      I'm pretty sure you can't drive this at the age of 14 in the uk .... and you need a full motor bike licence to drive any microcar in the uk.

    • @robertcasey966

      I've just Google it...You will need the AM category on your driving licence, this covers light quadricycles (weighing under 350kg with a top speed of 45km/h - about 28mph). To get one you need to be over 16, have a provisional licence and pass the CBT, a theory test and a practical test.

    My French mates are embarrassed by des Voitures Sans Permis, but I've always thought these things are amazing. If I were sixteen, I would absolutely treasure something like this. I do hope they become the future of transport, mainly because as a car enthusiast I want to see the end of this craze for off-roaders that can't go off-road and are boring to drive.

    • @Electroheads
      @Electroheads  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Absolutely. By far the biggest danger on our roads are oversized cars, yet people are worried about these. It's amazing the logic leaps people perform so that they can convince themselves it's ok to break the speed limit in a city centre in an SUV, but a 16 year old driving a quadricycle at 20mph is a danger to public safety.

    Willing to bet though that the government will not give it the Quadracycle and will treat it like another car even though as a Quadracycle it doesn't meet the minimum specs that the government define a car as.
    It would cost around £5400 going of the pricing in France where you can lease one at around £18 a month with a deposit of approx £2000. These things would also be ideal if you live in a rural area and have a 3 to 19 mile trip into town and you don't want or need a ICE car.

    €20/mth are you sure? So 25 yrs to cover €6K?
    These for hire in cities is a neat idea but too limited for much else. A long term plan to combat emissions should revolve around vehicles that spend very little time with the handbrake on. At least for city cars. Out in the sticks the car can be a big battery to store free electricity for the house from the super efficient windmills and solar panels we’ll be getting. That’s my manifesto if I ever run for anything!

  • @8bitkid408
    @8bitkid408 ปีที่แล้ว

    Considering how UK drivers exist with cyclists, pedestrians and scooters, this has to be the safest way to share the road, and drier too.
    I'm interested in this vehicle but all the videos I watch takes the piss out of it. This one was embarrassing.
    I get it. You all like boy racer cars, but there are thousands of disabled and decreased mobility people out there, this vehicle will benefit.
    I can see this vehicle being an instant classic, with countless modifications that will have its own industry.
    I can see the government taxing it, which will require a special license like they have done in the past.
    It will empower people, be safer on the roads, and I'm sure you lot will love to be stuck behind one.

  • @bartonseagrave9605

    I used to be a big fan of public transportation systems. The Corona virus situation (congrats to the U.K. on being the first to introduce the vaccination!) means you are taking your life into your hands whenever you get on a bus or train. Yes, you are taking your life into your hands with such a small car too but at least it gives you direct mobility form door to, well, almost door depending on the parking situation. Parking should also be easier with the Citroen Ami. I would definitely get one if I lived in Europe in a fairly flat city.

      A licence wouldn't change anything though. People with licences drive SUVs past schools at twice the speed limit. It happens every day all around the world. Ban large cars from urban areas, reduce the speed limit to 20mph, and our cities will be a much safer place.

      And happy to say that there are some dedicated G-Wiz owners who convert new Lithium batteries into them - getting 120 miles with 12kWh in a space that old Lead Acids only got 5 - 7kWh.

    OKAY... Back to the REAL WORLD.!!!
    PROBLEM ONE: Dirt has been found to block the locks on the doors?
    PROBLEM TWO: Disgraceful delivery problems,Google it ?
    PROBLEM THREE: On test in Paris this year over 90% of the Press cars leaked in the rain?
    PROBLEM FOUR: Door security on these vehicles is on par with a LEGO CAR?
    PROBLEM FIVE: The weak impact zones front,sides, and rear,remember you can potentially do 35mph downhill in one of these on your own?
    PROBLEM SIX: On test with 2 Adults inside with 2 rucksacks the car only acheived a max speed of 22mph???
    PROBLEM SEVEN: Due to the nature of cheap plastics used for the doors in hotter countries the doors buckle, making locking/shutting them impossible?
    PROBLEM EIGHT: Due to the size of the battery when you have a phone charging and the radio on your range is reduced by upto 35%??
    PROBLEM NINE: Due to the weight of the vehicle two men can lift these cars up onto a trailer without much effort,easy steal?
    PROBLEM TEN: Handbrake and braking problems have been reported on Facebook already by some of the first owners?
    PROBLEM ELEVEN: The charging system is so cheap and it has also had reports of malfunctions by the new owners?
    PROBLEM TWELVE: You can drive one of these at 14 around the centre of London/Paris without any road knowledge?
    PROBLEM THIRTEEN: When the Association of British Insurers looked into the risk evaluation/claims on electric cheap cars for teens back in the 1980s they concluded that these small vehicles would be good for insurance cover for about 12 months before the national claims risk got so high that most teens could not afford the annual renewal?
    PROBLEM FOURTEEN: The G Wiz came out in 2001,how many have you seen on the road ?,Auto Express named it one of the top ten worst cars ever made?
    PROBLEM FIFTEEN: Its only going to be made in Left hand drive,...so aged fourteen,30mph,sat on the wrong side of the car, heading towards your car whist they are staring at their phone on the built in phone rest on the dash just by their steering wheel.(Check the press photos of the interior)?
    There were 25,945 serious injuries in road traffic accidents reported to the police in 2019 in the U.k.
    In 2019, 3,239 people died on the roads in mainland France.
    41 Americans were killed and about 133,000 injured between 2017 and 2019 in incidents tied to e-scooters, e-bikes and hoverboards ridden by teenagers/adults.
    So now we want to give a fourteen year old kid a plastic 30mph box without any instruction and put him on the road...........GOOD LUCK WITH THAT?

      Radio plus phone charger reduces range by 35%?! Yes, it's not a big battery for driving a car, but it's an utterly humongous battery as far as phones and radios go. Even if you have a really large battery in your phone (say 5000 mAh) it would take less than half a percent of the Ami's battery capacity to charge it.

    I think this is brilliant. The whole concept of a lump sum of a few thousand quid down and then 20 quid a month has got to be the future way forward. City cars rule. I speak from experience, as I own a Smart four for four electric car which is literally our family pet. Makes driving and parking in an urban environment so much fun. My other car is a Mercedes estate, which is a brilliant car for load lugging or longer journeys. But for urban use, eg shopping at the supermarket, going down the gym or golf club, we use Smarty every time. I can see youngsters going to school or colleg or out with a friend in this. It’s limited to 30 mph, so they can’t do too much damage. I would be worried nevertheless for a young person without road driving experience and discipline to drive this. There will be crashes I am sure. Not so worried about that as them hurting a pedestrian or cyclist. Digby Long

      @@Electroheads Reality check: How can it be 20 euros per month if the purchase cost is 6000? 20 eu/mo is only 240/yr, so it would take over 12 years to pay back even if the rental co bought these at half price. Something doesn't add up. Maybe 20 eu/wk?

      @Graham_Wideman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Electroheads I didn't hear (or see in the transcript) anything about a deposit, but I'm assuming that's a normal car rental level of deposit that you get back when you return the car right?
      Things still don't add up. By the minute it's 20 eu for 80 minutes. Or somehow it's 20 eu for a month?

    • @Graham_Wideman
      @Graham_Wideman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaaaand two minutes of googling later.... "The next option is a long-term rental, where one can rent an Ami on a 48-month term for €19.99 per month with a downpayment of €2,644. This plan is aimed at those who want a non-binding contract and want to offset the payment - the total cost after 48 months comes in at €3,603.52." That's more like it. Still could be a good deal; it's just not a naive "20 eu/mo".
