    I'd love one! That is basically all I need: a dry, fairly secure box to get me to work and back, with my lunch, backpack, and occasionally, take the dog on a day trip.

    That was a fantastic video Tish, thanks. Also very good question. Way back in 1991 I got my Legoland Driving Licence in Denmark. Now 30 years later I am currently giving a family member driving lessons. As I keep telling him, it doesnt matter how good of a driver you are, it's everyone else you have to look out for. What I thought was funny, my first car was a four speed Citroen AX 1.0 (Jazz) with a manual choke. It cost me £3k back in 1997.

    • @severnsea
      @severnsea 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree in principal, but the reality is that tiny cars have been around for decades but nobody wants them. Part of the problem I think is that people are concerned at how safe they are in an accident. Would you like to be sat in that when you're t-boned at a junction? I've seen a video of a Smart car that was totally destroyed in that type of accident at less than 30mph. Occupant was killed. There was hardly a mark on the other car.
      As sensible as they are economically, they will probably always be a niche market and with electric cars gradually becoming a thing the savings on running costs will be less relevant over time. Given the opportunity would I swap this for the Jag XF I paid £7k for? Not a chance, and I doubt most other people would too.

    • @tompiper9276
      @tompiper9276 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@severnsea If you think it's a car then your criticism is correct.... But it's not a car. Compared with a bike it has advantages, like not getting soaked in the rain. However, the cost..... Really cheap, no it's not.

    • @severnsea3924
      @severnsea3924 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tompiper9276 Can't see what difference it makes, whether you call it a car, a quadricycle or a plum pudding, the point remains the same. Deciding what to call it makes no difference to how safe it might or might not be.
      I don't know why but the design of these things always seems to be a bit leftfield too, they don't appeal to me very much regardless of their potential merits.
      If you're only using it to bob around town and doing very little mileage, and let's be honest there's not much else you can do with it, you might as well save some money and buy a small runabout. That's how I've always viewed this sort of thing and I suspect it's the same for most other people.

      That "windows come straight down" unfortunately was nothing more than a revelation or confirmation if you will. That she didn't do her homework and had absolutely no idea what she was talking about!
      Pretty girl for sure, but some professionalism could set you apart from the crowd! :-(
      When doing a video review would be nice to learn at least the bare minimum about the vehicle presented! On the case of this one you would spend an whole 5 minutes!!!!
      With that done. It would be no surprise that's exactly how the windows should behave! If you want/intend them to "lock". Open all the way to the top. Then they will hold as normal! Exactly like the old 2 cv more than half a century ago...
      In a similar sense there would be no surprise that the door pockets are among the largest in any passenger vehicle. A missed very practical detail.
      Just as the fact that under the dashboard (passenger side) you can place a rather large traveling suitcase! And several other details not mentioned! You have the (beautiful) figure, now please had the sweat. ;-)
      Cheers

Brilliant car for London ( most of inside the North and South circular is 20 or 30mph limits so with average speeds of under 10mph in cars , 28mph isn't an issue) although even a 3 pin plug is an issue for most Londoners who don't have driveways - hopefully they will come and the lamp post plug in points will flourish and would be great as a rental or ownership option . • @RichardFanders
      @RichardFanders 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maximum output from all solar panel in ideal conditions is around 250w per hour per square meter which will add about a mile of range per hour in the best conditions and a clean panel. But realistically a good solar panel will be 150-200w per square meter meaning so it would take closer to 100 mins to add a mile of range.

    Great review, Tish. I'm not sure how well these would sell in Ireland, if it ever came here. I don't think I have ever seen a Twizy on Irish plates, for example.

      I live In Ireland and I wanted to buy a Twizzy in UK and bring it here, but I couldn’t because the battery on a twizzy is usually owned by Citroen UK and leased to the vehicle owner.. so you can buy the car and take it to Ireland, but not the battery. @gilburton - Worth mention that old "trikes" in UK (ex. Reliant Robin) were definitely car related. But modern trikes in Europe (simply Google trikes or ATV) it will be immediately evident. Tend to be radically different things! And modern trikes in Europe are for all effects and purposes a "motorbike". So not so much of a surprise!
      About the so called "dispenstion/derogation". Most that blindly swallow the Brexit bullocks excuses! Forgot to mention that EU never imposed!! All these car/trikes, etc. regulations were/are advisory, not mandatory! A small detail conveniently forgotten! Another curious consideration is that UK, seated at the same assembly, as the rest! AND could VOTE as the rest!
      Admittedly whenever a gov. need to throw the blames on someone or something. Typically the "EU" take the blames, one way or another! LOL 😂
      As a mere example that's the reason why, the MOT in UK, is NOT like their counterparts in Germany, Poland or Portugal, etc. The regulations about the reflective vests or the reflective emergency triangle are another basic example.
      We could say the same about SO many other subjects! ;-)

  • @Karras353
    @Karras353 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I get that licensing is the main reason for the speed limit but I think perhaps a 40-50mph option would make it more appealing to many. Alongside other quirky small EVs like the Carver, I can see why this kind of thing might be seriously appealing as a second vehicle or for someone who genuinely never intends to go long distance. Though it is probably only a matter of time before someone tries a full on tour of the UK in something like this, just to prove that they can.
    I assume you’d also be able to get some more luggage behind the seats, especially if not pushed all the way back?

    • @Karras353
      @Karras353 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose one of the key obstacles to more widespread use though is going to be perceived value for money. Someone who has gone to the trouble of getting their full license may not look favourably on the limited speed and range for around £6K, when they could get a pretty reasonable condition ICE for a similar price. Perhaps this hypothetical buyer with full license might prioritise the environmental impact and/or running costs over the up front price, in which case they may instead look at cheaper examples of the Nissan Leaf with a likely still better range and greater utility.
      I know this is not the target market for the AMI, so maybe they are beside the point. But this (and the greater cost) may be something to do with why the Twizy does not appear to have taken off either. These smaller vehicles with more specific use cases are tempting but I think it is a bit hard for most people to view them as the manufacturers presumably would like, which is more of a moped alternative than a car replacement. It probably is not good for Citreon's bottom line if they convince too many people that they can get by with a cheap and cheerful EV, instead of a full fat car.

    To be frank, I would smile if I saw her driving by in a rusted Ford Pinto. She is adorable. I have loved the Citroen 2CV, still do. This little pod would not be fit for duty for us but it's cute!

    I think it’s a lot of fun, I could imagine it as a cabriolet and then driving around to the shops in summer sunglasses on 😎 and sun 🌞 beating down and wind in your hair, which is better than a big vehicle in town. When you said “Look at me now living the dream” I really did laugh out loud 😂 fantastic fun review Tishx

      OMG it would make a FAB convertible. Like a little classic Fiat 500. For 6,000 you could just take a tin-opener to the top! Glad it made you laugh!

    Great video/review Tish, I always was a fan of quirky Citroens. It makes a lot of sense for short commute people and one can park it where other cars wont fit. The other major advantage is MOT and servicing costs on a s/h car and constant stop start driving can ruin ice engines. An old ghetto blaster would provide the sounds to drown out the Jet lol. AS regards the price a good golf cart probably costs more ?? If it remains LHD it would make ECONOMIC sense to bring them into the U.K. ?

    • @severnsea
      @severnsea 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      MOT cost wouldn't be any different if they classified it as a car, which if they become popular is very likely. Servicing costs would be the same hourly rate too, the only thing that would make it cheaper is the price of spare parts. I drive a Jaguar XF, my wife drives a BMW 1 Series and the costs are similar as long as you avoid main dealer prices. Of course parts cost more for the Jag, but tend to last a lot longer on bigger cars.

      My neighbour had one for eight weeks. They couldn't get rid of it quick enough, horribly built, limited range, frustratingly slow.
      No, NO!

    As someone who is 77, and someone who does speed watch, I think the AMI is the ideal vehicle for the city, I would however like the battery to give a little more range. I live in a village in Somerset and t6o get anywhere, is a case of mileage . The AMI is ideal for getting to the shops, but not for going any distance which for us oldies is a shame.

    Finally! The first reviewer to realise these are brilliant for rural locations too. I live 13kms from my nearest shop and 25km from my nearest supermarket. It'd never be my only car, but it would do for 90% of my journeys each month. I'm getting one. I live in rural Portugal and they're €8,000 here. A grand cheaper in Spain, but car ownership is one of the most expensive in Europe here.

      Ugly isn't it and exactly the same except the rear window has the bit that hangs over to let rain run down and looking at the wing mirrors should help. Them hexagonal wheels though, how it run on them 🤔 😁

    That's the future and it's looking good. A fabulous 'car' (I know, I know) and only Citroën could this. It's what they do best. Back in the late 70's I had an Ami Estate; ugly/beautiful, eccentric, brilliant at what it was designed to do.
    Just like this one.
