I bought some TMPS sensors from ebay for £70 when I put Oz wheels on my Abarth 124. Plug and play from Germany worked a treat. I notice they have crept up to £90 now. That was £70 for four not each lol. I kept the original wheels for a winter setup.
not all tyre pressure monitoring works from the wheel, some work from the hub and monitor the travelling radius over 2 points, if the pressure reduces so does the time it takes to travel a revolution which triggers the system - so in a nut shell not all people with a monitoring system have this same issue on swapping wheels.
Most work on sensors in the wheels usually but some cars monitor the tires with the ABS (Mokka’s up a 16 plate has the abs tpms ) - if you have sensors in the wheels, don’t use the gunk in a can (fix a flat) as A. It fouls up the sensor B. It makes a mess for the fitter C. Tire + sensor + clean up fee = a lot of money 💰

You can also get rebuild kits (new little o-ring gaskets etc..) for the tpms sensors. To avoid having to replace them in case of a leak when the batteries and sensors still worked fine. I've had this on a couple cars due to owners getting new tires. As they hadn't received new valve stems over the years as you normally would before tpms.
Greetings from Almaty, Kazakhstan. Well you learn something every day. A salutary lesson when veering away from the factory spec! I note that Micheldever Tyres are part of the Protyre group. I can vouch for their Exeter branch who have fitted many tyres to my vehicles - motorcycles and cars. A true quality and highly professional service.
Thank you I have just changed my wheels on my VW Rocco MOT due June 30th. Tyre pressure light was on on the way home. Getting 45 Pirellis with all weather and wheel rim guards put on tomorrow at Kwik Fit instead of budget / unknown make- 40s, currently on these replacement wheels. I couldn't go to 50's on my 18" wheels as it looked silly and may affect the turning on the inner wing. I will ask them to ensure tyre pressure sensors are on the new tyres and are talking to the car's computer. I didn't want to mess with things but this was due to hitting and denting my 19" wheels and skinny tyres to get out of the way for a racing ambulance - bounced up a kerb to let it through arggh!
Its also a good idea to record all the codes of the tire pressure sensors to each wheel. You can then program a new one if one is damaged or becomes faulty.
Interesting video! I didn't realise the TP sensors are in the valves! 😎👍 No wonder your old wheels sold so quick I bet the buyer was rubbing his hands together when he realised the sensors @ £75 each were also included 😯😁😊😎👍
Fortunately when I changed the wheels and tyres on my F57, the company that did the work (Elite Tyres and Wheels Rainham Essex) automatically removed the valves with the pressure sensors and put them in the new wheels so I didn’t have that issue... when I got into the car it told me I needed to reset tyre pressure and it took about 15 mins for them to reset as I drove home!
Can thoroughly recommend Micheldever Tyre Services. I started using them some 25 years ago when I was a service manager in a franchised dealer in Hertfordshire. My personal car had high performance metric tyres fitted that were very expensive. They managed to supply and fit the tyres for £100 less than my whole saler could supply them directly to me. I moved to France 8 years ago but still use them if a visit to the UK coincides with a tyre change. I didn't realise if the tyre pressure sensor system wasn't working it was an MOT failure.
Great video, don't feel bad about it. TPMS legislation was introduced for all new vehicles from nov 2014 and you wont be the only one caught out. You mentioned that if you do put aftermarket wheels on to remember to take out the sensors and put them into your new set. Top tip ... get your tyre service provider to make a note of the wheel locations that the original equipment sensors came out of and make sure they are put in the corresponding wheel locations for the new wheel set. For clarity if you took a sensor out of your front left wheel - make sure it is put back into the new front left wheel. This can avoid a diagnostic reset (on certain makes and models of vehicle) as effectively the car is looking for unique sensors specific to that wheel position. If anyone gets stuck, feel free to give us a shout (I-sensor is actually our product) as we provide TPMS support across the UK to professional tyre installers ..... Just like Damion, Chris and the indeed knowledgeable team at Protyre Micheldever station.
I would never have thought about the sensors myself and bet I’m not alone. Fortunately I’m not in any hurry to replace my wheels or tyres ;-) Great clip and honesty is the only policy so good on you for sharing.
Glad you got it sorted out. What with things like this and can bus electrics moding a car isn't what it used to be. However plug in chip tuning is pretty awesome so swings and roundabouts.
I remember, in the early 80's, dashboard gauges being reduced and more warning light's appearing on the dashboard. Journalist's at the time labelled them " Idiot Light's." There are so many idiot light's on dashboards nowadays that it is ridiculous. In a 2019 car you can have a perfect pressure in each tyre , but if a light on the dashboard does not come on, your car is deemed unroadworthy. That is insane.
Have used Micheldever for many years but last visit was a massive cock-up but their manager pulled it out the bag with 24 hours to go before a trip to France. Home visit with all tyres, fitted and balanced so back in the game. Prices are good too.
Thanks for the heads up. Any illuminated warning light is an MOT failure. I had a TT for years where an emissions lamp would illuminate for a few weeks then go out for a few months. Audi dealer could find no fault so I wasn’t bothered until the recent changes, took it in for MOT nervously with the same lamp lit only to later find out it had passed! The tester said the lamp was on when they drove it into the bay but when the test started the lamp went out! Pass! My 435i failed on tyres this week, 4 X 19” Pilot Sport 4S 💸
Great video and well worth pointing out the issue... It’s also worth noting that you should advise your insurance company of any modifications otherwise it can invalidate your insurance! ..... and we all know how insurers love a reason to wriggle out of paying up!!
Basically, if it's fitted, it has to work. By the way, years ago I took a car in for MOT... it failed because there was a chip in the windscreen. The guy told me as it was just inside the arc of the windscreen wipers it was classed as "inline of sight", hence the fail. I purchased a slightly shorter wiper, fitted it, took it back and it passed the MOT. 😂
You might not fail a current MOT for that as the wiper sweep is no longer a consideration, it's all at the discretion of the tester now and whether he or she feels it's in the driver's view.
@@Teribus13 This is true. Had an old e46 BM in for MOT has crack along the centre top about 12inches long. Thou not in drivers sight. Thought it would fail. Passed! MOT testers discretion.
Hey Pete, as always, thanks for revealing that tidbit of info. I've had a similar experience on my TL. Just wanted to say that I love your candor but also that you look tired! Please follow your own advice to take good care and get some rest! Everyone needs a break once in a while.
When I first saw the title of this vid, I was convinced you were going to say failed MOT due to emissions (your new 100 cell sports cat :D) Glad to hear you've got it sorted; I've got an R56MCS and will certainly think twice before replacing the wheels.
I must admit, until watching this I’d no idea how tyre pressure sensors worked. It would never have occurred to me to take out the sensors from the old tyres either. That’s probably a lesson learned for many of us.
Micheldever tyres are brilliant, I’ve been using them for the last 25+ years and have never had a problem apart from the odd cue. I always get my tracking checked there as they’re the best and check castor and camber as well as the tracking.
Just did a quick mooch around t'internet found Tyresonthedrive Pilot Sport 4 for my car are £123.99 Compared to Protyre £126.12 & I don't even have to drive there! They come to me, I am stoked, cheers Ped!
Nice vlog, enjoyed the reality! New cars r a pain in the arse, compared to older cars, this sort of thing is time consuming and annoying. MOT failure is a joke 🙄
Peter, I class myself as having a decent amount of mechanical knowledge, but I ordered a new set of alloys for my C Class recently, then read about tyre pressure sensors! Thought I'd dropped that clanger but luckily the sensors are part of the abs system on my car so they just needed a quick reset after a couple miles. Apparently metal tyre valves are usually wheel sensors. Great advice though. Cheers, Jon.
Wow that’s something I didn’t know I’ll pass it on to my son as he has different wheels and tyres for the summer and winter! Now that could be expensive! Thanks a very useful video.
Bad luck Peter and yet it is another useful lesson learned. It is something to think about if you get a set of wheels with winter tyres and swap them over for a few months...the sensor problems could arise unless you get matching electronically set up wheels. Something for all of us to file as useful information in the back of the mind. Anyway...all clear now and a year of enjoyment ahead!!!😎😎😎😎😎😎
I quite agree, if it’s malfunctioning then light is flashing or some other symbol, light on just lets you know your tyre pressure is low, pass and advise all day long.
Ha ha, sounds like Petrol pup is pumping your tyres up !! Big lesson though, I didn’t know that would be an MOT failure. Every day is a learning day for us all.
Wow, I didnt realise ! these modern times. None of my cars have such a thing, being pre 2007, apart from the Caterham which has nothing, but seems capable of passing MOT. Understand your frustration. Maybe the people who did the wheel /tyre mods should have mentioned this when they fitted them. Can`t believe it hasn`t happened to other folks. Yes, thumbs up to Micheldever Tyres. I live near them!!!
Usually the sensors in the wheel send a value in Bar/PSI to the computer. I recall the TPS on my R53 was something to do with the ECU monitoring wheel speed, the intention being that a flat tyre turned differently to a fully inflated one. I wondered if thats the same on the later models as your reset method was exactly what i had to do in my R53. Reset and drive to get a baseline. I swapped my wheels out too, genuine Mini but they had no sensors in them and the TPS reset just fine.
Cheers Pete, Just bought new rims for my R50 mini I'm pretty sure the tyre monitor is based on tyre circumstance on the r50 but thanks for the heads up I'll certainly check that is the case and not an in valve sensor now.
Spell check kicked in grrr, obviously I meant circumference. But thanks to the guy that confirmed there are no sensors on the valves. May the modifications continue.
What a PITA. Crazy! Does this apply to washer fluid warning lights? Sometimes it depends on the test centre. A few yrs ago a vehicle of mine failed because the drivers door card was missing so the internal handle was hanging loose! I didn't have the card, I needed the use of the vehicle, so I took it to another test station....they passed it! Thanks for sharing, a valuable learning experience for us all.
$75 pounds a piece? Your half way to a new set of tires, of course depends on what you buy. I’ve been considering changing my run flats on my mini. Sorry you had to take one for the team. Very grateful for all the information. Cheers. SoSCal
This is a strange one. I can't understand why the government would think motorists are incapable of measuring their own tyre pressure manually! Will certainly bear this in mind in the future - I'm sure this video will help a lot of people from unexpected MOT failures and save their pockets!
Harry It’s not the government who fitted the tyre sensor system, but for the MOT test a warning light, be it ABS, engine management, even EMPTY SCREEN WASH(I kid you not, my partner’s car was failed earlier this year for that!) will be a fail.
Ouch! Really interesting, been following your mods with interest, I didn’t realise any warning light was a fail, though obvious I guess. Glad all sorted.
Now I think about it its obvious but before the MOT I didn't give it a seconds thought. You will like Fridays video as I break down the exact cost of all the work I have had done 👍
Alright Pete, you're not a muppet it's simply something most people including myself wouldn't think off. It's just one of those things on modern cars which is very useful to have (tyre pressure monitor), however it's also one thing that makes me miss the good old days of motoring when everything was just mechanical no gizmos and crazy monitoring devices lol far too many electronics devices in cars now. Take care mate 👍🏁
This week, I almost had the same thing happen to me with my new wheels for my mini. Luckily I went in to a local tire shop and wanted a quote on tires for the new new alloy wheels and they said you will need to take the tire valves off the old wheels and put them on the new wheels before selling the others... Love my Clubman... Not yet in the league of your mods....
MOT's have become a joke, you fail an MOT for defective tyre pressure sensors but can pass an MOT with no sensors and under inflated tyres. Rip off Britain!
That’s a bummer Peter, still Ruby is sorted. We can all learn from your misfortune. Pooch is looking grand, just had ours done ( every four weeks) but definitely worth it. Catch you later Geof
@@PetrolPed i think they changed the TPMS to on the valves around the 2014, prior to that it worked on rotation. It was same with the BMW's, that changed around 2012-13. some of the decent tyre wholesalers actually add the TPMS into the cost of the tyres when you put your reg number into the website, as it knows you have the newer monitoring system
again tec we dont really need if you manually check your pressure you examine the wheel and tyer for damage much better than looking at 4 green lights these I think are lethal
Agreed. My car has TPMS, it's a pain in the arse, because I do check my tyres regularly. I've got metal valve caps on mine which everyone says "avoid them, they seize on" to which my reply is always "that must mean you don't look after your car properly". Never had a seized metal valve cap as I regularly check my pressures. Never had a failed locking wheel nut either, as I never use an ugga dugga gun on them, and only tighten them as much as needed (current car, 130Nm for the normal nuts, 110Nm for the lockers)
Petrol Ped , I saw that too but no. White with a black roof, picking up later today as Lohen have been doing other remedial work. Very excited. Watch out for pictures 😊👍🏻
I had same problem with BMW E36 318is with a supercharger. It cost me thousands to put right and I fell out of love with that car!!!! And sold it, big mistake. Anyway we live and learn.
A well known tyre dealer made a mess of the alignment on my company car, causing a full set to wear out in six months. One trip to Mitcheldever Tyres and I was made aware of Skoda factory bulletin declaring a fault on a batch of UK Octavias. I also had the alignment evidence to present to my fleet manager. I’m still a big fan over fifteen years later.
I had a similar problem with my Lexus pressure sensors. They’re £112 each from Lexus. So got a set of aftermarket TPMS cloned to match the original OEM sensor codes, for £45 each. I believe the MOT failure (for failed sensors) is only for cars made after 2012. Mine is older.
Bloody hell, I've never heard of this before, it's great that you've let others know the score. I thought that the MOT only picked up on Airbag warning lights and that was about it. I suppose the tyre pressure warning system is a (very handy) safety feature, but never knew that would be picked up on. This will be news and a big warning to lots of modifiers!!!
The low tyre warning system on MINI does not measure pressure and as such there is no sensor on the wheels or tyre valves, the system uses the ABS speed sensors to measure differences in rotational speeds of the wheels, differences in pressure give differential in rotational speeds. It can be triggered following a change of tyres or wheels and may take some distance to reset once the reset is activated. The system is explained in the owners manual supplied with every MINI and the online version of the owners manual.
Who knew? Fair play Peter for sharing this information. I mean who checks the small print for the MOT and Insurance before doing a mod? That would be like reading instructions...every day is a school day
Me encanto tu R59, las modificaciones están increíbles y de muy buen gusto, no le entendí a algunas pero me gustaría ponerlas también a mi R58, saludos !
Hello Pete, Thank you for sharing this issue and experience. It's not something you think would cause an issue. I too had a similar issue like this a year ago when my sensor came on and it was caused by a faulty sensor, Ford tried to tell me I had aftermarket tyres on the car and this was the cause. (they came with the car from new) so I was lucky never had to pay anything. I think you can buy the sensors cheaper than £75 if you program them yourself. To be honest, I was half expecting you to say the car failed on emissions.
Yep any warning lights on dash after car is started is a fail nowadays. But I'm thinking the system must use bluetooth to synch no? If it does a cheaper option as a get you through would have been some of the valve cap pressure sensors that are now available - not that expensive from the onlime sale/auction site. But to be honest, you have done it the right way albeit expensive.
Depends on the sensor, but Direct TPMS (the most common now) uses UHF radio at 433Mhz in the EU, and other parts of the world use different frequencies. Bluetooth can interfere with the TPMS as can other similar devices like cordless phones. Indirect TPMS which uses the ABS system isn't prone to interference but also have their own headaches. These sensors can dump a lot of information out (ID, serial, tyre pressure, temperature and more) and need a specialised reader to pull that info to reset/install them. Note that's not the same as the reset you'd use when put air into the tyre but a diagnostics reset.
Happens, I didhave the new in the rim valves installed in mine, but I did not even think of a chance of buying valves without sensors. How do u even get those nowadays. Should not they just install what suit your car?
I have bought new wheels for my Mustang, and bought new TPS from Ford, very cheap!! Really, like a tenner each. Now i need to let the car learn the new sensors. I personally think it's all a load of bollox. Overcomplicated modern car tech that will eventually cause us to scrap the cat because it costs so much to sort out when the car is worth peanuts.
Nice one for the warning ⚠️. I was going to put some aftermarket wheels on my Mini but now I’ll do more research. Thanks fella, sorry for the extra expense 💋
Only if you have a tyre pressure sensor thats not working do you get an mot fail. No pressure sensor=no problem. That seems like an un-level playing field. Basically, all your warning lights must be working. If you have them lol
Also reverse lights are included fairly new addition, best to check dvla for listing as it possible that the test is updated good video, be a problem if they decided to use the commercial truck mot test (that's tuff)
Good that you admitted your mistake. But .... you are closer to cars than most of us subscribers. But I have 3 cars and know how much effort it takes to keep them running especially if you're also making improvements as well. Planning my Giulia QV wheel and tyre change took weeks of research. Edit: I left tyre pressure monitors in my old wheels as I was worried about wheel balancing as I wanted to reuse them in the future
hi Ped no not a muppet, i think anyone would do what you did, but at least you owned up that that you messed up, and made a video to let others know, well done.
Problem with that is the same as blanking (or blacking)out the airbag light, where If the tester knows the car should have the system then he can fail it, the same with de-catting, aiui the mot computer now prompts the tester to check for physical presence of cat where the VIN number (input at the start of every mot) shows the car was so equipped in production.
Very interesting and a cautionary tale for all. Personally, I rely on the MK10 right foot for tyre pressure sensing on my VW T4. Very few electronic gizmos to worry about.
Glad to watch that you’ve sorted out the issue and thank you for bringing this to our attention. Must admit it is not something I have ever thought about with regards to the MOT. Got me thinking now as I’ve changed all the bulbs in my car for new LED ones much brighter etc and it’s got me thinking as this is also a modification I might fail the MOT. Hope not.

Here in Nordic countries, avoid TPS. The problem is salt and then rust in the system. It's a expensive failure.
Great video Pete, you live and learn,at least you got it sorted.👌😀
Indeed, and now more annoying light on the dash 😂
Great info and i'm sure this will help others. Every days a school day eh!!! Glad Ruby passed in the end.
That is why I put the video out there and braced myself for the insults 😜😂😂
If anyone gets stuck, feel free to give us a shout (I-sensor is actually our product) as we provide TPMS support across the UK to professional tyre installers
..... Just like Damion, Chris and the indeed knowledgeable team at Protyre Micheldever station.
Thanks for this. Very interesting and helpful 👍
So what about rotating wheels/tyres to even out wear?
I would never have thought about the sensors myself and bet I’m not alone. Fortunately I’m not in any hurry to replace my wheels or tyres ;-) Great clip and honesty is the only policy so good on you for sharing.
I don't think we are alone 😂
No wonder your old OEM wheels sold so quickly. The buyer saw you had the tpms still fitted and thought kaching!
Yep...mad 😪
Just find a guy with a laptop and have them deleted.
@@MrJimbaloid thing is, if it was fitted as new, it has to be there and working. If it's missing, that's also an MOT fail.
Indeed 👍
Well I never knew that Peter glad you got it sorted even if you are a few quid poorer 👍
Just one of those things 👍
Basically, if it's fitted, it has to work.
By the way, years ago I took a car in for MOT... it failed because there was a chip in the windscreen. The guy told me as it was just inside the arc of the windscreen wipers it was classed as "inline of sight", hence the fail. I purchased a slightly shorter wiper, fitted it, took it back and it passed the MOT. 😂
Did that wit my Mk2 MX5, result!
@Driftwannabe 10 Nice one mate!
@@shadgrind Perfect... the laws are ridiculous. 👍
You might not fail a current MOT for that as the wiper sweep is no longer a consideration, it's all at the discretion of the tester now and whether he or she feels it's in the driver's view.
@@Teribus13
This is true.
Thanks for you concern. It had been a long day 😜😂
When I first saw the title of this vid, I was convinced you were going to say failed MOT due to emissions (your new 100 cell sports cat :D) Glad to hear you've got it sorted; I've got an R56MCS and will certainly think twice before replacing the wheels.
No probs with killing polar bears 😜😂👍
I must admit, until watching this I’d no idea how tyre pressure sensors worked. It would never have occurred to me to take out the sensors from the old tyres either. That’s probably a lesson learned for many of us.
I didn't really know either. Hopefully I have helped a little education 👍
Micheldever tyres are brilliant, I’ve been using them for the last 25+ years and have never had a problem apart from the odd cue. I always get my tracking checked there as they’re the best and check castor and camber as well as the tracking.
Amazing .!!! But its okay to drive a wreck that takes an age to stop, wheels hanging off, but faulty pressure gauge.!!! Really.!! Great vid guys xx
Glad you got sorted and good information! Thanks
My pleasure. All sorted now so no big deal 👍
Thanks so much for the top information. Just bought myself a roadster and needed this info. 👍🏻 keep up the good work and interesting content
No worries 😉
Just did a quick mooch around t'internet found Tyresonthedrive Pilot Sport 4 for my car are £123.99 Compared to Protyre £126.12 & I don't even have to drive there! They come to me, I am stoked, cheers Ped!
Nice vlog, enjoyed the reality! New cars r a pain in the arse, compared to older cars, this sort of thing is time consuming and annoying. MOT failure is a joke 🙄
I couldn't agree more 😜😂
Peter, I class myself as having a decent amount of mechanical knowledge, but I ordered a new set of alloys for my C Class recently, then read about tyre pressure sensors! Thought I'd dropped that clanger but luckily the sensors are part of the abs system on my car so they just needed a quick reset after a couple miles. Apparently metal tyre valves are usually wheel sensors. Great advice though. Cheers, Jon.
Yep. I’d hoped mine were like that but they weren’t 😢
The more electronics on cars the more they fail MOTs
Wow that’s something I didn’t know I’ll pass it on to my son as he has different wheels and tyres for the summer and winter! Now that could be expensive! Thanks a very useful video.
Cheers 👍
Bad luck Peter and yet it is another useful lesson learned. It is something to think about if you get a set of wheels with winter tyres and swap them over for a few months...the sensor problems could arise unless you get matching electronically set up wheels. Something for all of us to file as useful information in the back of the mind. Anyway...all clear now and a year of enjoyment ahead!!!😎😎😎😎😎😎
Exactly. All sorted and a great excuse to make a video 😂
I would of advised it as it’s not inoperative and it’s not malfunctioning the lights on to say the pressure is low
I quite agree, if it’s malfunctioning then light is flashing or some other symbol, light on just lets you know your tyre pressure is low, pass and advise all day long.
Lovely little hound!!
Ha ha, sounds like Petrol pup is pumping your tyres up !!
Big lesson though, I didn’t know that would be an MOT failure. Every day is a learning day for us all.
It sure is 👏
Wow, I didnt realise ! these modern times. None of my cars have such a thing, being pre 2007, apart from the Caterham which has nothing, but seems capable of passing MOT. Understand your frustration. Maybe the people who did the wheel
/tyre mods should have mentioned this when they fitted them. Can`t believe it hasn`t happened to other folks. Yes, thumbs up to Micheldever Tyres. I live near them!!!
Just one of those things...easy to overlook 😪
Surprises me a Caterham gets through the test 😂😂😂
our Mini is also Ruby - really love the new tires!
Great name 👍
@@PetrolPed thanks and yeah it is a great name :) ours is just the F56 with 102 HP; no mods, but next year she will get some :-D
The R50/53 doesn’t have valve sensors 👍
At least I made you question it 👍
Spell check kicked in grrr, obviously I meant circumference.
Well who knew that could be an issue? Glad you've got it sorted.
Anyone with a brain.
@@Jabber-ig3iw everyone loves a smart arse.
$75 pounds a piece? Your half way to a new set of tires, of course depends on what you buy. I’ve been considering changing my run flats on my mini. Sorry you had to take one for the team. Very grateful for all the information. Cheers. SoSCal
I know, not cheap ! I can't recommend changing run flats for decent tyres enough. THE best mod you can do to the car. Totally transforms the drive 👍
Ah...that would be why I spotted you leaving said MOT garage last Friday at 5pm. Glad you got it sorted.
Yep...got there at 0830 😂😂😂
This is a strange one. I can't understand why the government would think motorists are incapable of measuring their own tyre pressure manually! Will certainly bear this in mind in the future - I'm sure this video will help a lot of people from unexpected MOT failures and save their pockets!
Let's hope so. That is why I made it even though it makes me look like a muppet 😂
Good you have gotten that sorted out. Now get on to thrashing the road!!!!
Oh yes...I'll certainly be doing that 👍
Alright Pete, you're not a muppet it's simply something most people including myself wouldn't think off.
A quick look at each tyre before you drove off used to do the trick 😂
Brilliantly informative 👍🏼
Ped, you're just MEGA ❤❤❤
Why thank you 🙏
Love the dog! Thanks for the tip with this... Very good info to know!
Catch you later
Geof
Love them when they've just been clipped 😍
this is on the later mini's i guess as the earlier R56-R61 models work on rotation of tyre and not TPMS.
My Mini is an R59 🤔
@@PetrolPed i think they changed the TPMS to on the valves around the 2014, prior to that it worked on rotation. It was same with the BMW's, that changed around 2012-13. some of the decent tyre wholesalers actually add the TPMS into the cost of the tyres when you put your reg number into the website, as it knows you have the newer monitoring system
again tec we dont really need if you manually check your pressure you examine the wheel and tyer for damage much better than looking at 4 green lights these I think are lethal
Agreed, you could be driving around wit cuts in the tyres, bulges from kerbing blissfully unaware, check your tyres once a week people!
Glad you got Ruby sorted, great and informative video. My MINI (Lucky) is as I type at Lohen thanks to you fella for a stage two tune!
Is she a black R56 ? Have a PP2 and rear diffuser ?
If so I saw her on Insta today 👏
They have that effect 👏
Bloody hell I never knew that I won’t lie damn! No TPS means failure wow! Glad you’ve sorted though and great to share.
News to me too 😮
Petrol Ped couldn’t believe it
Thank you it's something l did not know very helpful 👍
👍
I had a similar problem with my Lexus pressure sensors. They’re £112 each from Lexus. So got a set of aftermarket TPMS cloned to match the original OEM sensor codes, for £45 each. I believe the MOT failure (for failed sensors) is only for cars made after 2012. Mine is older.
Squeaky toy 🤣🤣
Very informative video. Would have never realised it was an MOT failure? I just assumed the TPM was a nice to have.
Me too 😂
Sorry not a car related comment but
Slick delivery, you should be on TV 👍 nice and fluid, no sloppy edits
Cheers Paul. You never know 😜👍
Vey good to see you putting this info out here Peter,
Cheers Roger 👍
Bloody hell, I've never heard of this before, it's great that you've let others know the score. I thought that the MOT only picked up on Airbag warning lights and that was about it. I suppose the tyre pressure warning system is a (very handy) safety feature, but never knew that would be picked up on. This will be news and a big warning to lots of modifiers!!!
That's why I made the video 👍
That would be like reading instructions...every day is a school day
Instructions...what are they ? 🤔
My pleasure mate 👍
Yep any warning lights on dash after car is started is a fail nowadays. But I'm thinking the system must use bluetooth to synch no? If it does a cheaper option as a get you through would have been some of the valve cap pressure sensors that are now available - not that expensive from the onlime sale/auction site. But to be honest, you have done it the right way albeit expensive.
It does indeed use Bluetooth as far as I am aware. I had to get this sorted on the day and this was the only option I had 😪
Respect for this oversight being made public and therefore educating others, but driving to Micheldever from Chichester, without a valid MOT......
After getting the OK to do it from my MOT tester 👍
I am pleased you got your car sorted out. very informative thanks for sharing
My pleasure. Hope it helps someone 👍
I used to work for micheldever wholesale, they were also a great employer👍
They sure are 👍
Thanks for the video Pete! Currently looking at upgrading my alloys and hadn't thought about my tpms will definitely be doing a bit more research!
That's great. The reason I made this video 👍
Nice one for the warning ⚠️. I was going to put some aftermarket wheels on my Mini but now I’ll do more research. Thanks fella, sorry for the extra expense 💋
I'm just pleased to give people the heads up 👍
Only if you have a tyre pressure sensor thats not working do you get an mot fail. No pressure sensor=no problem. That seems like an un-level playing field. Basically, all your warning lights must be working. If you have them lol
Glad you got it sorted and pup was happy.
The Pup was happy as she got into the video 😂
Just one of those things that slipped through the net 😪
hi Ped no not a muppet, i think anyone would do what you did, but at least you owned up that that you messed up, and made a video to let others know, well done.
The first tire pressure sensor issue I had, the garage offered to switch them off!
Well worth knowing, thanks young lad.
My pleasure 👍
Very interesting and a cautionary tale for all. Personally, I rely on the MK10 right foot for tyre pressure sensing on my VW T4. Very few electronic gizmos to worry about.
😂😂😂
Glad to watch that you’ve sorted out the issue and thank you for bringing this to our attention. Must admit it is not something I have ever thought about with regards to the MOT. Got me thinking now as I’ve changed all the bulbs in my car for new LED ones much brighter etc and it’s got me thinking as this is also a modification I might fail the MOT. Hope not.
It would only be a fail if they didn't work 😜
My friend had exactly the same thing happen with his Range Rover Peter. What a pain in the backside !! But at least it's now sorted.
It is indeed 👍
