Funny thing is after a while Shelby and Ken Miles worked on the Mustang out of obligation with the Ford 🐎 Team and made it Faster. I think they helped with the 350 mustang 🐎 in the 60's.
@@DriverTheIntern He was actually one of the primary people who made the GT350R what it is. There are iconic pictures of his No. 98 Mustang with all four wheels off the ground. Every car that man touched became better.
I tried sharing this to a Chevy Camaro group on Facebook because I thought they'd get a laugh out of it. It was emediatly taken down because it didn't follow their group rules apparently, but I've seen more out of topic things get accepted on the group that had nothing to do with cars. So, Facebook group post are only acceptable by favoritism and not rules😂. Wow, what a soft world this is.
Funny that's what the original Mustang would've been like. A shorter wheelbase, lighter weight, and a V8 engine. The only thing they can't lower is the price. So Ford had to do a shortcut and use an existing sedan chassis and put the design of the Mustang concept to it and call it a day.
Interesting. I'm a fan of all cars from this era, but responding to what he said, the Mustang was both lighter and had a shorter wheelbase than the Chevelle. Both cars came with inline 6-cylinder engines and 3-speed manual transmissions. He did however forget to point out that the Chevelle offered 2 larger engine options. He also ignored the Chevelle's 2-speed automatic transmission, vs the Mustang's 3-speed auto.
A 64 Mustang had a curb weight of 2450 lbs with a straight rear axle, a weak V8 option, and a flimsy first generation unibody. A 64 Chevelle weighed 2780 lbs with a factory four link rear end, a fully boxed frame, and could be optioned with a V8 that added 100lbs to the curb weight. Its sister, the 64 GTO (also a GM A Body) is widely credited with being the first factory built muscle car. Despite only weighing 18% than the Mustang, the GTO has better handling suspension and 65% more power. Comparing factory built vehicles, GM’s 64 A-Body is objectively a better handling and more powerful car than the Mustang. Ford upped their game over the following years, while GM bloated the weight of the A-Body platform. 64 was still GM’s year though.
Something funny is if you look at the cars for the next 3 years they slowly started doing what he said also at the time those cars were brand new so of course it’s gonna have problems nothing is perfect the first time
I know it’s intentional..but with such a great delivery I STILL can’t tell if he is referring to the Mustang or the Chevelle as a “terrible car” at the end.
I believe he is referring to the chevelle as a terrible car as it was it was the last object referred to. And its also meant to exaggerate how much he hated the mustang- that he thinks its worse than an already terrible car

Ford did take at least some of Miles’ advice, funnily enough. They swapped out the inline-6 engine for a 260 V8 not long after the launch, which ended up being the same engine in the AC Shelby Cobra.
Except the Mustang FAR outlived the Chevelle and the Camaro GM built to compete with the Mustang. Building only more expensive models isn't very good for sales. The Chevelle was a pig compared to the Mustang. Bigger and heavier.
it’s just one of those things you kinda don’t do Like smoking indoors or spitting on the floor. especially where it’s a new model and a show car you want it looking it’s best for buyers and investors or just in general. also he didn’t just touch it he opened the door and stuck his head in. I think he was respectful enough and talked to his parent as well as him when telling him to stop.
The first generation mustang was an awful car. Rear suspension solid axle with leaf springs. Fuel filler easy to hit in minor accidents, poor brakes, when driving even moderately a new mustang flexed somewhat excessively. A good looking turd and everybody wants one !
Also I own a 1970 red with two black stripe ss 396 chevelle it’s really easy to spin the wheels you don’t have to do much to do so and I own a 1994 ford 5.0 mustang convertible the looks aren’t there every car has it’s bad year and the 80’s and 90’s were not it for mustangs they looked goofy but it’s actually really powerful
Ken Miles’s was hard to enough like as it was in this movie. Then when is son was asked perfectly politely not to touch a showroom model car, he came out with that 😂.
