Secret Tecumseh Performance Mod | One Bolt On = WAY More Power!

  • We take our Manco Dingo powered by a 6 horsepower Tecumseh OHV engine out to our favorite ATV park for a thrash! We planned on doing some stock baseline performance testing, then swapping the engine to a stage 3 Predator 212cc engine. After realizing that we didn't have the proper tools to perform the swap, we decided to use the same 6 horse Tecumseh engine, but swap the stock carburetor out for a 22mm Mikuni carburetor. This fixed the performance issues caused by the stock carburetor, bypassed the governor, and flowed better than the stock carb. All of this gave the little Manco Dingo go kart a HUGE performance boost!
    Thanks for Watching!

    I had a Manco Red Fox when I was kid. My dad and I hopped it up by stiffer clutch springs in the torque converter, header pipe and by passing the governor. It would legitimately do 57 mph on the road.

    Looks like a blast. I've rebuilt and modified nearly 1000 Tecumseh Carbs and have a love for them. They will however always have a dead spot when used in a go cart. They were designed to keep a steady rpm and do a fantastic job at that. If you want to slow or even stop oil blow by, don't use multi viscosity oils: sae 30 only.

    • @greenbassboosts8872
      @greenbassboosts8872 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It says on mine to use 5w-30 in the winter under 32 degrees and SAE 30 otherwise, but it was on a snow blower and I want to use it on a bike. I was thinking of running a good 10w-40 with a dash of racing ZDDP from Lucas oil. Is that a bad idea? Should I just run the standard 30 and some ZDDP?
      I need to dismantle and clean the carb, then mount the engine, then built an exhaust before I decided on oil anyhow. I think I will go the 10w-40 route with ZDDP unless there's some big issue... Maybe I'll get back to you and let ya know if I'm blowing oil haha

      @@haydenmadigan8186 I was just about to mention that. Few people realize what a difference a change in the sonic resonance tuning of intake or exhaust manifolds can do. @rncboy2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually a stepped straight header is about the best for these engines as well as a 30 to 45 degree intake vs the 2 90 degree straight down intake that style intake is very good for lowend torque the exhaust heats that portion up resulting in more of a gas to oxygen mix then a liquid to oxygen mix if that makes any sense 🤣 the 245 cam in one with a decent carburetor a straight header will suprise one who doesn't like them.

      Kylee Bates yep that's very good advice for almost any engine, i also like to achieve roughly the same displacement as the engine in volume on both the intake manifold and the velocity stack (or intake tract) and decent length header, I did some math for a stock cam gx200 tuned for 3600rpm and came up with a total length of 550mm 1" stepped at mid point to 1.25" and 180mm of 1.5" on end, My clutch engages really hard now with that setup

I've seen my dad do it several times and they run like crazy until it blows up, and I mean blow up. If you stay moving you will probably not get hit with hot oil!

    If you put a pipe on it you can actually bolt the carb right to the factory intake manifold , I have an 11hp tecumseh here with a vm-22 and a straight pipe and it works fantastic . I also have a Manco dingo cart so these videos are great .

    Had a Manco Dingo since I was a kid, still have it. Gotta put a new torque converter in it but just like you guys experienced, it handles better than average. I've had a few different motors on it, be cautious as the frame can twist, I was running a 16 horse 2 stroke sled engine in it and bent the frame where the bearings hold the rear axle. It's a strong enough design for every day use, but was intended for a 5-6 horse motor. Keep that in mind when going up in horsepower...I know you guys lol

    I'm actually doing a Tecumseh build. I have a stock max speed on a Manco Dingo of 26mph. I've only really done the Carburetor so far. I've completely stripped the carb, Removed all crap and junk from inside. I've bent the valve arm some to allow the carb to open up fully! There is also a little screw that holds the butterfly valve to the post that rotates inside the carb inlet. There was about 1/8th of an inch of screw sticking out the otherside, I have completely shaved it down smooth flush to the valve post so it should flow air a little more better. I'm excited to see how it all performs so far. Next is the head. Gonna do the Playdough trick and see how much I can safely mill off. I'm expecting a 50+mph run with no performance parts. Just my own tweeks and mods. Definitely going to add what you guys did here and adapter for the airfilter!

    I did give a couple of tips on the comment on the last video of this kart with the tecumseh ohh60 6.5hp engine. I was thinking the 22mm carb would be to big if I remember correctly the intake valve is 23mm and the exhaust valve is 19mm it's been a while an my calibers battery is dead and I dont have a mechanical one. The valves can be changed but they are a larger valve stem. The 245 dyno cam is pretty good cam for these engines I do recommend upgrading valve springs a clone or Honda style spring is slightly larger in diameter so if those being ylused the spring pockets will have to be cut. Oh and note the crank does not have roller bearings like a 196, 212 and so on. They have a bushing style bearing same as the rod and wrist pin. So they will need to be checked. The 5hp ohh50 series cylinder head is a smaller combustion it will help the 6.0 ohh60 engine being a bigger bore. I'll have to get back with you on the bore sizes. Also the blocks of the tecumseh ohh50-65 series engines arent braced well from the casting they designed. So I would definitely recommend having someone tig weld braces on the block very costly but well worth it when the block can handle what you throw at it. They are a very interesting engine to not only run and it run well but to work on. They are very bad for valve lash if not wanting to start...they was based for road coarse racing the f200 class and they was definitely designed for racing and not longevity. I'll see what all other info I can find I wrote down on these engines.

    Run a line from the crank case vent down to the oil cap reservoir spot. It would eliminate the issue of losing oil. Maybe add a filter from the crank case down.

    I don't know where you purchased this go kart but this one is at the very least perfectly identical to the one that I had as a kid. I regret selling it back in 2016. I think this one could have been mine based on how complete it is. So much fun!

    it'd be good to see that tecumseh built. a lot of people start out with an old briggs or tecumseh and it would be good to get away from chondas for a while.
