I found this to be the most detailed, informative and practical explanation of the Bilstein line on TH-cam. While others certainly cover the basics about the shock characteristics, they don’t drill down to a Consumer-level to determine which one is best for you. This one does. Others invite you to contact them to discuss options. While we appreciate that, the reason we watch videos in the first place is to determine which one is best for our driving style. Regardless, this video was very helpful to me. 5100’s all the way around for me.
We appreciate your kind words so much. We definitely try to help people and have them select what they would need. Everyone is doing different things and deem comfort differently. We prefer that customer know what they're getting, how it may or may benefit them and etc.
Thank you for your service and information!! Completed the installation of the 6112 (F) 5100 (R) today on my wife's 2001 Toyota Sequoia. Great recommendation and product.
I don’t off road my truck often but I want to be able to tackle fire roads and other mild terrain at higher speeds. I like to explore the blue ridge mountains and there’s easy simple trails everywhere and can easily lose track of time and see yourself driving an hour or more back to the highway. Being able to hit pot holes and ruts at 15-20+ mph and not get beat to death is what I want.
Fox 2.0 will give that comfort for daily and help you on the off-roading portion. However, note, a Pothole is something you cannot really alleviate as it's a hole in the ground.
Thanks Sean for the always informative and to the point videos! you guys are amazing. Definitely ordering some 6112 and 5160s asap! Ive had my 2022 tacoma trd offroad for a couple years now and the stock 4600 bilsteins that the truck comes equipped with are 1) tiny piston diameter, so they bottom out on everything 2) not enough oil, so they heat up and fade when offroading because of low oil capacity & 3) underdamped, so the truck bounces up and down after any sort of feature on the road. Was delaying buying shocks because a 2.5King or Fox setup is 4-5k with UCA's but this front and rear kit for 11000 seems like so much bang for the buck! plus the reliability of bilstein. Cant wait! I'll call you guys to find out what surclip setting I need the 6112s to be assembled at, to arrive at a 1-1.5" lift.
I am having difficulty deciding between 6112/5160 or 5100 for my 2013 tundra crew cab 4x4. I tow a 7500lb to 8500lb travel trailer about 6 times a year with a couple hundred pounds in the bed and the only off roading I do is some mountain trails when I’m deer hunting. I’m concerned more about ride quality on the road while not towing but also the peace of mind while towing. And also what about add a leaf or a whole leaf spring stack replacement to bring the rear up with the front lift and give more support for heavy load while towing.
Great videos , I like the idea you guys actually test and compare all the shocks . I did purchase from Shock Surplus for my 2019 TRD Tacoma LB , with a Leer camper…the 6112 and 5160 Performs great for our purpose.. Hawaii lava rocky roads and sand trails… Aloha
02 Silverado 2500HD X-Cab Long Bed, Re-keyed 2" Torsion Bar lift. Rear Air Bags. 295 BFG's on 8.5 x 16" all around. Camper shell, ladder rack, off road and towing. Running fairly new 5100's in the rear. Looking to replace the fronts. Stay with 5100's or upgrade, 5160? Or upgrade all around? Weekend warrior. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the details! The 5160 will feel softer than the 5100s, which helps on those torsion bars when turned up. www.shocksurplus.com/products/bilstein-b8-5160-w-remote-reservoir-shocks-front-pair-for-2001-2010-chevrolet-silverado-2500-hd-4wd-rwd?variant=39901122232369
For a towing application (Tundra), is it OK to use 4600's on the front and 5100 reservoir on the back? Or will 4600's all around work fine for towing? The stock shocks are on there now, never been happy with the ride and towing is bonkers with those.
Really the 5160 is not going to be noticeably better under a load than the 4600s, and if you are just daily driving and towing, you will never get your shocks hot enough to need a reservoir shock in the rear. I would save the money and go 4600s all around for sure.
Curious as to how the 6112/5160 combo stacks up to the Eibach PT2R setup. Similarly priced. I imagine the Eibachs are a little softer and comfier all around but the Bilsteins will handle more abuse. I’m running a GMC sierra at4 3.0 diesel.
Bilstein 6112 all come with a front spring in their kit but do not include a rear spring. The rear spring is an optional part that user can purchase. This also varies on the vehicle as well if there's rear springs available.
2020 Duramax 3500 with camper traveling to and from Baja every winter ,tired of the ride on those whooped out roads . Considering the reservoir 5160 , are they used in the front as well?
The 5160s would definitely help out with that. A heavier vehicle like that would benefit from a 2.5 option like Fox 2.5 or King 2.5s, but we understand budget constraints. www.shocksurplus.com/products/bilstein-b8-5160-w-remote-reservoir-shocks-set-for-2011-2019-chevrolet-silverado-3500-hd-4wd-rwd
Actually since this video was released Bilstein has updated their policy to a 2 year warranty on things like the 5160s, but at the time having the 90 day warranty certainly was an issue for a lot of people who ended up buying these parts. Bilstein probably has the highest build quality and production standards of any other manufacturer, so issues are the least likely of any brand, but nobody is perfect so there are still always some occasional duds. It was not uncommon for somebody to buy a set, not install them or check them for 3 months, find out they were leaking/defective when they went to install and be essentially out of luck with Bilstein. We obviously took care of a lot of people on our dime, but there were certainly a lot of people who got bit before they updated the warranty
so I bought the 6112's for my 2007 FJ. I did the clip location at 4/2 . This setting didn't give me enough, I'm about 1/2 inch shy of where I want the front end. so now of course they are installed, I want to set the circlips to 5/3. Is there any spring compressor I can use to compress the spring ON VEHICLE so I can raise the lower spring seat by one notch with the circlip?
We do not suggest trying to compress the spring while it's on the vehicle. It's highly suggested to remove it and compress it on a suitable compressor.
One of our favorite easy trail systems for the daily driver www.shocksurplus.com/products/eibach-pro-truck-lift-system-stage-1-kit-for-2003-2009-lexus-gx470-w-2-3-lift
According to their website, they warranty the B8 5160/8100/8112 category for 2 yrs. The B8 5125/5165/8125/9200/9300 series purchased in N America for 90 days.
That is correct. The vary from model to model. 5160, 8100, and 8112 have a 2 year and are more off-road oriented and are rebuildable by Bilstein. All the 5125, 5165, 8125, 9200, 9300 are universal so they have a shorter warranty and requite more prices calculations for setup.
@@ShockSurplus just wanted to mention it because in the video you say the 5160 has a 90 day and that's it, when they actually have the 2 yr. I just put mine on a week ago, and then when you guys said 90 days I was like wtf how'd I miss that. Glad to read it's 2 yr on the site.
Great break down on these; I run the 6121/5160 on my Tacoma. My questions is as I add load (bumpers, topper, equip, ppl) what is the best application? 4WP folks are guiding me towards airbags with compressor. I am not seeing a lot of those setups. I feel I am getting misguided. I see ppl using beefed leaf springs. Not which way to go?
For constant load like that we think a better option would be a full set of leaf springs like Icon RXTs. You do not want to rely on load leveling solutions like air bags all the time. If you are running a heavy front bumper as well it might be a good idea to step up to a 650 or 700 lb per inch spring.
Appreciate the response. I am going to go with a OME 112 full leaf springs and OME UCAs; I ll add the CBI rear bumper w/swing out tire carrier @@ShockSurplus
Hey brother nice video!, I do have a 2014 GMC SIERRA 1500 5.3 L 2WD and I’m looking to set the two last ones that you were talking about 5160 and 6112. Are those good to go for my truck? What do you think is best for a great suspension ?
Fox 2.0 or Bilstein 5100 for someone who mainly does Highway/City daily pavement driving and is looking for a firmer tighter ride. Do not like the bouncy splashy feel on the road. Thanks
2022 Ram 1500 honestly just trying to get roughly 2.5 to level it out and go with 285/65's. it's going to be a pavement princess, so comfortability is my goal. Should I stick with the 5100's or go to the 6112's? I don't tow or haul around anyway weight except 3 small heathens & the wife
I would probably go with an Eibach Stage 2 package or at least their 2.0 coilovers and Pro Truck Sport rear shocks instead of the Bilstein. If you are not towing or taking it off road, you can stand to go with something tuned a little softer.
I have 2022 sequoia 4wd. my vehicle carried heavy load every day and offroad every day. can you recommend a complete lift_kit that is heavy duty for offroad, heavy load and fit a size 35s. thank you!
Please contact our sales team directly. We'll help guide you in the right direction. If this is strictly a off-road build, we'd have to know what you're doing exactly so we can steer you into the right direction.
Looking to level my 2018 F150 King Ranch 3.5EB FX4. Originally wanted the 5100s, but I hear there are issues when setting to max height adjustment whatever that is such as loss in travel, unbearably stiff ride, and excessive wear on CVs. Would the 6112 + 5160 set up alleviate mentioned variables? I don’t tow so I would be going for a true level in respects to the wheel well space seeming I’m not worried about my headlights being in the sky.
You wouldn't have issues with the travel or wear on the CV. Preload is subjective as everyone feels comfort differently. For us, we have not seen any massive change if ride quality from running higher setting or more preload.
Now my biggest concern is that I’m seeing many people having issues with the factory UCAs coming in contact with the coil springs when set to max height on the 5100 and 6112 on the 2018. What height would be best to avoid this issue and also avoid needing to upgrade the UCAs? I imagine it would be different for the 5100 than it would for the 6112 given the different adjustment capabilities?
I have an 18 f150 supercab and its all stock. Do you think 5100 front and 5160 for rear is cool?. Its a city truck, no big tires, no offroading. I really like how the 5160 "look"
This a link to the 6112 for your F150: www.shocksurplus.com/products/bilstein-6112-strut-spring-assembled-rear-b8-5100-shocks-set-for-2009-2013-ford-f150-4wd?variant=31673547587633 They come with a 500 lb spring
I don't do off road but I do pull my 29 foot RV with the weight of 8,700 lbs can the 5160 make the job on not dropping the truck a lot ? Or the 5160 are not built for weight ?
Outside shocks, what you really need to focus on is you rear spring set up. That is where are you weight support is. The shocks are more of the comfort or feeling of the rear end.
@ShockSurplus What is the truly difference between two oem shock replacements. KYB - Excel G shock absorbers VS. Bilstein - B4 shock absorbers? Is there one has a small feature that’s better than the other? What’s the difference?
The difference is going to be in materials mostly, Bilstein is using materials to ensure longevity, KYB is more oriented towards cost savings. Namely the seals that Bilstein use are superior to most, which gives their shocks such a long life span. That wiper seal that cleans the shaft before entry to the shock is best in the business, ensuring no debris is getting into the shock.
Hi buying a 2023 TRD Off Road Premium. Considering 6112/5160. I do a fair amount off roading in Moab, not too hard core. Fast dirt roads and some rock crawling. I do run into a lot of washboard roads. Seems like the 5160 would handle that better? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
It depends on the total constant weight on the front end. Bilstein 6112 come with a 600 lb. spring which is good for 0-80 lbs. of additional weight. You would upgrade to 650 lb. spring for 80-140 lbs. of additional weight. The most we would do is a 700 lb. spring which is for 150-220 lbs. of additional weight.
I have a 21 GMC Denali 2500 HD and am torn between 5100s F and 5160s R, or 5160s F&R. Do 6112s fit my truck? Mine is a daily driver, occasional tow, but will be full time tow in the next year, and I go off-road depending on the season for different activities and events. What would be your suggestion for the best setup in all the above for comfort handling cornering etc…..
6112s are for vehicles that already have coil over strut suspension and will not work on a truck like yours that has torsion bars, leaf springs, and separate shocks. On your application the 5100s and 5160s will both offer very similar initial feel with the 5160s offering better heat dissipation under more extreme use. If you like to drive fast off road, or you turn a lot of miles when you are off road, then it may be a good idea to get a 5160 remote reservoir shock all around, otherwise the 5100s will do the trick.
I have a 2019 f250 and I tow everyday down dirt roads, and the truck rides is rough. What would be the best shocks for my truck? I have a leveled truck 2” In Front and 3” in rear.
Sounds like you might be simply measuring the rear blocks which these trucks come with from the factory. If the truck is sitting level and has a 2" lift in the front it is probably stock in the back. For your use a set of 5100s would more than do the trick www.shocksurplus.com/products/bilstein-b8-5100-monotube-gas-shocks-set-for-2017-2019-ford-f250-super-duty-4wd-w-2-2-5-lift
If you do not plan on running too heavy of a front bumper, I recommend the 6112s and 5160s. However, if you want to run a lot of additional constant load ahead of the front axle, you may want to consider something you can upgrade the spring on, like Icon 2.5 coilovers. The 6112s use a proprietary spring design with no heavier alternatives. In contrast, a threaded body coilover like the Icons uses a universal flat ground coilover spring, with countless options for spring rates from companies like Eibach. That said, the Bilsteins are the better value, and we think they are tuned a little better for the average overlander or daily driver.
I put the 5160 on my 03 Silverado 1500 z71. Definitely better than the stock Bilstein it came with (had 325k before changing 🙄🤣) wanted the fox long travel and now realizing I should have.
Thanks for the super informative vid, building my first 3rd gen 4runner and wanted to buy the 6112+5100 rear package, but then got convinced to get the 6112+5160, but this vid backtracked me to the 6112+5100 rear. Sorry if that sounded complicated. Also Had a question, I know you guys are located in California, I was wondering if I can just pick up from the warehouse I'm about 40 mins away and don't want to wait for shipping.
I am looking at getting a minimum of a 3", but ideally, 3.5" lift, or whatever I need to fit 35" tires with 20x10 wheels on a 2020 Tundra TRD Off-road. I will use the truck as a daily, overlanding, and occasional hauling. Can Bilstein's go higher than a 3" lift?
I know I’m late to the party but I keep watching your videos and I really need your help! I want to level my dodge ram 1500 I don’t do no off roading daily driver just want a level truck all the way around! what’s your recommendation? Thanks
I've got a 2017 ford 150 lariat and I'm thinking about upgrading the shocks for better road comfort. The current set up I am thinking is a 5100 for the front and back. My only concern/question is I believe the truck has a leveling kit on it. I'm not 100% positive, but I'm fairly positive (likely a 2.5in). Now if I replaced with a 5100 in the front will I lose the level or do I reinstall the coilover on the new 5100?
Feel free to shoot us some images to support@shocksurplus.com and we can help figure that out. On that truck, you can get 2.1" of lift out of the front using the Bilstein 5100 height adjustment. Or you can use the Bilstein at the factory height setting and continue to run the spacer. www.shocksurplus.com/products/bilstein-b8-5100-monotube-gas-adjustable-shocks-set-for-2015-2019-ford-f150-4wd-w-0-2-1-lift
Stock suspension is typically really soft, so we'd be on the side of no here, when comparing against Bilstein. What vehicle do you have specifically? We can find you an option for what you're looking for (offroad comfort)
@@ShockSurplus a 2015 Toyota tundra crew max. I’m looking for at least 2.5 inches of lift but want something I can offroad in long fast dirt roads usually
I have 2008 H2 with OEM suspension. It’s a daily driver. I’m looking to soften my suspension as I never use it off road. I just want it to ride more comfy. What do you recommend for me.
If you are looking for something softer than stock we think the Skyjacker M95 is a great option and at less than $400 they are a great value. The Fox 2.0 is probably the best riding option, but they are $700 a set and will need to be rebuilt fairly often.
The 6112s will definitely ride better. The larger 60mm piston means they have way more potential dampening force and do not have to be tuned quite as stiff to provide the support for a full size truck with independent front suspension. The digressive design on both also means the larger piston of the 6112 allows for more oil to pass freely through the piston for better small bump sensitivity. Bilstein just released an "Extended Travel" 6112 that is adjustable from 1.75-2.75" of lift instead of 0-1.75" like the standard 6112s or 5100s. So if you were planning on running the 5100s or 6112s at the top setting for 1.75-1.85" of lift, you could get that same lift at the lowest setting on the extended travel 6112s which should allow them to top out less and ride better. They do require an aftermarket upper control arm though, so you will need to factory that into your budget/choice.
Hi! Do you recommend the B12 rear springs for 2018 FJ Cruiser running on 6112/5160 with stock rear springs? Love how it is riding now except for the annoying body roll on corners in low speed. I figured it must be the old springs. Thanks again for another great video!!
Is the rear end sagging under load? Are you running front and/or rear sway bars? If you're not sagging, but dont want to increase ride height, then new lift springs in the back may not be the ideal move. If you want some ride height gain in the rear, then definitely, the b12 springs will give that added height and rate to help with body roll. A new beefier sway bar from Helliwig would address body roll as well. Reach out to us to dive into the details, would love to help - 213-433-3616
5160s are typically valved linearly, rather than digressively, so a bit more bump compliant and smoother in the tougher stuff www.shocksurplus.com/search?query=bilstein-5160
Hello, thanks for you video explaining Bilstein shocks and their capabilities. I do have questions for my specific application- I am rebuilding 1989 Jeep Wagoneer to be trail rider / semi rock crawler. It has solid axles and leaf springs all around. Going with spring over axle suspension lift which I’m told should bring about 6” lift and 4” upgraded leaf springs. Do you recommend the reservoir type 5160s over 5100 for this? Thanks
The 5160 will be softer overall compared to the 5100s, and on the trail that helps a lot with all that chatter and small rocks. www.shocksurplus.com/search?query=bilstein-5160
Bilstein don't require maintenance, and most aren't serviceable since they're sealed shocks. But good thing is they last a billion miles without issue most of the time
Very good informational video. One of the most informative videos I’ve seen in a long time and truly honest opinion and uses. My question for you is I was going to put 5100’s on a 22 F-350 dually lifted 5” running 37/12.5/22’s. Mostly will be towing a 34’ 5th wheel trailer occasionally then just a luxury truck. Do you suggest I go with the 5100’s as planned? Thanks!
The best option would be to stay at 2" but you would likely get better ride out of a spacer. Just make sure to cycle the suspension to make sure there is no CV bind and if there is, although we hate to do it, your best bet is a diff drop.
So I run 5100’s currently all around and medium duty leaf packs in the back. If I swapped in the 5160’s would that make any sense to additional help support with weight I carry? I have a topper on the truck and any given time anywhere from a couple of hundred lbs (constantly) to between 600-700lbs in the bed. Thanks for any info.
The 5160s probably will not be all that much better under a load, however in most cases they are longer in travel so they do perform better with most aftermarket leaf packs.
I have a 2023 At4 3.0 duramax. The 6112 would give me 1.1 lift in the front? Just curious because I know the other models are 2 inches lower than the AT4s
Hi bro.can I get one this suspension for SsangYong rexton ultimate 2021? I put the Ironman kit for SsangYong, but the ride was not good.please give me your opinion which suspension or lift kit it's better for nice and smooth ride, could be used for SsangYong.thanks
Most companies we deal with don't produce parts for international cars that were not offered here in the US. We don't offer Ironman 4x4 but we can possible look at ARB/OME as OME was an Australian based company. Please contact us directly for assistance.
Nope not needed, but it can really help with tire clearance since you can align for more positive caster to push the front tires forward and net yourself some clearance from those pesky front body mounts, wheel tubs, and everything else behind the front tires
@@ShockSurplus Thanks, it sounds that if I don't need to worry about tire clearance, I really don't need it. I am running 265/65R18 with stock wheel on my 2020 GX without rubbing.
Bilstein 5100s should do the trick if you are plan on keeping it stock height now and might consider lifting it later. If I am not mistaken the lowest setting on the 6112s will still add a little lift to the front end.
@@ShockSurplus how does Bp-51 front/5100s rear combo perform if using for both off-road and daily commute? i just really like the way ome bp-51 has both compress and rebound adjustment
It depends on your use case and preferences. The Bilstein definitely is more supportive over bigger bumps at higher speeds, but the Eibach is generally more comfortable over smaller bumps and chatter and particularly at lower speeds
I was originally going to go with your 5100 kit for my 2010 Lexus GX460 but after talking to Bilstein, they said that the 5100s would not work in the front and recommended the 6112 because of the added weight? Can you share if you guys have had a lot of applications of the 6112s in GX460 or GX470s? Are the 5100s valved differently because of the V8 up front? What do you recommend? Located in Colorado btw doing technical trails (slow crawling) and nothing too fast. Currently don't have much armor other than sliders and skids.
They do have 6112 and it's a new part number that has not been supplied quite yet. Contact our sales team directly and we'll help figure everything out for you. www.shocksurplus.com/pages/contact-us-general-inquiry
Hey guys, sorry if it's been asked before. Wrangler Jk 2013 4door, all stock. Are 5100s or Fox 2.0 direct installs? I want to keep things stock, no mods, no lift etc. Thx!
5100s require a small lift, use the 4600s if you're sticking at factory height, they ride the same. Fox does have 2.0s for factory height. Fox will produce more comfort, Bilstein will produce more handling, some overlap between the two but they definitely have a different feel between them
Bilstein 6112 are 2.5" diameter struts and do not offer a reservoir option . The reservoir only comes in the rear in the 5160 iteration. 2.5 series do not overheat more than smaller diameter. The large diameter body helps out and if they offer ar eservoir, they help out even more.
5160 SAD Bilstein only a 90 day warranty..is it because they do not believe in their own shocks!!! I wanted to get a set for my son 2016…6112 and 5160s …not any more
I order 5100 and heavy duty spring for my 4 runner 285 70 17 tires what setting grove for the shock you recommend. ? Do you think heavy duty spring is rough handling? Thanks
What is the exact part number of the spring? What you need to consider is how much lift the springs also provides, then look at the circlip chart for the 5100. The specs on the 5100 are based on using a stock height spring.

Straight to the point. I have now made my choice for the 5100s. Thank you for the clear and concise explanation
It makes me smile, everytime Sean says Bilstein😀 He is one of few who pronounce it correctly!

I just ordered the 5165 from you guys I’m excited to give them a review
awesome! thanks for your business, definitely send some pics
I still have some questions so I guess I need to call and speak with someone. Thank you for a very informative video.
Curious as to how the 6112/5160 combo stacks up to the Eibach PT2R setup. Similarly priced. I imagine the Eibachs are a little softer and comfier all around but the Bilsteins will handle more abuse. I’m running a GMC sierra at4 3.0 diesel.
6112/5100 combo and the b12 rear springs seem the best way to go, does the 6112 come with coil springs?
Bilstein 6112 all come with a front spring in their kit but do not include a rear spring. The rear spring is an optional part that user can purchase. This also varies on the vehicle as well if there's rear springs available.
2020 Duramax 3500 with camper traveling to and from Baja every winter ,tired of the ride on those whooped out roads . Considering the reservoir 5160 , are they used in the front as well?
The 5160s would definitely help out with that. A heavier vehicle like that would benefit from a 2.5 option like Fox 2.5 or King 2.5s, but we understand budget constraints.

Very informative, can you elaborate on "the 90 day warranty really bites people in the butt." Thanks!

Our apologies, I'll bring this up to the media team.

I have the 5100 adjustable shocks for the at4. Do I need to replace the factory UCA if I set the ring to the highest setting (1.1’ lift above stock)?
no, stock UCA is fine for normal daily driving, but even then we wouldn't trust the GM factory UCAs with all the failures we've seen

Great video great information

I don't do off road but I do pull my 29 foot RV with the weight of 8,700 lbs can the 5160 make the job on not dropping the truck a lot ? Or the 5160 are not built for weight ?
Outside shocks, what you really need to focus on is you rear spring set up. That is where are you weight support is. The shocks are more of the comfort or feeling of the rear end.
@ShockSurplus
What is the truly difference between two oem shock replacements.
KYB - Excel G shock absorbers
VS.
Thanks!
What spring rate do you recommend on a 6112 on a Toyota tacoma with a Alluminum front bumper and winch?
It depends on the total constant weight on the front end. Bilstein 6112 come with a 600 lb. spring which is good for 0-80 lbs. of additional weight. You would upgrade to 650 lb. spring for 80-140 lbs. of additional weight. The most we would do is a 700 lb. spring which is for 150-220 lbs. of additional weight.
can I get the 6112 for my2020 chevy Silverado drama
What 2020 Chevrolet Silverado do you have? 1500, 2500, 3500?
Great info! Thanks guys.

I have a 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie I want to build into an overlander, which do you suggest?

Bilstein 6112s and 5100s top out at 2.5", but the 8112 front coilovers can go up to 3.25"

Are they more comfortable then the stock suspension off-road ????

So for a smoother ride on road would the 5100s be better? Going on a 2016 Silverado 1500 and I’d have it set to the highest setting
What upper comtrol arms do you recommend with the extended travel 6112... and whats another similar option? Like that

@@ShockSurplus this is very helpful sir! Thank you for this!!
is the 5160 softer than it's identical-ish 5100 counterpart? or is it the same digressive valving?
5160s are typically valved linearly, rather than digressively, so a bit more bump compliant and smoother in the tougher stuff

Do they require maintenance like fox shocks?
Bilstein don't require maintenance, and most aren't serviceable since they're sealed shocks. But good thing is they last a billion miles without issue most of the time
Very good informational video. One of the most informative videos I’ve seen in a long time and truly honest opinion and uses.
My question for you is I was going to put 5100’s on a 22 F-350 dually lifted 5” running 37/12.5/22’s. Mostly will be towing a 34’ 5th wheel trailer occasionally then just a luxury truck. Do you suggest I go with the 5100’s as planned? Thanks!
We would still go with Bilstein 5100 as is geared more for towing and hauling.
If i want 2 1/2 in the front should i do 650lbs spring or 1/2 strut spacer on the 6112? Just weekend camping and some off road trails
The best option would be to stay at 2" but you would likely get better ride out of a spacer. Just make sure to cycle the suspension to make sure there is no CV bind and if there is, although we hate to do it, your best bet is a diff drop.
Do the 5160 come with the holder for the reservoirs?
It's based on application. Some come with them, some do not, and some cannot use them.

Considering getting one. Is UCA required for 6112/5160 set up with 1.5" or 2.0" setup with GX460?
Nope not needed, but it can really help with tire clearance since you can align for more positive caster to push the front tires forward and net yourself some clearance from those pesky front body mounts, wheel tubs, and everything else behind the front tires

Would the 2.5 coil over overheat before the smaller diameter 6112 with the reservoir ?
Bilstein 6112 are 2.5" diameter struts and do not offer a reservoir option . The reservoir only comes in the rear in the 5160 iteration. 2.5 series do not overheat more than smaller diameter. The large diameter body helps out and if they offer ar eservoir, they help out even more.

What is the exact part number of the spring? What you need to consider is how much lift the springs also provides, then look at the circlip chart for the 5100. The specs on the 5100 are based on using a stock height spring.
