  • As many of you know, I had a surgery last summer that I was waiting to tell you all about. I wasn't waiting to try and make a big deal of it, but more so didn't feel my story was important enough to share. Regardless, I vlogged my experience the day of my surgery and have an update here 1 year after finding my lump... I hope it can help someone out there 😊

I’m glad you’ve shared your story. I have the exact same thing but it’s under 2 cm.
My mom died due to breast cancer at 35. So when I found out I had an unusual lump I panicked 💀
So girls, ladies, anyone really, schedule yearly appointments with your doctor, your health is important!

Phew, I'm glad it wasn't worse. I have a fibroadenoma but it's small so they left it in. I've had it for at least 10 years. To anyone reading this, please get your regular screenings. I was just diagnosed with colon cancer last week and I had no symptoms. It was only discovered thru a colonoscopy. Surgery awaits me, and God knows what else, so please get those tests done. Be well, everyone.

Oh, so sorry to hear about your surgery, but so, so glad you got a screening and caught it when you did.
I’ve had about 4-5 colonoscopies so far since it runs in my family, and since I have a tortuous colon -which is an actual and not made-up medical term! - which is long and twisty, they give me the really good drugs. So there’s that.
And you get free socks. And heated blankets!
I really hope you are recovering well and tolerating any post surgical treatments.

I had the same thing two years ago. The sheer terror of finding a mass, the mass growing, the biopsy, and then the surgery was such a whirlwind of emotions. I like you, didn’t know a lot and assumed all limps are bad lumps. We live and learn my friend. Happy all went well.

Hi Cassie, I just had all of my breast milk ducks removed. I found a huge lump on New Year’s Eve in my breast. I have a very strong breast cancer history. My sister had breast cancer at age 39. Long story short the lump was actually cyst, but then they found three tiny areas of concern. The doctor removed the entire duct and a bit of my nipple and turned out to be non-cancerous at this stage. I do understand how you felt. The recovery is a little painful extraordinarily itchy, but I’m so glad I did it. I’m 48 years old. it’s so important that we know our bodies, and when something doesn’t look right, we get it checked out. Thank you for telling your story. ❤❤

I had two non-cancerous breast tumors in my 30s, one at 32 and one at 37. The first was a fibroadenoma and the other was intraductal papilloma. Both were removed for biopsy purposes and totally benign. I'd never heard of either of them before my 30s, so I think it's great that you are sharing this more widely! Something to watch out for and not something we hear about much before it happens.

I was treated for stage 3 breast cancer last November & can honestly say that my diagnosis was not what I thought typical for the illness. Firstly it was my “good breast” that became red & inflamed over night. I was referred to the breast clinic straight away where they discovered that I had cancer on the other breast. It didn’t feel like I thought it would. It just felt like a thicker breast tissue. It felt fibrous not like I expected it. I don’t have breast cancer in my direct family so it was a shock. Fighting fit now but I would just say if anyone has any changes to the norm then please don’t hesitate 🥰

hey cassie - thank you so friggin much for sharing and i'm so glad you're doing well now.
this IS going to help someone, whether immediately or 5 years down the road when someone receives this as an actual or potential diagnosis and searches for something, some answers, or someone who they can relate to. with little education about it, having no idea what it is or means or if they should worry or not. hearing your story will help. again, thank you.
i also just want to add that (as many of us do) the suckiness of comparing a benign tumour to the big C, and therefore second-guessing whether to share it with close ones or speaking about it to others only *because* it's not "as bad" as the C.
it sucks that, because it's not "worst-case scenario", you, me, we - as a society, questions whether we should talk, worry, or share the diagnosis or experience with others.
!!of course - we all know cancer sucks, it has effected probably every single person one way or another, but that doesn't diminish or erase your very valid health worry, anxiety, journey, diagnosis and recovery in any way.
i hope i've articulated what i'm trying to say correctly. cancer sucks. tumours suck. health problems at all levels of "severity" suck. and it's okay to express how much it sucks, without comparing it to other things which also suck.
please speak about it. sharing IS caring, and sharing your experience, journey and story will help others.
cassie - i was first there to watch your dermatillomania story. i had never heard of it before, but you sharing that, and educating me that is was *a thing* helped me so much. this will do the same. thank you again.💜

Added tip for anyone: I had a cyst in the wall of my uterus for 6 years. Why? Because cysts can, in some cases, go through cycles of emptying and filling up with liquids. If you go to your doctor because of severe pain, but feel fine on the day they do an ultrasound or scan, and the images look fine, you might want to ask for additional scans. My ultrasound looked fine at 14-15 years old, but on a routine scan 5 years later they found a cyst approx. 10 cm in diameter. And my gynecologist confirmed it was the thing causing me pain all those years. After removing it I never had problems again. Hardly even needed pain meds during my periods ever since.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Cassie! I found a lump (which turned out to be a cyst) and my stomach instantly dropped through the floor. I called my dr’s office that night and left a message, and had an appointment just a few days later (which resulted in a physical examination and a referral for an imaging appointment just 2 weeks later). I rushed that first appointment because I felt similarly that I didn’t want to worry my family members unnecessarily, but I also didn’t want to worry myself by keeping it secret for a prolonged period of time. I’m glad everything turned out okay for us both!

Thank you for sharing yourself and your story like this. I’m really glad to hear you’re doing well and it’s not malignant.
My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer back in 2013 and by that time it had metastasized to everywhere in her body. It was likely breast cancer that became bone cancer. She never liked going to the doctor but she said she had wished she did earlier to catch it. She lived for another 7 years with different treatments and doctors were shocked she lived as long as she did considering it had moved into her brain as well. That last year, year 7, she stopped treatments and passed at the beginning of January 2020. It was an emotional ride for the family. Hearing your story though, it’s nice to know you were able and willing to go to the doctor. Much love. ❤️

So glad you're in the clear! I've watched you for years and know the worry wort in you must have made it so hard to wait for those results especially with it being in your family. But honestly, I think even without it being in your family most people would have been scared. There is no cancer in my family on either side of my mom, but she worked on Camp Lejeune for many years and now is fighting two separate cancers on the dirty water list from there. One cancer center refused her treatment due to her age and wanted to put her on hospice😢 I took her to a Cancer Research Hospital who agreed treatment and after 3 months of chemo and radiation the lung tumor is gone and pills have shrunk the breast tumor. They wanted to work on the most aggressive cancer first so in a few weeks if the lung tumor hasn't come back then they will work on breast cancee. No one in my family as ever had cancer so it wasn't on our radar so Im totally devastated that her work environment may be the cause. She is in the lawsuit that's been in the news around here. Sorry for the rant. When I saw your thumbnail my heart dropped so im so glad for the good news. Please ask your Dr to get the test to see if you're at risk for developing breast cancer. Since it runs in your family, it should be covered😊
I had to come back and say after finishing watching that your hair looks so good. Ive been silently wishing you wouldn't comb out your curls and let them curl on their own ❤ I have the same hair and it's a no no for me to brush my hair after it dries 😂 Hair product, wide tooth comb and leave it alone.

They sent me for mammogram and ultrasound and they ended up finding 2 Fibroadenomas and said I have very dense breasts. Mine were much smaller so I go back in April for another mammogram and ultrasound to check to see if they’re growing and if anything needs to be done about them. It’s very scary. Last August I had to have 2 11CM ovarian cystic tumors, both tubes, an ovary removed, and was diagnosed with Endometriosis 😢
I put my pain off for years before getting things checked out and ultimately got my chance to have children taken from my own negligence. Dr says I didn't and it was out of my control, but that's not how I feel about it. It has been a very long journey with my health these past few years.

Hi Cassie! I’m so glad you sought medical attention! And I’m so glad you’re ok and you had it removed! I had no idea about those kinds of tumours or lumps. All I thought were cancerous. My learning in school was “if it’s a lump, go in”

Thanks for sharing! I had a similar experience to you in 2018, I was 29. Mine was benign and small enough that we didn’t do surgery. We just did six month follow-up to make sure it hadn’t grown. So far each obgyn appt I’ve had no change for the worse, but that week of waiting for results was horrible!

When i was 20, i had breast milk that came out the dark green color of Nyquil. I thought it was an infected milk duct, but my OB felt around and told me there was a lump...when i didnt feel it myself because of my milk glands (i was obviously breast feeding). I had an ultrasound done and it was a small BENIGN fibroid on one of my milk glands that was producing the weird color. I will never forget how SCARED i was just finding out there was a lump that needed to be checked out. More women need to be taught that more often than not....a lump isnt cancer so that more women dont get that cold fear in their gut when they feel it and will be more willing to check it out immediately.

I had a fibroadenoma found at my first mammogram. It wasn't something I could feel, but it was found which triggered an anxiety storm for me. I didn't have to get mine removed (must be small) but I do wish I had known about stuff like this well before my first mammogram! You're not the only one that hadn't heard about something like this, I hadn't either. To me in my mind it was "there's a tumor, it has to be cancer" cause I didn't know any better! And unfortunately my doctor didn't want to give me much info and while the hospital gave me SOME info (after I had a breakdown there) it just wasn't something that helped, especially when it was found.
They really need to educate women more about what could be found. They tell us to do self exams but they don't explain what could be found, including just the way normal tissue feels or if one is fibro cystic. Honestly, it left a really bitter taste regarding the medical industry in general for me. It really seems to me like they purposely keep us in the dark so we rush in to get it checked and to make sure we get mammograms. Obviously, if you find something it should be checked out since we won't know WHAT it is til it's checked out, but education before something like that happens goes a long way to preventing unnecessary anxiety.
Glad that it all went well for you! And it's great that you did talk about it cause it may very well help out a woman at some point. Cause sadly, imo, the professionals do a poor job of preparing women.

I’m so glad you’re ok Cassie! Also glad you’ve shared your story to help bring breast awareness. Been a mammographer for over 10 yrs, wanted to add one thing regarding cancerous vs non cancerous tumors, they may not always be clear through touch. The appearance of a tumor, whether smooth or jagged is not visible until after it’s biopsied. ALWAYS get a lump checked out by a Dr and do not prolong the check. If it’s cancerous and you’re relatively young, it will grow very fast. Yearly mammogram after 40 YO and self breast exams monthly in between is recommended.
