These personal stories are the most effective way to get the message across about HIV/AIDS. It was a scary time! I was so terrified of catching AIDS during the 90's that I avoided having intercourse until I was almost 30 years old. I also avoided oral sex throughout my 20's. I remember thinking I would catch HIV if I kissed someone. The most terrifying thing about HIV/AIDS was being outcast by your family and everyone around you. People were afraid be near you or touch you if you had HIV/AIDS. I was afraid if I catch HIV/AIDS, my family would not want to be around me. My brothers and sisters would not allowed their kids to be near me. Your employer fired you if you had AIDS. You basically left on the street to die by yourself. HIV/AIDS caused a slow and painful death. People with HIV/AIDS suffered a lot before they died. I would rather not have sex at all, then to go through all that. I'm still using condoms when I have sex. I noticed the younger generations stopped using condoms. A lot of people are on Prep, but I don't know how effective that is. There still a lot of uncertainty, but the most important thing is protecting your own health. There are new viruses and diseases so it's an ongoing effort to stay safe and healthy.

I say to people, prep is only for hiv. Due to the issues with anal sex, not self lubricating, it easy to cause small tears in the lining of the rectum. I bet that every generation of gay men will experience a new sti based on unsafe sex and promiscuous sexual encounters. On Reddit, some people are talking about hundreds, some thousand sexual partners. That is not healthy! They are hell bent on self destruction.

People think they are too safe. In my former environment there were two women who were and still are unfaithful to their husbands. All two women accused me of bad things and are liars and schemers, so I had to avoid and brutally break off contact with these wenches, absolute. Corona gave me the chance, as brutal as this reads, consistently to break contact. I wouldn't even care today if the two Wenches got this disease because of their actions. Whoever searches the danger will perish in it.
Even under some god awful physical conditions he kept his chin up his wit .No feeling sorry for himself just positive attitude & a comedian till the end .fantastic to watch
Two of my uncles friends had this illness. Me being a kid in the 80s I had no idea.(proof you can't get it from someone making your food) first friend passed 91. And the second passed in 2021 he was a real fighter still hanging out with my uncle driving his car around even with his oxygen tank on. Past as an old man.. They were goods guys.
It was a blessing that Peter had such a great career and was able to support himself while struggling with that illness. I can't help but feel sorry for all the helpless men and women who didn't have those great careers like Peter and couldn't support themselves why balance such a terrible disease. Peter's family is wonderful in every sense of the way that they didn't shun him and allowed him to continue to have a relationship with his nieces and nephews.

The sad thing is all the victims in this documentaries about HIV/AIDS sadly die alone without their lover or lovers, likewise the other documentaries I've seen on here are all the same, dying alone in hospices or at home alone. Its so heartbreaking 😢 💔 you can hear feel the loneliness, regrets silent pain in their voices. May all these souls rest in peace! What a courageous and inspirational gentleman. I need to remember his patience and calm in the face of the challenges he endured when I am impatient in trivial matters. His life, though short, was a success. He made a difference on this earth and the lessons he taught live on.
He seemed to keep his spirits good throughout his suffering. He did not have one ounce of negative emotions. It’s like he tried to make the best of his terminal illness. Thankfully today. HIV/Aids is no longer a death sentence.
I wish people would stop saying this. It minimizes what HIV/AIDS actually does to people through comorbidities. It absolutely still is a death sentence and the risk of infection should still be avoided. The meds are better and allow most to live longer, but they're not a cure, and curing is the only way it wouldn't be considered a death sentence.

In 2023, my brother's partner died of AIDS-related dementia and wasting disease. I don't whether or not the underlying cause was treatment failure, inconsistent adherence, or a late diagnosis. Regardless of the cause, people still die from the disease. There has been advancements in treatment, but it's still a terrible way to go.
