Gy6 good engine. You can do a big bore 180cc kit and cam for not alot of money, you need to split motor and open up the cases to accept the big bore barrel. Our kart flys after that upgrade.
Don't forget to check your CVT!! The GY6 has a drain and fill plug just like a standard transmission. The vent on the top could have had water enter the CVT, you don't want to destroy those bearings. Drain fluid and fill with gear oil :)
I pulled a 50cc gy6 scooter out of a drain ditch that had been submerged for at least a month and somehow that thing still ended up working just fine, plus there was water in the engine, an absolute ton came out when I opened the dipstick. Those special battery hold-downs also double as linkage hold-downs, axle nuts, heim joints, motor mounts, and electrical terminal clamps. Personally I like to put them over my cam lobes so I get more performance.
Glad to see the dog lives! But on a different note; I have a suggestion for a project! Building an electric go-kart using hub-motors. Perhaps replace the motor with a stack of batteries, or copy Tesla and build a similar design as them for housing batteries in the floorpan. With motors, you could do 2 hubs in the back or go wild and do 4 individual hub motors for 4 wheel drive. Full long travel independent suspension. Lace the hub motors up to fat wheels for better tracking. It could be insane. And I can't say I've seen anyone else doing it.
