Thank you so much for your review! It was definitely more unique and answered questions that others haven't asked. I feel like most review videos are just repetitions of what was discussed when the M4 was announced. I had no idea about flicker. I recently purchased the M4 (haven't opened it yet) but now I am a bit concerned about this oled phenomena. I'll be researching more about it. Thanks again!

Yeah, as an artist, I’m already sold on the iPad Pro. Since 2018, it’s replaced my laptop as my main content creation & media consumption device. However, your video did convince me to go with the standard screen over the nano texture one. 👍🏼

Unless you get the 1 TB or 2 TB model, this is honestly a worse upgrade to a 2018 or 2020 model than the M2 iPad Pro. Cutbacks on the 256/512 GB model:
-The chip is binned so you lose one of the performance cores
-They now use one storage chip instead of two, so your storage speed is significantly slower. This has a real impact in that these models can’t do ProRes @ 4k30fps
Issues that apply to all M4 models compared to upgrading to an M2:
-You lose an ultrawide camera and have no other camera upgrades. The camera hardware is just worse than the last 3 models. Software should make up for it with all that AI performance, but it’s still kinda weird to see this cut. I’d rather lose the lidar.
-If you own any current iPad accessories, you gotta throw them out for the new ones as there is no backwards or forwards compatibility between this iPad and its accessories and the previous versions.
For the privilege of all the compromises, you get to pay $200 more and that’s if you compare new prices. Obviously you will see M2 iPads on fire sales now. The M1 iPad Air is already at $400 on Amazon. Is all of this worth that tandem OLED display? On a tablet? To be fair, I haven’t seen it in person, so maybe. But to me it just seems difficult to justify all of this.

  • @galefraney

The point you make about the nano glass coating is true and very important. I saw a TH-camr talking about how he has the Apple Studio display with this same nano texture glass and he showed how text appears a bit blurry with 'scattered' non-crisp lines. I'm so glad I watched that video before ordering my new M4 iPad Pro because I was about to order it with the nano texture, but I do a lot of reading on my iPad: news articles, ChatGPT 4 output text, e-books, etc., so text quality is vital. I then ordered it with "standard glass" and I am super happy with this purchase!!
To be 100% honest, setting aside all the hype when new models are released, I did a careful comparison of this new OLED display side by side with my M1 iPad Pro with its mini-LED display ... and the image quality and crispness is almost identical. I viewed the exact same HD Dolby Vision movies side by side on the exact same image frame, etc., and only when I looked super closely was I able to see a very slight difference in resolution quality. For example, in Avatar - Way of Water ... I could notice a very slight improvement in detail like jewelry or hair braids, but nothing significant. So anyone who already owns an M1 or M2 iPad Pro should not feel like they are missing out on image quality ... the mini LED screens are already excellent! (and don't worry about the so-called 'blooming' issue ... white text on a solid black background looks pretty much identical on both the new OLED display side-by-side with the M1's mini-LED display.
But the new keyboard and Pro Pen are both fantastic, and of course the hardware specs for people using Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro for iPad ... and to future proof for new Ai capability ... these are the things that set this new iPad Pro apart from previous models.

I agree with you 100% the OLED iPad Pro is the most overrated product I have seen since 2001 when they introduced the Segway. At that time they told people everybody would be using them for transportation. Some of the geniuses even said it would be more important than the Internet. Steve Job is quoted, as saying, as important as the PC. Which a year later, he said, the product actually sucked. Here we are 23 years later and the only people using them are overweight mall cops. Now with the introduction of Amazon, they too will be obsolete very shortly.
I paid over $1300 to Apple for the 11 inch iPad Pro with the OLED Display, which included the $229 Logitech keyboard case.
When the iPad 11 arrived on May 15, I immediately compared it side-by-side to my 7 year old 10.5 inch iPad Pro with 256 GB and retina display. After using them both side-by-side for three days indoors and outside in bright sunlight, I could honestly not tell the difference between either of them in display quality. Initially, after first turning them both on, I actually had to look at the box to make sure it was the model with the OLED display. The only way I could really tell the difference was because mine has a white bezel. so yesterday May 18th I put the iPad 11 back into its nice little box and sent it off to Apple for a full refund.
I was actually thinking of purchasing the 13 inch iPad Air to replace my 7 year old 10.5 inch iPad Pro but after visiting Apple‘s website and using the compare models feature, I decided against it, and here are the reasons why.
1 : Apple decided to cripple the iPad Air by removing promotion, which means it will only refresh at 60 Hz instead of 120 Hz like my 7 year old 10.5 inch iPad Pro has.
2 : It would be a quarter pound heavier need I say more.
3 : Apple decided as a marketing ploy, to remove 2 speakers, and one microphone as incentive to jump to the next higher and model. My 7 year old iPad has 4 speakers and two microphones.
4 : My 7 year old iPad has promotion which is quite important to stop rubberbanding affect and anything that requires 120 Hz for speed games, etc.
5 : I decided to use my $1300 to buy some Apple stock this way for a change they could pay me when all the suckers run out and buy this overhyped nonsense.
One last thing I noticed after you spend over $1,300 / $ 2,800 they do not even include the 36 W charger only a 20 W ,but conveniently sell it on their website $49.99 they even stopped, including the 2 stupid stickers claiming environmental reasons, but you can get them in the store after purchasing an iPad. Apparently that does not affect the environment.
Also, Apple has cut a deal with logictech to supply their keyboard exclusively for the first month at an inflated price of $229 when it should cost $139 on Amazon but for now the only place you can purchase it is from Apple.
    Thanks, Timmy but no deal.

    • @NoName-zf6nr
      @NoName-zf6nr 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@terribletimes902 Examples of Apple's disrespect of users are as follows.
I do not want to use iCloud so Apple punishes me by 1) 1 to 6 popups per day requesting my confirmation to the iCloud terms and 2) disabling WLAN updates of iPadOS (or forcing unwanted agreement to the iCloud terms). There is only the option "Not Now" instead of "Never". I have had to click "Not Now" thousands of times now. Popups also occur at random times. All this wastes my time and costs my nerves.
The iCloud terms violate regular EU and German laws, basic and human rights, and each application of the iCloud terms by Apple would violate the German criminal code, and my acceptance of the iCloud terms would violate data protection laws imposing fines on me for not data protecting my customers. This is so because the iCloud terms, if read carefully, "grant" Apple the right to use all my cloud files and all my device-local files and spread them to anybody in the world for arbitrary use.
I do not want to use speech recognition but if accidentally I press the related virtual keyboard button, there is only the option "Not Now" instead of "Never".
In various settings, I want to disable all options but there is no "Disable All" button. Instead, I have to click each option individually.
During the first years, the Walled Garden and missing file management was even very much worse than now. Apple wants me to buy only Apple devices so the Walled Garden still, for example, prevents exporting Safari bookmarks to an HTML file, which then I could import in other browsers on my Windows computers. One either has to pay €40 for an app like iMazing, or copy and paste each bookmark individually.
I set up SMB to share files via the app Files to a Windows PC. If I use LAN, it works. If, however, I want to use WLAN, a bug can occur so that then either a) all my selected files on my iPad are lost or b) I have to circumvent the bug by then confirming each file to be transferred individually. If hundreds of thousands of files had been selected, this would take weeks. Hence, naturally the user wants to be flexible and use LAN or WLAN but Apple wants the user to use only one method.
During 8 1/2 years of using my iPad, video streaming has always had 1 or 2 major, frequent bugs. Apple's quality control refuses to fix such bugs quickly and to avoid introducing new bugs on fixing previous bugs.
Powerful file management does not exist. Handling files of types that are not mainstream is limited. As a consequence, I cannot do 2/3 of applications I would want to do on my iPad. I need to use my PCs for them. I think in terms of actions on 100,000s files per type while Apple thinks that an action of more than 1 file at a time is already luxury.
Needless to say, there are also basic GUI restrictions. Apple wants a simple GUI while the user might prefer more flexibility. Furthermore, I want more user separation and much more security management than Apple provides.
During the first few months of my iPad, the battery information showed the very useful time spent since last charging and I used that several times per day. Afterwards, Apple removed this and introduced several battery statistics that tell me nothing so I never use it. Now, I have to manually log my time spent since last charging.
During the first few months of my iPad, the battery lasted 11:50 indoors. Then Apple updated iOS and from the next day on, the battery lasted only 10:00 indoors. Since then, Apple has never fixed this bug or malicious intent of preventing a too good battery life better than the advertised 10:00. It is no surprise that Apple needs to spoil the battery information to hide the sudden decrement.
Apple still thinks to know better than the enduser what he wants. --robert jasiek

As you said - what really is the use case for such an expensive device? Especially a device that another tech device can’t do better? So good job on highlighting those points as it gives a more balanced review I think.

Excellent comments on the new iPad Pro M4! I’m thinking of getting a new 2022 iPad Pro 11 M2. Then I can still use my current Apple Pencil & Magic Keyboard. (I can’t believe Apple has no reverse compatibility with these perfectly good accessories and the new M4 iPad Pro’s!)

The issue you were having with maximizing the TH-cam video seems to be in the software itself. If you hit the touch screen and then try clicking again, it may work. Sometimes it takes a few tries. This leads me to believe it’s a bug in the software that Apple has yet to address.

I’ve gone from the iPad 2 to the iPad 3, then the first Air, then the 9.7 Pro, then went to the 10.5 pro, then went though the 2018/2020/2022 iPad Pro 11”s, now this is my first 13”. I also have a 4070 Legion laptop. And I do very little to no video editing. I’m all games and wanting to watch content on the best screen there is!

The thing I think about the keyboard, Apple made it so heavy ones they could’ve made it lighter they could do just about anything they want but I had one of the golden cherries from my iPad Pro 11. I got the new 13 inch same exact model that you did, but if the keyboard is too late, it wants to tip over for all the time so if you get that viewing back a little bit it tips off and I think apples cages know that so they didn’t. They didn’t make it too late they made it probably as heavy as they had to, so wouldn’t tip over.

    • @consumertechwarehouse9381
      @consumertechwarehouse9381  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

Yeah absolutely. But by the time the keyboard is on it’s no longer a thing and light device. And it still tips over. Later on in the video I cover that.

Performance on this m4 iPad is way better than the m1 one for gaming. I can play Genshin at max settings 120 fps with no stutter ever and the battery holds and it doesn’t get nearly as hot. The m1, I would do minimum graphics except 120fps and max resolution and would still get frame drops and slow loading. The OLED panel is just so much more efficient than the lcd one.
But like… don’t buy this unless your an artist

Strange that the trackpad wouldn’t expand a YT video for you as it works for me. I haven’t come across anything that wasn’t clickable.
The 2018+ models are all still good to go. I do wonder about the longevity of OLED and especially the nano-textured glass if people are writing/drawing on it every day.
I use my iPad every day. I will likely not upgrade my Mac Mini and instead just plug my iPad into my monitor. I realise I’m being charged a hefty premium for having both a basic laptop of sorts and a touchscreen, but no laptop compares when it comes to studying, for example. The ability to write and scribble on PDFs is a significant timesaver. Typing is quite clunky in comparison.
Of course for work, many will need a full desktop, so a laptop is the way to go - and we await to see how Apple changes the workflow with iPadOS 18.

PWM is terrible, making this ipad a bad choice for reading. I don't understand why the frequency is so low? Couldn't Apple have bumped the PWM frequency to > 400 Hz like Huawei does with its phones?

I’ll be keeping my M2 model for a while because it’s not a night and day difference to begin with. M4 is better, but by how much? And the nano glass takes away from the beauty of the screen. Save the $$$ and get an M2

Well, if you don't "work" on an iPad, get the standard iPad for $349 (or the iPad Air for $599) plus a $20 case which is actually great deal. Apple now sells iPads from $350 to $3,500. There is now an iPad for everyone, depending how much power, storage, screen and pencil you want or need. And somebody who does not want a tablet will buy a laptop anyway 😀

  • @PersonSuit
    @PersonSuit 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

With the way iPadOS is right now, you are 100% right that it is too expensive. There is nothing that can fully utilize the power of these new iPad Pros. Even the M1 iPadPro is still more power than people need for anything on iPadOS. Apple needs to announce something at WWDC to make this device worth the price. If they had a dual boot or hybrid OS to support Mac Apps then this thing would be perfect. It would fly off the shelves like hot cakes and I would order one right away. But as it stands its not really offering anything good enough to justify its price versus just getting an older M1 iPadPro for a fraction of the price.

I just upgraded to the M4 11inch… but it’s going back. Sure, the OLED screen is great, for lots of things - nice blacks, light parts shine, and some videos and photos look amazing. BUT, two things really annoy me, to the point I find them unacceptable. Firstly, the sound is actually slightly worse than on my 2018 iPad Pro - sounds like tiny speakers inside a tin can (a bit echoey and a bit muffled)… probably because they had to squeeze the speakers into a thinner body (which nobody asked for). Secondly, as a photographer, I don’t appreciate the stupidly rounded corners to the display… apart from losing a small bit of corner real estate, a standard full-frame DSLR photo now clips at every corner as it overlaps the curve - no more clean rectangular images. This is less “pro”… no pro photographer, videographer or designer needs curved corners - it makes zero sense. It was just about okay on the previous models (pro and not pro), but this is just stupid and annoying. Lastly, the extra thinness, once in a case, is irrelevant… and the weight difference is minimal… better to have left it the same (perfectly fine) thickness and squeezed in a larger battery (I can say that I don’t seem to be getting great battery life, but can’t be sure it’s worse than before). I do not know why all the reviews I’ve read ignore the corners issue - this is supposed to be a “pro” device, and those are anything but pro - or is it just me? BTW, the Magic Keyboard is great (if stupidly expensive), but removing the tablet when you want a tablet and not a laptop is too fiddly, especially if you want to transfer it into a case for protection… better to buy a MacBook Air. The MacBook Pro makes all the right design choices for professional users… the iPad Pro does the opposite.
