I explored Harcourt extensively around 2011 at all times of the day. Not a soul was to be seen. Even spending hours there. It wasn't until I went back in 2017 that a caretaker of such was present. Glad to see someone finally made their way inside the elusive indoor swimming pool! Love the videos.
I am not a fan of short videos (of great explores), but everything about this video was just Good. The narration. The history of this place. The possible future of this place. Well done!
Incredible dedication. You must have had nerves of steal to go in there! In the dark! On a tiny rope ladder!! Please explore the basement of No Man's Land sea fort next LOL!
It is surprising that it's been left for so long as it really is a prime location, with all the fires happening there lately it would be nice if someone stepped in and did something with it. Thanks for watching 😁👍
@@AbandonedIsleofWight that's ok pal you're uploads are well put together I really enjoy watching them.i also like the information you provide with each upload 👌
I used to enjoy going on holiday here, it is in a great location right near the ferry port. It will be a shame and a waste if they just build another housing estate or a dreaded supermarket.
I remember that pool. Every day for a week we would go there, and I was too scared to go on the big blue slide. but about half an hour before we had to leave the pool for the final time i got enough courage to climb the spiral staircase. I loved the slide so much I had to be dragged away from it! was a big stepping stone in overcoming my fear of heights.
Id say this is probably the most visited "urbex" location on the Island, but you're right we do have quite a bit of abandoned stuff, there's still plenty of other spots I haven't put up yet too, I'm just waiting for the right time to release them/wait for them to get secured. Thanks for watching! 👍
Yeah there's no camera its just something the caretaker scribbled to try and scare off the kids, the truth of the matter is that the police are very unlikely to get involved unless you're causing any damage, thanks very much for watching
It's so sad to see it like this. I used to work there when it was two sites called St Clare and Puckpool. I could use the swimming pool for free. Nice video.
Thanks very much, it is a shame as there is nothing like this on the Island anymore, that being said someone is obviously looking after the building. It would be amazing if something could be done to reopen it, perhaps if the Council enforced a CPO and allow Puckpool park the chance to bid on the building the park to add it to their portfolio making the site an "all season" attraction
In 1989 I was a lifeguard at Harcourt Sands, working both the outdoor pool, and this leisure centre. Myself "Andy Jones," and my then time girl friend, "J" I wont mention her full name, although I still have a very special place in my heart for her. (She was the receptionist at the Leisure Center on this Video.) We spent that summer working there. They did a promotional brochure and I was pictured in it.- (I cant rem if it was in or on the cover) -sitting on one of the false rocks in the centre. The rock 2:47 left hand side of the screen. I would Love to see that photo again, if anyone has it, please reply here. I was wearing the white top with blue LIFEGUARD on it, I have dark hair. This video brings back so so many memories. Thank you so much for these memories guys.
Interesting to see this. As an architect, I worked on this project back in the late 80's as part of the Miller Hughes Associates (Architects) design team. Had no idea it was derelict.
Hi David. I'm an architecture student and am looking at the site as a final project. Would love the opportunity to talk to you about the old pool building if you got a chance?
Spent 5 days here back in my last year of primary school. Funny enough it was in 2006 the same year it shut for good. It was the first & only time I’ve been to the isle of white & always wanted go back there ever since. Sad to see it’s closed down as I have many fond memories of my school trip there. Such a shame to see it go to waste, hopefully something good will come of it.
It's so sad, if you ever had holidays there, you would understand.. we need a patition to get it up & running again.. the entertainment was great, food, accomodation, chalet was by the beach. FANTASTIC memories for my family, between 1990 & 2004... Ryde needs the tourism, it's looking run down..BRING BACK HARCOURT SANDS !!!!
I stayed here in 1994 as part of a travel agents convention. It was closed to the public and only filled with hundreds of Lunn Poly YTS staff. I was 18 and had the best time. I remember the pool area well. Such a shame to see it in a bad way.
Thanks so much for risking all to bring this to the channel Was this camp a Pontins in it's heyday, do you know? My parents took me to several Pontins camps as a kid, maybe this was one and i dont remember 🤔
Went there when it was Warner’s Holiday Camp Puck pool for a Football Weekend in the 80s. It was very Hi de Hi but we had good fun such a shame to see these places so desolate . Needs to be put to good use now not just left like this!
I went there too over a period of 5 or 6 years during the 80s. You're right, it was like Hi de Hi and in fact the greencoats used to call out 'Hi de Hi' at mealtimes.
Yeah, in hindsight I think it may not be connected which means we might have been able to hang around a little longer, however I didn't want to risk it and find out 😅 Thanks very much for watching!
@@AbandonedIsleofWight could go down see if the fire doors open if so collect ya ropes and once alarm goes off hide in one of the water shoots for an hour if noone comes boom ya clear ;)
Am I right in saying that Harcourt Sands was formed by merging the neighbouring Warners camps of St. Clare and Puckpool? Happy memories of a holiday at St. Clare in the mid 70s. And didn't they film some of the scenes for Stardust - the David Essex film - at Puckpool?
That really sounds like the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 theme from the Chemical Plant Great video's by the way , I visit the Isle Of Wight a lot and have wondered about different hidden locations , caves , castles and other mysterious places there It is a shame that the U K is in a lock down , as I feel when it eventually gets lifted , visiting the island will be not as easy as before , with a lot of residents living there suspicious of any visitors having the supposed Corona Virus and all the other social distancing nonsense going on ( look up Dr Rashid Buttar ) Keep the awe some video's coming Cheers
I very much doubt the alarm is rigged to dial a number to a response team, probably just there to deter. I know there’s a few houses nearby so maybe they will call the police or something, idk. But awesome video, I’m glad I got to see it inside finally. I’m genuinely surprised it’s all in good shape, I used to go swimming there back when it was functional.
I think you're right, we got out of there fairly sharpish but I'd still stay it was a good 20-30mins of the alarm ringing with us on site. In that time I would have thought someone would have been in attendance (if it were rigged), also didn't see anyone at the main entrance when I drove past. It's crazy how clean it is, someone must be going in there to clean it as it isn't even dusty. Thanks for watching! 👍

Intriguing as to why the indoor pool has been so well preserved
Guess there is still a chance it could be re opened, when the surrounding land gets redeveloped?

Sonic the Hedgehog - Chemical Plant :)

2:52 - I assume the indoor pool complex dates from the mid/late 1980s.
So many abandoned hotels man I must go to Isle of Wight especially to the arcades that are unused and the Isle of Man has lots too apparently
Plenty about on the Island, although the large arcade in Sandown that was abandoned has now been demolished

Because we have no fixed link and the ferries are not affordable.
Is this bad to go through the building like that
