    I am embarrassed. I am a HUGE Zelda fan and I put in more than 2000 hours since it launched. My wife was a casual gamer and play iPhone games like candy crush, plant vs zombies, sally's spa etc. but somehow she always watch me play Zelda. She would play the game and walk around when I put the game down for bathroom breaks and handed it over to me when I come back. The first Zelda game she ever played more than an hour is A Link Between worlds. So when the switch came out I bought 2 copies of BOTW because I have a hunch that she would play BOTW. She would watch me play all the time from March until July when she did the same thing of picking up the controller when I went to the bathroom. As I was in the bathroom I heard giggles over and over again so I came out and she was playing it. She was wasting my arrows trying to shoot the bokoblins and missed most of them but she was amazed at the enemies animation. I think she never played a game where character react like that and have their own personality. She logged over 3000 hours on the game. I thought I was the Zelda fan of the house.

      That's a really wholesome story haha! Thanks for sharing this. It's really lovely when someone who's a really casual gamer, interested more in the hobby.
      Since BOTW is my first Zelda game, is there any Zelda games that at least as enjoyable as this, or is BOTW just too good?

    This video is weird timing. My girlfriend had the same issues. It was too grand a scale. Where do you begin. She only just got to hateno village after she put the game down for almost a year. The games size and nature being this open was overwhelming.
    But as of this week, she's restarted the game, and yesterday, she spent 12 hours straight. She's been showing me all the things she's found, and it's like reliving the game in little bite-sized pieces.
    Her favourite thing so far was realising the reason she was getting struck by lighting on thundra plateau was because she had metal weapons equipped. She's just collected enough arrows for vah rutah, so I can't wait for her to tackle her first divine beast.

    One detail that really impressed me was in the desert. If you stand in the shade it is actually slightly cooler and sometimes prevents you overheating, even though the shadows are dynamic and constantly shift as time passes. I dont know why, but I found that to be such and incredibly awesome detail.

    I enjoyed playing this game so much,, and convinced my dad to play it when he was going through a depressive episode, and lent him my switch for a couple of months. It’s the first game he’s played since he was in his 20’s, (He’s in his 50’s now).
    At first he would complain constantly about not understanding the controls, and worrying he would never be able to be quick with selecting weapons, (definitely almost rage quit a few times lol) I just kept telling him to stick with it, and he would eventually get it, practice makes perfect. He became better at the game than me haha.
    Not only did it bring us closer together, but I enjoyed watching him play/enjoy the game so much. He did everything you could possibly do in the game, so I bought the expansion so he could have more to do.
    It was amazing to see him have so much youth in his soul, he would laugh/giggle while interacting with every npc, and rant about his amazement at the beauty of the landscapes.
    Ever since the new Zelda game has been announced a few years back, he brings it up every time we see each other, talking about how excited he is to explore and appreciate a new game all over again. Now that the release date has been announced, he literally put it in his calendar so he could count down the days until May.
    It’s truly an amazing game that can also bring people together ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

      I did have to help him with a few of the bosses, because he would completely forget about eating food, then die and get upset. So I had to sit beside him while he played and remind him to eat food to fix his health before continuing,, lol

I dropped the game after finishing the getting the locked memories. I started again a few months later and dropped it again. Finally picked up again about two weeks ago. I realized that I don't have to fight every monster I come across and I can just explore, finding koroks in odd out of the way places and doing the side quests of the npc's. I've watched countless videos on side jumping and back flips and still panic when confronted with a big monster. :) I have got the method to kill guardians and a cool cheat (you could call it?) called a shock trap. When I first found Hateno village I thought I would love to live there in real life, I didn’t even know I could get a house in the game for Link at the time. It’s really a masterpiece, it’s so calming but yet adventurous and for someone who’s neurodivergent like me and gets overwhelmed with lights and loud sounds I really enjoy it. I will continue to play this game for a while until the new one comes out, I even got a second copy of it for my 3 year old, I know it’s a 10 and up game but all he wants to do is shoot arrows, fight bokoblins and hang around the stables and talk to the npcs 😂

    Thank you for this video :)
    I myself had Breath of the Wild when I first got a Switch. I played it a little and then I got overwhelmed as soon as I was dropped into the big world. So I quickly dropped it, and ended up giving it to a friend. But recently I have been thinking about giving it another go. A little uncertain if it's worth it. But your video has given me the confirmation I needed to actually try it once more. So I will get that game back and hopefully enjoy it as much as you do!

    Zelda games have always been my favorite since each one of them have their own very specific gameplay features. If we look only at the 3D Zelda, here some specific gameplay features that makes them unique:
    - Ocarina of time has the ocarina songs that make you interacting with the environment + the time travelling
    - Majora's mask has the ocarina songs too but the main features are the masks enabling you to have completly different ways of playing within the same Zelda game
    - the Wind Waker has also the song thing but the main unique gameplay feature is the boat and the possibility to travel in the ocean
    - Twilight princess has the Wolf transformation feature that is really interesting + many great donjon objects
    - Skyward Sword has the possibility to fly + also many great donjon objects
    -.Breath of the wild is the best for the exploration of the lands and enigmas but the worst for donjons' aventure side. Don't get me wrong Breath of the wild is a masterpiece to me I love it so much and I can still enjoy myself playing it. However, the other Zelda brings something with the donjons, the music and the bosses that was pure epicness and adventure that I didn't feel that much in Breath of the wild. I really recommend you Zelda Twilight princess that is one of the most epic and adventurous ones. It gives you less freedom than breath of the wild but the adventure feeling in this one is really huge. It is also the most mature one. Please give it a try if you have not so far.

Everything in this game is amazing, the freedom to do anything in any order you want, the exploratiom when u actually dont want to do anything, and mainly the glitchs like windbomb, menu overload(that makes life way easier for someone playing for the third time). Honestly, while I found breakable weapons irritating at times, I will say it unconsciously caused me to find creative ways to deal with enemies. Sometimes I knew I'm not winning a fight with a mop and rake, so I'd use whatever creative means that I could. If my 50 damage cool sword I found laster forever, why am I not going to just mow everything down with that? One caveat is, that in older games enemies required unique interaction to deal with as opposed to just hitting them, which is what made the old style combat engaging, whereas a lot of the BOTW enemies can be killed with swinging your weapon x number of times. If they were to alleviate the issue of constantly breaking equipment but also encouraging experimentation in combat, start with making enemy encounters more diverse.
    An example from Ocarina of Time:
    The first dungeon (The Great Deku Tree) houses Boku-baba. Boku-baba are first introduced standing with their stalks exposed so you can cut right through. When you enter the Deku Tree you are met with Boku-baba who do not expose their stalks, right away... So it encourages you to find ways of exposing that stalk!
    Also you have Deku Scrubs, which require you to deflect their projectiles back at them and chasing them down to defeat, just your sword isn't enough.
    Skulltulas, who after some delay, turn to expose their weak spots. Attacking them head on does not work.
    This is a longer comment than I would usually post but your comments on weapon degradation kinda inspired me. 😅

    • @SleepyMortal
      @SleepyMortal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly what I thought about the breakable weapons! I think I mentioned a bit of that in the video. I haven't played any older Zelda games, so I can't compare it. But from what you wrote, that can be a more fun way to approach combat!
      Hopefully they implement some of that into ToTK. Having breakable weapons, while also creative ways to beat enemies. BOTW have some of that but not really focused on it.
      Also, don't worry about long comment! I actually enjoy reading comment like this, and I like to reply to every comment. Thanks for sharing this!

    My switch broke in 2021 so I can't play this master piece again but I already put more than 500 hours in it before my switch broke so I can't imagine how much more I would've played it if it didn't break but man I miss the switch for this specific reason.

    I bought and sold Breath of The Wild twice and never made it past the cold segment to get to the fourth shrine in the tutorial section. I got lost in the cold and died again and again which fustrated me.
    Now I learnt there is a cold resistant sweater I need to get to survive the cold. But I still don't know if I can get past my depression to get motivated to play BoTW.

      I'm in a somewhat similar situation with yours. Depression is hard and complex, so please take care and ask for help.
      About the game, BOTW gave me a similar feeling that got me through hard times. Maybe not as easy or as simple to play as let's say, Death Stranding/Yakuza 0/Persona 5 Royal, but it's worth playing in those struggling times imo

    i got the game as a gift but i never touched it for literally years, i found it waaay too boring.only recently i got in to the game in 2021, but due to irl things i never really get the chance to play. i feel incredibly stupid for not ever trying out this wonderful game before and i share a very similar story to you! i found the game boring at first, and that's because i usually lack creativity and that also means i lacked any idea of what to do in the video game. after like 5 hours of playing, i finally decided to get a grip and finish the 4 starter shrines (after like 3 years) and by the time i'd gotten the paraglider my goals and ideas were forming. I never knew how much of an amazing game this was until just recently! honestly i'm embarrassed that it took me this long to enjoy it 😅

    • @SleepyMortal
      @SleepyMortal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I can definitely relate to your story, since I'm also lack of creativity. That's why I don't enjoy sandbox games. But thankfully, this game is not just about that, but rather help/lead/teach you the way to get creative. It was very unique but also feels organic!

    See, I didn't get Breath of the Wild until August of last year. I hadn't played many open world RPG sort of games before as I mainly played Sims and Pokémon growing up. Earlier last year I had spent like 5 months grinding Legends Arceus which I found to be my new favourite pokemon game due to the fresh new (mostly) open world and new game mechanics. After I finished that I figured I might like BOTW, and I found a copy for like $30 off at a convention... and now I've been grinding it nearly daily since August of last year. I think it was the perfect time to pick it up since I had tons of time to get myself acquainted with both Breath of the Wild and the Zelda franchise prior to Tears of the Kingdom coming out.

    • @SleepyMortal
      @SleepyMortal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing this! If you haven't tried Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, I think you will enjoyed that too since it gave me a similar vibe with BOTW
      Of course, not as good since you know it's a Pokemon game, but the story is surprisingly good!

    • @llCoupDEtatll
      @llCoupDEtatll ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SleepyMortal I have Scarlet and Violet, Im one of those crazies who get every pokemon game on release date. But to be honest, it didn't have the same appeal to me that Arceus did, or even that BOTW still does. I think it might be the simple fact that it is still a main series pokemon game. Even if there is a huge open world between me and every gym, I am a completionist, so I end up ignoring the fun open world parts in order to focus on gym badges and such. Where as in Arceus it felt more natural to just leave the main plot alone for a bit in favour of exploration.

    • @SleepyMortal
      @SleepyMortal  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@llCoupDEtatll I see, maybe I was biased since Scarlet Violet is the only Pokemon game that I played after Pokemon Black and White, so I enjoyed it a lot. One of my friends who is a Pokemon fan also love Arceus, maybe I should give it a try someday

      @@SleepyMortal That does make sense, you skipped all of the lousy games in between Black and White and Scarlet and Violet which... is a good thing lol.
      If you liked Scarlet and Violet and BOTW then you will LOVE Arceus as well. It is (in my opinion) the best pokemon game since Black and White. I can't speak highly enough about the game because it's just so enchanting.

    I still think it's funny that so many people disliked the weapon durability so much... You find weapons EVERYWHERE... I spend more time seeing "You can't carry any more melee weapons" than having weapons break.

    • @SleepyMortal
      @SleepyMortal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha I kinda get why that's an issue. For me, I'm used to playing games with getting the best equipment possible. In JRPGs, MMORPGs, even game like Elden Ring where every weapon give you different playstyle & build, I still too used to just use 1 weapon for the entire playthrough haha!
      So coming to BOTW, it's like a completely different experience. Sometimes I found a cool-looking sword and really want to keep it

    It’s still playable I just loaded up the other day, a new game. 6 years old and it’s not dated and still looks great. BUT it could use touching up like with the loot system. It’s a pretty basic game at the heart of it, but with many systems working within it. But the ‘basicness’ is kind of obvious to me…maybe I put too many hours in which is sad because this is my top 3 games of all time and probably always will be I’m waiting for BOTW2 and can’t wait

    4:50 if you are atlking about Zelda games. Yes it is the first Zelda game where you can break your Weapons (except for the biggoron sword in oot) but not it's not the fist gale where weapons can break. Minecraft for exemple has a durability system. Darks souls games too have a durability system but it only has an actual impact in DS 1.
