For all the sadness and unhappiness in her life, one can tell that singing brought her joy. It's nice to see Judy smile. And Mel - so young! What a great song. What a great team.

@@terrysmith8749 Mel and Judy were at each other's throats that night. When Judy flubbed the line about the toys, Mel called her out, but Judy gave it right back to him by singing "rainbows" really fly instead of "reindeer" (the actual line). They hated each other.

cnj67 Judy made an honest mistake in addressing Mel as Mort (which she corrected immediately) but Mel felt he needed to correct Judy when she made a flub in the lyrics and so she jabbed him back by substituting reindeer with “Rainbows” to let him know that She made it her own and it was Her Show. I read that years ago. Mel wanted more of a starring role and gave her a difficult time.

I have collected more than 400 different recordings of "The Christmas Song." THIS ONE is about the only version with the "intro" and the "outro" except for, Sammy Davis, Jr is one man who recorded the "intro" on his version.
This film clip was taken from "Judy Garland Christmas Show" 12-22-1963, also a VHS tape in 2002. Track #15. in my collection.

0:49 Hi! Hi Liza. (Just Liza Minelli, no biggie.) And then Mel just riffing with "I Know Why and So Do You" while Judy is singing. What a talent!

I get so emotional watching two of my most absolutely favorite people in the world Mel Tormé and Judy Garland. There was nobody like them and I miss knowing people like that exist today. Her voice was just like a butterfly and so was his. Their voices were just ecstatic and they blended so well together, may you both be singing smiling down at us as this crazy world needs to find beauty the way you both brought it to us!!❤❤❤❤❤

Judy also changed lyrics on "have yourself a merry Christmas, she sings on one version "faithful friends who are dear to us will be near to us once more, then on another version she sings "faithful friends who are near to us will be dear to us" which doesn't make sense because they're already near to her ,not far away.but a beautiful song none the less, sung by a beautiful legend.
