    My new sown lawn is slowly growing in. Still haven’t cut it, I will probably roll it to help it thicken up and I am really hoping I get a cut in before the weather gets too damp (just had a week of rain). I did everything you tell us not to: got rid of the old lawn, brought in new compost (braken mulch I used for my flower beds and it worked wonders with my clay soil)

    There is a garden saying: "the first year it sleeps, the second year it creeps and the third year it leaps." I have NEVER seem my centipede grow like it has grown these past 2 years!! I have lived here almost 25 years and have not put down anything on the lawn (except water) in at least 15 years. The soil must be ideal for the grass to spread out . And regular mowing.

    The flap Disk is easier to control because it "molds" to the contour of the original angle of the blade. It is almost "spongy" and soft. But that being said if you want to change the angle or grind out very big nicks, I would use the meatal grinding wheel.

    This year, here in Jax Fl, every time I put out Celsius it has smacked my St Aug if temps were over 85-90. I've been fighting Dove Weed, and none of the spots filled in. When I would spray, both Dove Weed & St Aug were damaged, and Dove Weed started coming back before St Aug started filling in. Used the High mix on the Celsius and spot sprayed late in the day. What am I doing wrong?

    Hey Al! Been looking for a rookie level weed control. I was looking into image but I have St Aug in the front and Bahia out back. Any recommendations that I can use on both? Have mostly clover in the Bahia and some sedges. The front is holding strong.

    • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can use the Image for Southern Lawns on bahia too. I know the front of it only shows St Aug and Centipede but inside the label they give you directions for bahia. The thing about this stuff is that it isn't going to be too good on sedges so you will want to get some Sedgehammer for that. You can spike it right in with the Image.

I'm thinking it was too hot when I applied it maybe? I've just been watering it since we've had no rain but is there anything else I should do to help it out? I'm assuming it's just stressed and will recover eventually. Would appreciate your thoughts.

    • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @fortune214
      @fortune214 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m an Australian and those blades are standard equipment on our mowers over here. In fact an american style blade is generally viewed as only coming on poor quality mowers sold in big box stores. The actual disc design was by the bloke who invented the rotary style mower he started the victa brand and it went from there

    • @fortune214
      @fortune214 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also the centrifugal force exerted on the blades means that they do not not close at speed. The wing on the end of them makes the blade heavier towards the outside. What the swing back allows though it that if you hit something that you can’t see the blade moved and the force isn’t directed through the engine shaft meaning that you have a greatly reduced risk of bending the shaft of bending your entire blade

      Correction. In this video it seems it seems as if flagship should not have been used until now?

      @@Wendy2442 sorry for the confusion Wendy - I'm coming off a fert ban so I run things outside of what the app shows. The app doesn't know who has a fert ban or who doesn't. But for you, In general what you are seeing is that if your soil temps are over 70 you will get recommendations for Flagship. Once you dip below 70 it will recommend Stress blend. If your lawn isn't looking so good and you've been applying fert and RGS every month then you possibly have something else going on. Email me some pics and your location and I'll take a look and see if I can help allyn@thelawncarenut.com

      @@Thelawncarenut Hi. I'm on an Fert van as well. But I trusted the app knew what I was allowed to put down because it has my location. I live in Orlando I'm about an hour and a 1/2 from you. So should I no longer go by what is on my calendar in my lawn app for me to do? I've been putting down What it's been telling me to put down which is "freedom" all Summer. Where should I send my photos? I'm thinking now my grass must be burnt. I put down a commercial grade fungus granule along with the spray fungus a month later. I shouldn't have fungus.Nor should I have any kind of bugs as I spray byphen as well as grubx plus. So should I no longer follow the suggestions in the calendar on my app?

    Benefits to edging before mowing? I’ve always edged after mowing.

      Personally I edge before I mow to do a pass by with the mower to blow the clippings in the grass. Less I have to use the blower on.
      Other reason is I use a 3 in one weed eater, edger, blower. It gives it a break to cool down while I cut the grass before I weed wack.

      I edge first so I can blow the junk into the lawn and crunch it up with the mower.

    I really love your products. I have an issue though. Boulder Colorado... Too many freaking dogs! They are attracted to the BioNite. I will sprinkle some leftover Milo in my rock beds just as a test, and dogs go right for it. I also can't use it in the backyard because the stress blend smells like straight up human poop. Freedom isn't so bad, and my Dad uses Flagship in Northern Illinois, but here in CO I'm pretty much 85% irrigation, so I barely achieve my 1-1.5" a week minimum, so there is no wash away( which is good) but the dogs are out of control. It doesnt help that all my neighbors have gone Xeriscape.

      Your not alone, If I put Milo down at the recommended rate of or more the dogs walking by go crazy and roll around in the grass. If apply it at 8lbs per 1k I have no issues.

    Allyn. Love your videos and they have helped me a ton for my reno. In they end it turned out pretty thin in a lot of areas. I suspect a soil issue and will be ordering a yardmastery soil test. Anyway, what are your thoughts on dormant seeding? Would love to see a video on that if you think it's worth your time. It's too late in Montana for me to overseed again this year I believe.

    I'm guessing since the 4 blades don't have enough volume they don't produce enough lift the cut the thinner weeds. I would also venture to say you may encounter the same thing with thinner grass varieties.
