BEAT: The Performance Poetry of Chasen Gaver
มุมมอง 283ปีที่แล้ว
A video by Jamie Walters, VEE Productions, 1988. This compilation of performance videos and interview clips, by and about poet Chasen Gaver, is an interesting and offbeat look at the way one man gets his artistic and social messages across. Using a combination of Motown and punk rock, everyday props and precisely orchestrated delivery, Chasen has fun (often biting fun) with humankind's foibles ...

My heart goes out to everyone in this video.
Great film.
RIP Amar. You could tell that he was having trouble breathing, that poor baby. Pneumocystis is a monster to this day for AIDS patients without access to antiretrovirals and pentamidine. HIV truly is evil, and I am so grateful that we have been able to turn this into a treatable chronic health condition.
I could never forgive my mom.
Love the Republican from Houston and his “small government “.
I got so mad and sad for the kids. The innocent ones who didn’t contract it from sex or drugs, but by something they thought would be for their own good, a blood transfusion. So sad grown adults treated them like that.
I had diarrhea yesterday. I don’t have internet access anymore so I’m just trying to figure it out and then I’ll be back in the office for the next year or two days I need internet to connect to internet and internet access to my internet access to google mail app to get internet access to internet internet access to yahoo mail yahoo finance and internet access to yahoo yahoo internet yahoo google
I’m sorry for your loss
80s was very scary time for aids patients we came a long way in medicine (watching this in 2024 )
Am I to deduced that aids was started by men having sexual relationships with men? Because to date I don’t know where aids originated? Just like covid!!!
sooooo sad, by nowadays standards they would be alive and fine. This generation left a legacy - the awareness that it is in everyones hand to curb such infection.
Thank you for all the nurses who stood up and cared for these patients when noone else was there for them. may God bless you all always. ❤❤🎉
We all sin and come short of the glory of God. This is a very tragic story. Sexual immorality is one of the hardest vices to overcome, but there's NOTHING too hard for our Savior Jesus Christ! Yes, it's true that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus. David had an affair, and it cost him dearly, although he did repent, and God didn't remove the Holy Spirit from him, he did have tragedy after tragedy unfold because of his actions, and that of his son Absolom. Hopefully Suzi made her peace with God before she passed. We should always pray for mercy rather than judgment. Again, we ALL sin, and just because someone sins different than us doesn't give us the right to act as judge, jury, and executioner. Only Father God has that right. God bless
Also Ryan White caught it through Blood Transfusion ,Look how people treated him
Larry kramer,Peter staley activists remember how great they were fighting fir medication ,hospital beds everything, cruel back then how they were all treated
So this guy zero had sex with a monkey? Was Fauchi watching?
This debate is SILLY. We live in a country that still imposes the death penalty, but the terminally ill dont have the right to end their own lives and suffering? 🤡
I wonder how my Mom and Dad would’ve reacted had I told them that I had it. God rest their souls in Heaven ❤
Romanos 1 versículo 18-30
Im living with it,not having sex etc frel like a nun however since mo cure i don't want to tale mees for something that will kill me anyways.... Hey hope to see you in the Kingdom
The fact that Amy Sloan died just 4 months after this aired is devastating. She was so articulate, and was a huge advocate for education and research for AIDS. May she rest in peace.
56:50 los que están como merolicos aplaudiendo son gays que recibieron el castigo divino en la Biblia Romanos capitulo 1 versículo 18-32 no quisieron escuchar al congresista si no que sus bajas pasiones y perversiones los llevaron a la tumba
Never share toilets with people who have HIV, use safe sex, this virus probably still hits the millions 😢
The one female nurse with the British accent looks and sounds a lot like Kelly LeBrock. Also, am I the only one who thought it was strange that they were playing this sort of upbeat jazz music when they were doing the rundown of all the patients who had passed away?
I lost many friends in the late 80s and early 90s when I found a picture of me and 7 of my friends when we went to Hawaii together I’m the only one left alive it made me cry so hard
1:16:19 I'm heterosexual but this is the most heartbreaking scene I've ever watched poor Tom RIP 😔💔
"We are survivors. We shall survive again, and we shall be the strongest and most gentle people on this Earth." --Cleve Jones
Feel really sad for the child. Suzy had a choice but Troy didn’t. Fate can be so devastating.
Born in 71 so when aids came out I didn’t know anything about gay or what gay was. I thought it was just good looking men who got it. It was scary when they showed those poor dying souls on the news Id run into the other room and cry in a towel. It was creepy and weird like a horror movie that would not stop. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
She still decided to marry him though
She said she found the letters AFTER they got married.
AIDS IS EVERYONES PROBLEM
Who’s the lady reporting? She’s beautiful
Just so the world knows they created AIDS and then injected human beings. That's friends, lesbian, desert matter. You people don't believe anything. Produce some research and you'll find out for yourself. AIDS was a man-made. Biological weapon to use against the United States. Citizens just like mad cow disease just like equal. I just like COVID just like Spanish flu. They created them, then put people in Japanese. You know, the doctors lied to to patients. They did not have it a lot of patients. Did not have it, but they took the experimental drug that felt she made. Wake up world they're poisoning you
I turned 18 in January 1994. Pedro became the face of Gen-X with AIDS. Being a young gay college student at the time, I remember the vigils we held for Pedro. He educated so many, he saved many more. In 1994, AIDS was still very much a death sentence, and we all knew it. The gay community was so close back then. We took care of each other. We loved each other.
I can’t recall the last time hiv and aids was discussed on television.
I hope they still discuss this issue in schools and the home. Ignorance is not the way to go.
I was not alive when this movie came out. I'm a bi teenager, and I'm watching this because of 'Visible: Out On Television' which is a 5 part history lesson of gay television and news. History is so important because I feel like I'm the only one in my friend group who has looked up and watched so much of what it was like. I've seen the interviews and the retellings from those who survived that time. I could never know what it was like to be in that life, what it felt like, and I will eternally be grateful for that.
Sadly people still assume they cant get it 40 + years later
I was a 15 year old gay teen when this aired. Imagine being a sexually active teenager knowing one slip up meant you wouldn’t see 30. That was our reality.
Larry Kramer is such a real one, but this host sucks.
Jim was a hero for all of us 18 year old gay boys in 1994 who were scared what our future might hold, that one slip up meant not seeing 30. Because Jim fought, my life was easier. Its so sad he did not make it to 1996 when HAART became available.
I lived with my partner and rotating friend on the 1400 block of Swann 1987-1993. Wow - was a little scary - 3 guys got murdered on the corner. Later I had a boyfriend on the 1300 block of R and would literally run to his place! That house on Swann sold for 250 in 1993 - and we should have pooled our resources and bought it! Whitman Walker was 2 blocks away at 14th & S - we all got tested and waited a week for results. Scary in that way too.

This was such a scary time. I was in my 20's, and being diagnosed with AIDS was a death warrant. My roommate ended up with kaposi's sarcoma and died at the age of 30, an only son. Several friends after that. I'm so glad the current generation doesn't have to go through all that, besides the blatant homophobia.
Randy died of AIDS in 1994.
So much was known in 1989 as we see in this video. And yet, it wasn’t until 1996 the triple drug regimen that saved lives became available. Act Up, the AIDS activist group forced the government to do something.
That bi-sexual, DL husband who gave his wife AIDS is the epitome of evil. He is Lucifer in human form. RIP to his wife.💔
"Graphic Illustrations of Human Anatomy & Sexual Behaviour"?.. we're in 2024 & we see more "graphics" on tv in a sanitary pad commercial; seriously tho this documentary seems very well put together - I live in Europe & it has to be said Thank the Lord for the Americans - we despise you coz ur so rich but you r 'number 1' in so many fields including Research
God did NOT say Being GAY is a SIN.......PEOPLE DID.
I wouldn’t feel comfortable touching someone who has AIDS let alone hug them
Why not? You can’t catch it that way.
