    Love it. This is perfect for our roughly 4000 mile a year local town trips, all 30mph max roads. Easy to park and negates a need for a second car. Main EV for any out of town stuff. There must be loads of folk in a similar position. Definitely buying one soon as they bring it here, well done Citreon.

      All they need to do now is have a left hand drive one and make it so you can keep the door closed whilst you're charging it. This car is a really good indication of what the future could.look like, but as of now, there are so many downsides to owning one of these. Insurance wise, practicality (if you live in a flat not on the ground floor good luck charging it without dangling an extension cord over the window and sit in the car for 3 hours whilst it's charging), the blower is very inefficient and it's not properly sealed (water drips inside through the door seams). Also very easy to pop the locks and nick it.

    • @Keyser-0
      @Keyser-0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Seymour_Cox It is possible to charge the Ami with the door closed. The cable threads through a gap just below cable stowage and out just above door lock.
      We're promised an adaptor for Type 2 public charging too. Though the 13amp fuse on it's inc. mains plug would most probs limit the speed of re-charge.
      I'd like to know if two-up it can zip up a 12 to 20% gradient for three or four minutes. So many cars are bought to handle the hills surrounding very many towns built in river valleys.
      Jusr a brilliant design. 45mph max. A gearbox for the hills?? Yes, please.

    Such a sweet looking "car". It's definitely the sort of thing you could expect to see in droves in larger city centres; just think of the difference to the air quality in central London alone if people drove electric quadricycles instead of conventional cars with ICEs. It's not as quick as the Twizy 80, but perhaps that's a good thing - I certainly wouldn't want to be overtaken by lorries on a dual carriageway.

    A brilliant little "car" - I've been looking forward to this review all Christmas! This would be the car to buy your teenage son or daughter - they could have no aspirations to be a boy/girl racer in it. That alone could save loads of accidents per year - and insurance costs would likely be actually affordable for them.

  • @jean-pierredevent970
    @jean-pierredevent970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    First video I see where the car looks safe on the small road outside the city too, as long as there are no crazy drivers around. Of course with a bike, such ends even worse.
    I went to see one and noticed the windows can only be opened "normally" from the inside.
    The outside is not the kind of hard plastic that breaks in pieces when hit with a hammer. It feels still a bit flexible so it can absorb small hits but also it could be cut by vandals.
    There is no room behind the passenger seat but behind the driver some narrow space is left for perhaps an laptop, umbrella or jacket, it's not much. But of course without a passenger, there is quite some space for goods or a suitcase. The day one can also lease or rent one or more portable 4 kWh battery stations, the range is no longer a problem and a carefree longer trip to the countryside or coast becomes possible.

    As standard, my twizy will do 52mph and with the PowerBox it will do 72mph and a lot better acceleration. Do you think either a mapping box will be available, or will Citroen do a higher power version? 28mph isn’t enough, 40mph possibly otherwise I’d buy one.

    • @eigude244
      @eigude244 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The speed is limited to match the EU AM classification, here in germany I just need a cheap insurance licence plate and do not have to go to TÜV=technical check with this. So tuning it to make it quicker would be illegal as you exceed the 45kph of this class. But maybe Citroen brings sometime an Ami 80 like Renault with Twizy 45 and 80.

    • @unarmedduck
      @unarmedduck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eigude244 That's fair enough but given that the ami is coming to the UK and US I do hope they'll release less a restricted export model in the future. The 28mph/45kmph speed limit is my one put off, I'd love to see one that could hit 35mph+.

    They could be formed into trains. If I wanted to go from Sheffield to Barnsley I'd drive to Sheffield station, join a queue of these for Barnsley, there would be queues for Wakefield and Leeds too. At a prescribed time the queues would be formed into a long queue (Leeds-Wakefield -Barnsley order) and hitched to the back of the Sheffield-Leeds train or some form of locomotive. On arriving at Barnsley the Last group in the train would be unhitched and I drive to my office in Barnsley. Reserved seat in a private compartment all the way.

    I think this is a cool car.
    Charging is a bit slow, you don't want to use it for long trips.
    Would be cool to add an extra battery for range, and faster charging for convenience.
    Changing at 8 A is usually not bad for EV, but when that's the only/fastest option. You have to wait long, if you sant to go beyond the actual range.
    But charger and battery adds weight, reducing range an increasing cost.

    I love this vehicle. It's less mad-looking than a Twizy, gives better weather protection, has some form of heating, lockable doors (I hope), has sensible, if basic, seats, looks better, has more internal space, is easy to park in limited city parking spaces (it could even park perpendicular to the kerb quite safely), and I wouldn't feel like a complete twit travelling in one.
    It's quirky enough, and well enough priced to really catch on, especially if a longer range, or second, battery could be fitted. That would give it the capability of being recharged once per week, whilst being used for city or town commutes, weekly shopping, etc.
    Remember that the original 2CV had less power than the electric Ami, and wasn't much faster. But look what became of it! They're still sought-after and treasured, 75 years later.
    Registered my interest without hesitation, even if we only ever buy a used one. But if the price is kept down, that wouldn't even be an issue.

    Given the number of TH-camrs and motoring journalists who have driven around Coventry in this I wonder if McDonald's got a bit sick of seeing it pull up at the drive through?. This model is great for the regulations in France but I don't think will really sell in the UK due to the higher licence requirements. If it had a higher top speed, something around 50mph similar to a 125cc scooter and a bit better range for the UK it could do well though. For example I live about 5 miles from my workplace, but there is a section of busy road of about 2 miles with a 50mph limit I'd have to drive along and wouldn't feel that safe doing it in this at less than 30mph.

    If this come to the UK and be licence free or what they said at first taking a CBT type test I would be waiting outside the dealers or on the internet buying one ASAP. I would have a smile bigger than anyone and ideal for me and perfect to go with my mobility scooter, I registered and wait and see if it comes to UK, well done for video lads 👍

    How can we get one shipped to America? Dying to get one too but we don’t have Citroen here.

    Brilliant, but really needs to do 40mph for me to feel safe on the dual carriage ways near me.

    Amazing car for city journeys but unfortunately it will be mostly used by French drivers who have lost their licence due to being caught drink driving. I’ve spent many hours stuck behind the petrol equivalent on French rural roads.

    That was ne of the most entertaining reviews I've seen. You should have been wearing false white beards, pointy ears and hats with a bell on, sticking fishing rods out the tiny windows, and calling it the Gnomemobile

    the funny thing in NYC you would get a speeding ticket at 28 miles an hour the speed limit is 25 miles an hour.

    want one, if there is a version that does 60 mph, the 28 mph idea is a bit poor for uk, unless of course they don't know there is land outside of London, but it is a good idea

    Ill stick to the mini. Thats enough of a small car to b also practical and safe. Obviously we talking about massive differences in price. But id b constantly wanting more space n speed n safety. Cant see it really selling well other then the unusual factor

    You need to show us some parking tests with it. Can you put it sideways in a spot. Could you put 2 in on parking stall? Anyway, looks like fun.

      I don't think that would be possible for quite a few reasons but the main would be the loss of multi tasking switching from manual to auto car...it may work as a introduction vehicle for most young drivers who wish to drive a city quadra cycle

    The design touches hark back to 2CV days; folding door windows, fabric handles to close/open them too, easy clean interior for when you have to take the sheep to market. BUT can you drive across a ploughed field st top speed and not break the eggs in your basket 🧺

      Have the builder in to expand the front door to a double wide and you could put it in your front room.

      @@Markle2k Ha ha re reading my comment it looks a little extreme. I ment the old front 'garden' wall that only serves to protect about a metre of gravel before the actual house wall.
