@@matan8074 I didn't know what Chaos faction would be revealed when I made the guess. Yes, the Iron Warriors are the best at siege warfare. But it matches the Word Bearers' love of forbidden knowledge too.
Blackstone Fortresses are kind of a catch-all for big targets. Abbadon the Despoiler stole I think three of them during his twelfth black crusade, and used one to blow up Cadia during the thirteenth. They're one of the strongest weapons in WH40K, though that is somewhat relative considering the scale of the whole universe. Having one be a focus, not necessarily even for a full campaign but a major side plot, makes sense, considering the immense power of them, but I also sort of hope that Owlcat goes further beyond even that for their big story focus of this game.

Onest question. Why did you collect Word Bearers (For real, dont wanna judge you)? For me they are the least interesting and most weak faction from the lore perspective.

Considering other Owlcat Games, they're probably an alternate route for the player... just like Wrath of the Righteous where you could either (among various other choices) become an avatar of the gods or a demonlord and get according support from these powers. You can probably betray the imperium and turn to chaos in order to "solve" your other problems.
The word bearers are very cool and their view of chaos as the primordial truth is very interesting. I just hope they aren't treated as a mustache twirling Saturday morning cartoon villains of the week. I want a game that delves into their philosophy.

The wording on some of their more recent posts was definitely leading me to believe the Word Bearers would play a role, but it's exciting to have that confirmed. Art looks great too!
They just need to move out of the country they're currently based in - open up offices/studios in western Europe (or Poland) or the United States before they get caught up in what's happening in world events. They're a great studio that make good games (own them all) and I'd hate to see them go under like that.

Good to see Word Bearers, usually most Wh40k games have some Khorne warband or one of the more represented legions/warbands from Chaos Undivided like Black Legion.
This would be the second appearance (that I know of) of the Word Bearers in a 40K computer game. The first was in Chaos Gate by SSI in 1998. Quite nostalgic to have them back.
My main army for loyalists are a blood angel successor chapter but my traitor force is word bearers so I'm most certainly happy to hear this news.I hope Erebus or Kor Phaeron make an appearance. I also hope we can make our own marine character as a companion like in pathfinder.
I have no doubt we’re going to be interacting with loyalist space marine chapters, with them being the poster boys and all. Maybe a fleet-based successor chapter.

since the downfall of bioware (thx ea), people are starving for CRPGs. Hopefully Owlcat Games make a game that can satisfy my CRPG hunger at least for a while.
For anyone interested: humblebundle currently has a bundle with tons of sourcebooks for Rogue Trader (and Deathwatch). Every now and then they also have bundles from Paizo for PF1 and 2.
It's actually not wrong, he only chastised and denouncend them at first. But they kept going with the worship and only THEN did Big E burn down Monarchia.

Only finished ROTR the other day for the first time, and I am very excited for this! Dawn of War was one of my favourite games as a kid. This is going to be a great mash-up.
That's so dope. At this point, a better question to ask is what faction *isn't* getting representation in Rogue Trader. I'm hoping we see some Votann but that's wishful thinking.

Word Bearers were a good choice. Out of all the CSM factions, Word Bearers are the most likely to try to have a conversation with you. Though you may not want to hear what they have to say. They also canonically have Power Word KIll as a spell.
The Emperor's misguided heavy handed chastisement of Lorgar and his legion were definitely a major factor in them going rogue and eventually corrupting Horus leading to the heresy. However I qlways believed that the ultimate villain in the story even over Lorgar himself was definitely Erebus. Erebus worshiped chaos from the very beginning, and through his position of first chaplain was able to subtlety manipulate Lorgar towards his eventual corruption from the very beginning. It was Erebus whom planted the seeds that would lead to the Heresy, and it was he who was pulling everyone's strings from behind the scenes all along.
Kinda happy that the chaos faction isn't Death guard and Nurgle while I don't have problem with them I'll admit that they've had the spot light for awhile now. Plus the Word Bearers can make for a good way to introduce a newcomer to chaos and the lore surrounding the Emperor and the Horus heresy.
I wonder if Lorgar will make an appearance, out of all the deamon primarchs he is considered to be the weakest and we had mortarion in the recent gray knights game so it would be cool if we had to stop Lorgar or at least indirectly stop him from corrupting an important imperial world.

The Word Bearers being involved puts in some interesting possibities for the risk/possibility of the crew becoming corrupted/having the imperial creed manipulated (because it's actually Lorgar's book for the most part - Lorgar is the Primarch of the Word Bearers). So the Imperial Creed is the manipulated version of the writings of a traitor primarch about the emperor. The word bearers were also sanctioned for being the slowest legion to capture territory during the Great Crusade - though arguably had the most stable territory reclamation methods because they actually stayed around to secure power.

Bit of an understatement with the Word Bearers downfall. The Emperor didn’t just chastise the Legion. He had their capital burnt to the ground, had the civilians living there slaughtered, and forced the entire Legion to their knees using his psychic powers to lecture them. Then, after all that, they discover that the Emperor lied about gods not existing.
God I hope this game ends up good. I've wanted an isometric Rogue Trader Warhammer game for years and years. My friends and I even wrote one and wanted to design it but none of us ever got into video game industry lol. I'm so excited about this.

Art looks great! Im wondering how power armor will be tackled for the player, and ofcrouse now, if we can fall to Chaos like the demon mythic path. I feel like Wrath of the Righteous is really a great warm up for the 40k setting in terms of types of characters and stories.
This worries me a bit, just as the reveal of the Space Wolf companion worried me. The various FFG RPGs don’t use Space Marines (with the exception of the Deathwatch RPG) specifically because they’re practically superheroes in that universe. Their stats would be game breaking, and even a single one would pose a threat to a Rogue Trader’s entire combat power (on the ground, obviously not including their void ship). It would be hugely disappointing if the Rogue Trader and their retinue are in any way comparable to a Space Marine in combat. In DnD terms it would be like a L3 character going toe-to-toe with an ancient dragon. This will only work well if the Rogue Trader has to engage with the Word Bearers through some kind of skulduggery / diplomacy / pursuit or something like that.
Thanks for the info, great vid! Now, I really like the concept art, but I can't say I'm the biggest fan of how the models look in-game. The graphics look a bit too vibrant for 40k, imho, and the models a bit cartoony and closer to WotR; like they are RotR models with new textures on them. Still excited about the game though.
My theory on the story is that you do "out of area" operations for various imperial organisations. So you probably encounter the Word Bearers while working with the Ordo Hereticus, which makes sense since you have a companion from the Adeptus Sororitas (and also an unsanctioned Psyker to make it extra spicy). Similarly there will be an AdMech-Nekrons arc.
The Word Bearers are terrifying if we are gonna be playing as a human character, they are in the top 3 of factions that you need to NOT be taken alive (along Dark Eldar and Night Lords).
Guessing that the Word Bearers will be among the antagonists. Though it would be interesting to have one of them as an optional character among your crew; acting as a devil on your shoulder.
Glad to see another of the chaos legions be represented, while the black legion is neat, it's a bit overrepresented in my opinion. Though I still hope that my bois, the Alpha Legion, make an appearance, even if it's brief.
I am curious to how well Owlcat is going to handle the adaptation of Rogue Trader from Table Top to Video Game. I want to be hopeful, and while I still enjoy playing Wrath, I have many issues with how they handled the Mythic Paths as well as other aspects of game mechanics in that game (not to mention that so many class mechanics were broken at launch). I want this game to be good, I really loved the tabletop game and the setting of 40K...I'm just a little more skeptical now.
By the dark gods I hope they're the FINAL boss. The Eisenhorn books ( which EVERYONE SHOULD READ) does it correctly when It comes to normal humans interacting with astartes & how insanely powerful they are. It's literally because of only thousands of them the emperor could conquer an entire galaxy.
Always love a little bit of Mortismal knowledge just as much as I enjoy a giant block of your information. You got to try WOTR, which has over 1,000 hours in it now, and to try Elden Ring even though it didn't sound like my type of game except for the spectacular world building. I now have ove 700 hours in ER and I was way late to the game having bought it after patch 4 came out. You will always be in my pantheon of TH-camrs that have made my life more enjoyable.

Word Bearers I guess . I was expecting Thousand Sons
Art looks great! Im wondering how power armor will be tackled for the player, and ofcrouse now, if we can fall to Chaos like the demon mythic path. I feel like Wrath of the Righteous is really a great warm up for the 40k setting in terms of types of characters and stories.
100% all in for this, I run Word Bearers for my CSM so seeing them as a major faction over Black Legion is awesome to me
The only time I remember seeing them as a major faction in a game is in Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2, and the original Dawn of War

This worries me a bit, just as the reveal of the Space Wolf companion worried me. The various FFG RPGs don’t use Space Marines (with the exception of the Deathwatch RPG) specifically because they’re practically superheroes in that universe. Their stats would be game breaking, and even a single one would pose a threat to a Rogue Trader’s entire combat power (on the ground, obviously not including their void ship). It would be hugely disappointing if the Rogue Trader and their retinue are in any way comparable to a Space Marine in combat. In DnD terms it would be like a L3 character going toe-to-toe with an ancient dragon.
This will only work well if the Rogue Trader has to engage with the Word Bearers through some kind of skulduggery / diplomacy / pursuit or something like that.

Now, I really like the concept art, but I can't say I'm the biggest fan of how the models look in-game. The graphics look a bit too vibrant for 40k, imho, and the models a bit cartoony and closer to WotR; like they are RotR models with new textures on them.
Still excited about the game though.

My theory on the story is that you do "out of area" operations for various imperial organisations. So you probably encounter the Word Bearers while working with the Ordo Hereticus, which makes sense since you have a companion from the Adeptus Sororitas (and also an unsanctioned Psyker to make it extra spicy). Similarly there will be an AdMech-Nekrons arc.
I know next to nothing about this franchise but the gameplay clips look pretty good. Can't wait to get a better look at the game itself.

The Word Bearers are terrifying if we are gonna be playing as a human character, they are in the top 3 of factions that you need to NOT be taken alive (along Dark Eldar and Night Lords).
You all go to see "Death of Hope Trailer 2" to get a nice introduction to the World Bearers.
Guessing that the Word Bearers will be among the antagonists. Though it would be interesting to have one of them as an optional character among your crew; acting as a devil on your shoulder.
I would love to possibly side with the Word Bearers
Glad to see another of the chaos legions be represented, while the black legion is neat, it's a bit overrepresented in my opinion. Though I still hope that my bois, the Alpha Legion, make an appearance, even if it's brief.

I am curious to how well Owlcat is going to handle the adaptation of Rogue Trader from Table Top to Video Game. I want to be hopeful, and while I still enjoy playing Wrath, I have many issues with how they handled the Mythic Paths as well as other aspects of game mechanics in that game (not to mention that so many class mechanics were broken at launch). I want this game to be good, I really loved the tabletop game and the setting of 40K...I'm just a little more skeptical now.
By the dark gods I hope they're the FINAL boss. The Eisenhorn books ( which EVERYONE SHOULD READ) does it correctly when It comes to normal humans interacting with astartes & how insanely powerful they are. It's literally because of only thousands of them the emperor could conquer an entire galaxy.

Always love a little bit of Mortismal knowledge just as much as I enjoy a giant block of your information. You got to try WOTR, which has over 1,000 hours in it now, and to try Elden Ring even though it didn't sound like my type of game except for the spectacular world building. I now have ove 700 hours in ER and I was way late to the game having bought it after patch 4 came out. You will always be in my pantheon of TH-camrs that have made my life more enjoyable.

They're probably going to summon a greater daemon or a daemon prince. That's usually Chaos's motives in Warhammer games.
