    Best car for reliability and long term ownership on the market. NO TURBO and NO Hybrid - if you want a car that you plan on keeping! No one can work on hybrids other than the dealer. Turbo’ed vehicle gas mileage is terrible because people can’t keep their foot out of the turbo! I have one XLE and have ordered a second! Best all around vehicle if you plan on keeping and you will be able to find parts for it and your local mechanic will be able to work on it. XLE with ALL options is $33k. Love, love love it!

    This is going to sell in stupid numbers, Toyota read the market perfectly.
    I really appreciate that Toyota is showing the base trim instead of only the top trim. I wish more automakers did that. It says a lot about their confidence in the value proposition.

      Totally agree with a review of the base model. So many reviewers are always testing the highest spec. Which brings that car up to close to $30,000 and at that point I'd be looking at a different car.

    I'd prefer the corolla hatchback over any corolla in the lineup. But this Crossover has a lot going for it. Just remember that the Nissan Rogue has been a thing and People liked it and a lot of them were sold spite the problems that they can have with their transmission given Nissan's bad repetition for their CVTs. And this corolla cross won't have that since it's the same transmission that they have been using in the regular corolla and they didn't have any problems. And the corolla cross is cheaper than the rogue too. It is very tempting option for a cheap small SUV.

    I like the detailed review which shows me more about the controls interface. I have watched many reviews online and none of them talk in more detail about a towing package and what it is like and any costs. I have checked toyota's build site and I do not see it. Generally, I would use it to transport dirt or gravel and a lawn tractor. I did hear it tows 1500 pounds. At this point it is new and there are barely any Toyota cross vehicles at the dealerships. I will have to wait a few years as there are more out there.

    • @kaitlyndasie5459
      @kaitlyndasie5459 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnnguyen0721 we have loads of trunk space. i mean it’s not going to fit like a 10 foot real tree lol or anything like that but it has more then enough space for what i need. ive got my riding tack box in it right now and we still have room to spare. when it comes to speeding up on freeways i haven’t had a problem with it as of yet. i’m in california and there is a lot of road traffic but i’ve had absolutely no issue with it in that way. it’s a car that is very sensitive to the driver. if your a driver who wants get up and go and want to speed in and out of traffic it’s not for u lol but if u want an extremely safe car that takes care of the driver no matter what then it is the perfect car. it’s already saved me 2x in the last few months that i could have been killed or killed someone else. the first time i had just gotten the car like an hour before and i was sitting at a light so i was still getting used to it and all of a sudden all the alarm things in the car started going off. just when i was about to go and out of nowhere a car ran thru the red light and barely missed me. if i hadn’t stopped because i was trying to figure out what was going on i would have been hit. the other time a person on a bike decided to bike thru a read light and decided to go right in front of me cause people are stupid and the emergency break kicked in. it’s a very safe car in a lot of ways

    @peterrijos3810 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The misconcepted 4 cylinder power lag no one knows the key, the only way you get power out of these engines it’s like operating a roller coaster you have to gradually increase the gas pedal like a roller coaster going up a big hill and you gradually press down the brake pedal like your going down a big hill with the roller coaster, that’s the proper way you drive a car in general if you want it to last, but you can not just put the gas down remember you need air the more graduated air in the engine the more power that is going to be created.

    Wow very thorough review. I just discovered this car online this morning. I’ve actually been shopping around for a 2022 RAV4 XLE. I had a leased RAV4 back in 05-2010 and loved it. Been in 2 used cars since, currently an 05 Acura TL fully loaded and it’s an amazing car, runs great.
    The other day I test drove a 2019 RAV4 XLE hybrid since the dealers have zero new ones on the lot. I was surprised at how much bigger the RAV4 is since I last drove one. I thought I’d love being higher up since my Acura is so low. I am 63 and felt a bit awkward , too high up like I was driving a much larger SUV. I was overwhelmed with all the panels and features. I actually felt anxious. I thought the cabin was noisier than I recall, like air was coming in even though the windows were all up !
    So fast forward to today while at a different dealer, again looking at RAV4 (gas model), I was also shown a Corolla Cross. It was a much better fit for me and a tad lower and reminded me of my 05 RAV4 . The problem is I can’t test drive one. If I put down a deposit they can order it and I’m not obligated to buy it when it comes in 4-6 months. So that’s an option. I did drive a friends regular Corolla once years ago and it really handled nicely.
    I’m just not sure what to do. It’s so stressful and doesn’t feel as exciting like when I bought a new car in the past. Toyota was always a step up (drove a few Camrys 88-98) but my Acura has a lot of bells and whistles and real leather seats (not impressed with soft-tec)
    Sorry I’m all over the place with my thought process. I live in Massachusetts and we get a ton of snow and the Acura isn’t great in snow. I’m wondering (and leanings towards) if I should go w the Corolla Cross instead of the RAV4 or would you recommend another brand smaller SUV ? Thx !

    • @CarCoachReports
      @CarCoachReports  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I understand the confusion. I would wait if you can, buy winter tires to be safer on the roads. More cars are coming to dealers slowly. Test drive one first and see if there is enough power, seating comfort and handling to your liking. Then you can order one with an incentive. Dealers are taking advantage of people who are in need. Wait if you can. You won’t have buyers remorse.

    • @mariesprowl2348
      @mariesprowl2348 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarCoachReports I’m thinking of waiting. Do you feel the dealers will have more new cars on the lot to test drive? Even an order is around 4 + months and I’m being told I’m not obligated to take it. They don’t even do all the sales , finance or trade in stuff till customer decides if they want it. Thx 😊

      Hi Marie, You are the first person who described exactly how I felt in the Rav. I just didn't know the words for it. You said it! I felt anxious. It super odd as I hav been driving a Tacoma 4x4 so I am used to a large vehicle, but the Rav was just too overwhelming to me. Of course we are all different, but the Rav's driver's seat did work for me as well. I had rented one recently for the weekend. So, yesterday I actually bought a Corolla Cross XLT, and LOVE it!! I went through my credit union's car buyer, and I'll be honest. I had never even test drove it. Btw, I am a 6' tall gal. if that helps. My sweet mom is 5'4, and not comfortable though. the passenger seat does not go up/down like a Lexus. Now I am looking into how to raise the seat if possible. The cushions today were a big pain, but we will keep trying.

    Very Nice Detailed Review....some questions....i heard there is no height adjustment on Driver Seat..and at higher speeds there is a lot of engine Noise especially on highway..is this True ?...keyfob looks Cheap material and also the push Buttons on the steering wheel looks cheap.....No fog lights unless you get the XLE...fog lights nowadays is a must if its a SUV especially.....if im going to make a purchase do i really need to spend extra 1500 dollars on AWD ? I am in canada and it snows but im in the city area....AWD is not expensive to buy but during summer time AWD will use a bit more gas even tho no use of AWD in summer time...Info Display screen doesnt look premium Resolution its Dull on colours and brightness....to close the trunk is there a button and if yes on which trim Level it has a button.....toyota website is confusing and doesnt show clear comparison....Thank you for posting a Review....i must Compliment you that You are Really Pretty...Merry Christmas

    Hi- I agree that the backup camera should be able to provide good color balance and exceptional clarity to enhance occupant safety. And that category should never be compromised. But I don't know about the others charging up on their safety features as mentioned. What I do know is the Kia's Seltos EX trim (which is compatible to the Corolla Cross LE) gives the buyer standard AWD as AWD is standard on all Seltos levels and in addition, 3-way Front heated seats are also standard. And lastly, there's standard Memory seat position settings for at least the driver, if not both frontal seats. Also, worth mentioning is the outside mirrors power themselves close to the car whenever the ignition is turned off. That's essential when a car is often parked between others, oh yessss. Oh! and I forgot the infotainment screen is a Big 10 inches on the Seltos EX -- while the Cross's next and highest level XLE only offers a mere 8" one. I believe that that's what Lauren had mentioned too.

I follow the laws and am NOT a sports car driver so power doesn't impress me anyway. I was a reliable, practical car with a good stereo and room to carry stuff and my family. There is a lot of promo for AWD vehicles. Just to point out here, if you are a sane driver FWD with good 4 season or snow tires will do you just fine. You can have 4 wheel drive or six wheel drive if the rubber won't stick it won't mater. If you drive over uneven surfaces where one drive wheel will lose contact with the ground then it makes sense to have more then two driving wheels.

      So true! I used to drive a Camaro through the winter with snow tires. It was a wild ride that taught you car control. Sadly, no one teaches people to drive any longer, they teach them to pass the test, at least here in North America.

    Only wish I can see is that there should be more torque at low to mid RPM for better acceleration/safer passing of slower vehicles left of centre line, power seats on front passenger seat, up and down adjustable lumbar support on driver's seat, driver's seat memory and power folding mirrors at least on the XLE trim. All vehicles should come with an under hood blanket/sound insulator as added on the 2nd year (2020) of the current Rav4 generation. I will be looking at this when I need to replace my 17 year old Corolla that is still driving like new. So I just saw one at the dealership today. Not allowed to drive it due to Covid. I'm 5'10" tall and with winter boots on with a slight 1/2" sole, my head would touch the rear liftgate when opened. I will now look more at getting the Rav4 because I do not want to slouch everytime the liftgate is open and I will likely forget from time to time and hit my head.

      Toyota CVT reliability has been better than other manufacturers. However, it has been reported that in city driving, the power and acceleration is adequate but is lacking when accelerating to highway speed and when passing a vehicle left of the center line. Also when doing these moderate to hard accelerations, it is quite loud with a whiney sound due to the CVT and especially the lack of torque and horsepower.

    Rav was once this size & smaller.
    Current RAV4, fits family of 4, mid to moderate suv use.
    The Rave is now the size of previous Highlander.
    Toyota often moves the size up so previous owners can buy more vehicle & remain brand loyal.
    Then Toyota slides in a new name plate to fill the smaller gap.
    If the new size is not successful, they drop that name.

    I'm having to get rid of my 2018 Prius as the passenger seat is so horribly uncomfortable, my wife won't go in it with me. We had Pont Vibes(same as Toyota Matix) before and their seats were fine. Prius passenger seat is 2" lower to the floor than the Vibe and has horrible bucket hole in it. How does this passenger seat compare? Tho the driver gets power lumbar and other controls, does front passenger seat have manual height and lumbar adjustments? We tried a 2020 Rav4 (we don't need the extra size, weight, and expense) and its passenger seat was better, being higher with not such a deep bucket. Incredible that Toyota could make millions of Priuses with horrible ft passenger seats, but they do. Can you please speak in detail to the ft. passenger seat of this Corolla Cross? Thanks. Two major categories that are conspicuous by their absence are the ride quality and the NVH levels; how were those aspects of the vehicle and how does it compare to its competition (e.g. Subaru CrossTrek and Mazda CX-30) in them?

    • @catbirdler
      @catbirdler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Having test driven all three, I would say that the Mazda is the winner in both categories, followed by the Cross and then the Crosstrek for ride comfort. I bought the Cross XLE in December and find the seats very supportive and comfortable, with the 10-way adjustable driver's seat super customizable. Road noise in city driving is acceptable, even on the quiet side compared with some other cars in this class, with levels higher on the highway, but still not annoying, at least not for me and with no vibration that I could tell.

    • @sammyt3514
      @sammyt3514 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@catbirdler Thanks for your feedback. Interesting that you found the CX-30 to have a better ride than the Crosstrek; Consumer Reports thought the opposite. • @catbirdler
      @catbirdler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sammyt3514 Hey, I saw your comments on Motormouth's channel (Zack and Andrea) lol! Sometimes I think that Consumer Reports are looking for very specific things that may not resonate with me personally. All I can give you is my own (and very subjective) opinion. To me, the Crosstrek felt like driving a larger sedan, nice and solid, but the seats weren't anything special, and I'm very picky abut seat comfort. The Mazda's interior felt more upscale and plush which may have contributed to the better rating. I also found the dashboard a bit too fussy for my taste. I *love* the quiet, reserved simplicity of the Cross's dashboard and matte-surfaced steering wheel, and the very limited presence of chrome and shine. And the larger, airier cargo area was exactly what I was looking for. Everyone's needs and tastes are different. The Cross _is_ noisier than the Crosstrek (though the XLE has a layer of soundproofing under the hood which does help) though you won't really notice it unless you're at highway speeds. I don't care about it but I know this is a dealbreaker for some.
      You should know that I was a loyal Subaru fan prior to this purchase as my previous car was a Subaru Outback wagon which I had for the past 15 years with nearly 200,000 miles on it, but totaled it in a bad rainstorm in Vermont a few months ago (and walked away from the wreck with barely a scratch, so thank you Subaru!). I really wanted to love the Crosstrek but it just didn't hit all the right notes for me. I'm curious to know what you decide to get in the end and the reasons for your choice. Keep me posted!

      I test drove both. The Mazda has more surefooted handling and is a peppier ride but the cargo area feels cramped and compressed compared to the Toyota. The Toyota is still quite nimble without feeling too light. The Mazda's interior feels more luxurious but lacks a touchscreen (the screen is operated by a rotary dial on the center console behind the gearshift) which is a dealbreaker for some. I suppose you can view the Mazda as more sleek and sophisticated while the Toyota is an airier, taller and slightly more practical vehicle that is still visually quite attractive and well-balanced. Hope this helps!
      Edit: I bought the Corolla Cross XLE and just love the car. No regrets after a month of driving. I've done three 400+ mile trips and the adaptive cruise with lane keeping was super smooth on straight highways and gentle curves and works very well within certain parameters. The interior is roomy and comfortable. Lots of little nice features that I'm still discovering. All in all a great car packed with a lot of great features.
