    This is the information we need! Thank you, this is the best video on the Velvetiser regarding using different types of chocolate. I've watched dozens of videos and still couldn't decide whether it was worth buying as a family Christmas present. Well presented, entertaining and I enjoyed it. Subbed to annoy Collin and bought a kilo of Callebaut chocolate to boot. Thanks!

    I usually just buy a flavored chocolate bar, like Lindt or Ghirardelli, freeze it, use a box grater and shave it down, less wear and tear on the equipment and you don't have to stand over it since it's grated. You don't have to freeze the bars, but it's a bit easier to work with and blends so much easier and faster with the milk.

    I won a Velvetiser in a competition a couple of weeks ago, and when it turned up, it didn't come with any chocolate, only the 2 cups.
    To try it out, I filled with milk to the min line and topped up with water to the max. I then got a Cadbury Twirl twin pack which is about 36g from a multi pack prices at 4 for £1, and crumbled it by hand into the machine before starting it up. This worked quite well, but I did find it a bit too sweet for my taste.
    I then got some Hotel Chocolat 70% and tried it the same way, and although I liked it, I found it slightly bitter.
    Now I will put one stick of Twirl in plus half the amount of the 70%, and found this to be the perfect blend for me. I sometimes use half a stick of Galaxy Ripple instead of the Twirl which I found it tasted even better in my opinion. I will have a look at experimenting with other chocolate, perhaps giving the Cadbury Orange Twirls a go.

      Freezing didn't work that well, I would probably go in the other direction and heat it in the microwave (in the cup you'll use for the hot chocolate) then scrape it out into the Velvetiser. When finished your will also have chocolate around your mug, even better!

    • @100benih
      @100benih  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will always heat the milk to exactly the same temperature regardless of the temperature of the milk...but I get what you're saying. In the instructions it says to put some hot water in your cup (like pre-heating your cup) before pouring out your hot chocolate but I have a cheeky tip that adds a few degrees.. after you have added the chocolate, stand your cup on the top of the velvetiser so the steam fills the cup, this will pre-heat the cup enough to make a difference. Try it. Just make sure the cup doesnt fall off the velvetiser, you need to hold it in place, only 30 secs is needed.

      That sounds like a monumental faff to grind down all that chocolate and clean the machine and all the mess it makes. Take a few seconds to measure 1/4 cup of chocolate drops and add it in over 10 seconds. The hotter the milk the quicker it will dissolve and the faster you can add it.

    • @playgirlc
      @playgirlc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@100benih nope. it takes about the same amount of time, effort and mess that it takes to clean out the velvetiser - not much more than a rinse under the tap. but if you want to stand over the machine waiting for that little bit of steam you talk about, and then carefully pouring in callets and hoping they dont damage the whisk, that's up to you. that, to me, is a faff compared to 10sec at the electric grater and making enough to make several hot chocolates.
