Great video. One minor thing...never use a torque wrench to break bolts loose. You mess up the calibration and basically make your torque wrench useless.
I rode to Daytona from Orlando and back today. It was only 120 miles but I really noticed a big improvement over stock. No bottoming out when crossing railway tracks, much better handling when cornering. I’m a happy camper. Thanks for watching.
They are basically the same shock. The only thing that I could see that Harley had changed was the bracket for the remote reservoirs. The Screamin eagle ones are more to the side, away from the docking hardware for mounting a detachable tour pack or backrest.
@@SNOWBIRDBIKER they're seem to be different in the springs, the ohlins SE has progressive springs and the ohlins hd044 has the linear springs. But I don't know which is better spring
Rick, I just re-read the instructions. Actually it did not specify. It did say red for the spacers in the bracket. Lol, I used blue there. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best. Cal
Hey Snowbird have a question for you. I just installed a set of these and I am not able to get any sag out of the shocks. Even with no preload I get maybe 1/2 inch sag. If i set them at 10 mm per the instruction sheet I get no sag at all and it rides like a brick. How much sag do you get when you are sitting on the bike and how many mm of pre load do you have set for your weight? Thanks Mike
Hey Mike. It’s been a few months since I installed those shocks. They are on my bike in Florida and I’m now in Canada, so I’m going on my memory. Lol, which isn’t always the best. I adjusted the preload as per instructions at 10 mm, and had about 1 inch of sag. I set my rebound dampening at 12 clicks past zero. I set my compression dampening at approximately the half way point between the soft and hard settings. The shocks are excellent. After installing them I rode from Florida to Chicago, then took Route 66 to California and back to Florida on i10. It was a comfortable 8,000 ride. The only change I made was moving the compression dampening to a softer setting. I don’t know what could be causing your problem. I wish I could be more help.
Have you had any issues with discoloring braided lines? I’m on my second set and both have started to discolor almost looking like oil has leaked into the braided lines under the plastic. I am highly disappointed with the shocks and regret spending the money. My bike is garage kept so there should be no reason for it. 🚮🗑️
If you’re considering buying these, DON’T, trash product DO NOT buy. Go with something else. I’ve gone through two sets, both of them had the cables discolor (rust) within a few months. My bike is garage kept and not left in the elements. Trust me, if you work hard for your cash, you do not want to spend it on these shocks. Oh yeah, and Harley and Ohlins told me to kick rocks… Hate to be negative on here, but I have to be honest
@@Ride2CastGabe, As I said in a previous response, I have not had a problem with discolouration of the lines. My bike gets a lot of miles and when I’m on the road, I don’t use a bike cover. I wash it with automotive soap and water. I don’t use products that have harsh chemicals. I know several people locally with these shocks and no one, including those commenting on my videos have reported a problem, other than you. I don’t receive any compensation from either Ohlins or Harley. I and thousands of others have found them to be great shocks. Your situation seems to be unique.
I couldn’t find black spacers so I just re-used the chrome ones. I installed the Hold Fast docking hardware from Harley. www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/holdfast-docking-hardware-kit-gloss-black/p/52300646
I guess the install took about an hour. It’s not difficult. Later I played with the adjustment settings, and test rode the bike to get the ride how I liked it. There’s a really rough railway crossing near my house. Lol, I kept riding back and forth over it. Good luck with the install. I recently rode from Orlando to Chicago. Then rode Route 66 to California and took i10 back. It was over 7,000 miles. Those shocks made it a much more comfortable ride.
I have two questions. It's 22 fltrxs. I weigh 80kg Sometimes I wear tour packs and do tandem with my wife. My wife weighs 60 kilograms. How can I adjust the suspension? You need two adjustments when you're driving alone and when you're calm. The spring is a step from when the screw is not visible.. How many steps should I release from the bottom dial and reservoir dial when it is hard locked?
@@cameronbartley6139 Cameron, I can’t remember. My bike is in Florida and I’m in Canada until the end of the month, so I can’t go look at it to refresh my memory. If there were washers included with the new shocks or if there were washers on the old shocks with instructions to reuse them, I would have. However, I did not add anything on my own. I followed the instructions exactly.

Thank you for your comment. You are correct, I shouldn’t have. Fortunately, my torque wrench survived!!
Thank you for the video. I wasn’t quite sure what wrench I needed to remove the torx bolt on the strut. But I enjoyed the whole video.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for commenting.
I'm going to invent a long necklace that dispenses red and blue Loctite, so its always handy. :)
i put them on my 2022 street glide st , very easy to put on , wow totally made the bike handle like a dream , you wont go wrong with them
Yes, it’s a totally different bike. Thanks for watching.
Interesting... look forward to the set-up/tuning next week!!
Great video. I’m getting ready to install mine on a 22 RG
Thank you. Good luck with the installation. You’ll notice a big improvement in the ride and handling.
Good job Cal. I hope they work well for you.

How this ohlins SE compare to the ohlins hd044 (the gold one)??

Did it call for RED Loctite for the shocks? I would have gone blue. knowing I could remove easy if needed.

Will be interested in seeing your installation and thoughts. Years ago I installed an air ride system from Legends and love it.
Great job - thanks, how old are you if you don't mind ...?
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m 76. I did that video a couple of years ago, so I was 74 at the time.

Could you use a washer on the bottom mounting bolt on the inside

awsome video
Thank you.
