt. where they sell gas and free air. I've used the air station to fill my car tires with no problem. But for some reason, the tank won't take more than 40#. I don't think it's a gauge issue because when I use the air from the tank, the entire 40# is used up very, very quickly. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

      hawkrider88 the compressor your filling it up with may only be able to produce 40 psi.. I have this same tank. When I use my compressor to fill it up the pressures in the compressors tank have to be higher in order to fill the tank. Like say I want 120 pounds the compressor tank has to be at 150 if the pressure is the same no air will exchange. Does that make any sense lol 😂

    So that orange hose on top is the one coming from shed compressor? So its T jointed to the other tank and your output hose?

    • @MattHeere
      @MattHeere  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Orange is the supply from the compressor.

    A lot of Senco tools do not need oil... so watch out. If you use senco.

  • @mainelyelectric

    Another thing I don't about those tanks are that Why the hell do they make the max psi 125 if most compressors are psi of 135+ make the tank built for like 250 psi and more people will buy them!!!

  • @miguelangelvalderrama1808
    @miguelangelvalderrama1808 ปีที่แล้ว

    And what about the water drain??????

    • @MattHeere
      @MattHeere  ปีที่แล้ว

      Turn it upside down and let some air out. Water comes right out of the hose. Or don't worry about it and replace the tank for $30 in 10 years when it finally rusts through.

    • @miguelangelvalderrama1808
      @miguelangelvalderrama1808 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattHeere But i wanted to make a compressor with a fridge compressor mounted at the top of the tank, in the long time it will get water inside due to the air.

    dear sir what piping are you using from your house to shed

    • @MattHeere
      @MattHeere  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple of 100' sections of hose. It was a temporary setup, and the whole point of the remote tank is that I don't really care about the airflow over the long haul.

    • @daveandersonangry
      @daveandersonangry 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      do you have it buried in the ground or is it in the open air

    • @MattHeere
      @MattHeere  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was just lying in the open air. I only had it there for the couple of weeks that the shed was being built, and then I sold most of it on Craigslist.
