The stupidest thing is that Star Wars already had one of the strongest female leads of all time when it was originally written. Leia is the leader of the Rebellion which is why she gets captured in the first movie. Leia’s main character features are that she’s brave, smart, and respected. The galaxy is dominated by a totalitarian regime that blows her home planet up in front of her, and her response is “$&@ you, come get these rebel hands.” She’s the definition of a badass, well written female character.

And now they simply have unbelievable characters that would apparently never get captured while having no training (rey). Optional: sob back story of being abandoned, orphaned or lgbtq being their entire backstory. Or my favorite: being bullied for their skin color. It's just so tiring.

Wait. They chose to break canon and bring back a character but they picked the guy who has a harem because his species genetically requires it so much that the jedi made an exception for their anti-attachment stuff? Wow. Unless they retconned that as well this just indicates they aren't even vaguely familiar with the source material.

As a straight female who always loved Star Wars, ever since I was around 10 years old, watched and loved all things sci-fi and action, played outside with the boys, lightsaber duels, hockey, etc. I can't stand what is happening to all things we loved growing up and now. As you said, strong females and strong female leads have been around forever, it isn't new, and it was typically done quite badass back in the day! I'm also sick of the treatment of men, god forbid they show they are strong and think for themselves and bam tOxIc & sExIsT! 🙄People need to focus on quality, and spare us with their bullshit agendas.

I think it's an important point : a show shouldn't gatekeep its fandom. A fandom who would reject fans because of their gender or skin colour would be utterly rotten.
But it doesn't have to catter to them just for the sake of inclusivity. Just be good, and people will decide if they want to be fans or not, there's enough room for everybody (I don't like Bridgerton, I don't like One Piece, I'm not gonna tell people to change them so I can like them. It's honestly insane that Disney was handed a franchise with a huge, long lasting and loyal fanbase and managed to destroy it. They've literally rewritten and retconned so much of the original story and original characters to the point that it's almost unrecognizable.
It's also really wild to write a bunch of crap characters, hyper specific social ideas, and lazy story lines and then blame fans when they point out that it's trash. I still haven't gotten over Rei's "this dagger has done terrible things!!" while she's toting around the Youngling Slayer 5000. It's just a bunch of people who figured out in a meeting one day that they can somehow blame other people for their own poor performance and no one had the decency to correct it. If the vast majority of people hate your show, and have been hating what you've been doing for some time, maybe consider that hate watching doesn't keep people around that long. It's actual fans who keep giving your content a shot because maaaaaaaaaaybe this time will be different. People loved the Mandalorian even though it was basically "someone kidnapped baby Yoda!! We've gotta get him back!! *baby Yoda eats something and coos*" rinse and repeat. It was reasonably close to the Star Wars setting and didn't retcon anything too crazy because it mostly created its own story in the bounds of that setting or kill off any beloved characters with absurd deaths. It's especially pathetic to try to act like they're trying to 'fight racism!!' with Star Wars in any capacity when THEY REMOVED FINN from the posters for other countries and they edit out so much to show in the Middle East that this trash probably isn't even available there.
The last 3 movies are just blatant attempts at taking what made any popular MALE character and basically trying to replace them with a new character meant to be a fan favorite, usually as a female. Luke is no longer the chosen one, Leia is a Jedi somehow, force healing was suddenly a thing even though soooo many characters have died that apparently didn't need to. At a certain point, it's better to just create actual new stories that at least somewhat stick to the lore.
Space lesbian witches who can reproduce without a male is literally just someone's "what is the Most Feminist you could be? Let's make them that." fantasy. They literally could have had the most basic storyline and a bunch of good action scenes and gotten away with it. A lot of action movies these days are basically like "Here is the justification for a bunch of cool action scenes. Here are the cool action scenes. Good guys win, the day is saved, roll credits." They've gotten so far away from the story tropes people know and love that when you add in all the bullshit it becomes unbearable. The original trilogy worked because people love the story of the heroic journey. The prequels work because it tells the backstory of how Anakin's heroic journey ended with him as the villain. People hated the most recent trilogy because it gave Rei all the abilities others had to work for, and then some more on top, for no reason. They tried to retcon that too but even that was lame. If they had written the Acolyte as it's own IP and not part of Star Wars, just a whodunit set in space, it probably wouldn't have been nearly as hated.
At this point I honestly think they're just trying to capitalize on the hate watching because someone has to be approving funding for this and there's no way they don't see the trends in their audience scores and content.
Also, to be fair, if I realized I had to fight a Wookie after I had already set out on a journey for revenge with my bare hands, I probably would have given up too lol

We’ve had strong female leads like Leia and Jyn and other strong female characters such as Ashoka, Padme, Asaj Ventress, Bo Katan (she’s better in TCW). The first one was fine but still had loads of (in my opinion, and it seems a lot of peoples,) fixable problems, but still lots of the following two however were horrendously done. But when shit like the Acolyte bombs the media always acts like there's a problem with the viewers. Like Ellen Ripley was a strong bad ass woman protagonist 45 fucking years ago.
The reason these crap movies, games, and TV shows fail isn't because 'ooga booga white cis men' it's because they're objectively bad. They're poorly written, poorly cast, and only ever serve to push a political agenda, and hey maybe we need more women of color in media, fine, but THIS?! Diversity is not usually an issue, it's the inappropriate diversity box ticking that is a problem...
For example, if you have a solitary group of people that are all white but that one main character from that group is black for no reason other than diversity then you have messed up.
    Why are they there?
Take the "Not-Hobbits" on the show Rings of Power, a solitary group that wants nothing to do with outsiders. Yet... They are a very diverse group.
The main female protagonist Nori is whiter than a glass of milk and while her daddy is white, her mother is a person of colour.
Now this is not a problem if they lived somewhere like New York and socialised with the outside world but they don't, so where did the genetic diversity come from?
Do they meet with other "Not-Hobbits" and exchange mates during their migration?
Or when they get to their winter destination is it like a city where all young people get to mingle, fall in love, marry, start families, and possibly tribes of their own?
Why is there diversity in a group of beings that shouldn't have any due to their chosen isolation?

She was an extremely active character that often lead the charge. Not only that, but Padme was a similarly active, strong female character. A whole ass QUEEN and SENATOR who took her roles very seriously. On top of that, she was a beautiful wife who supported and cared for Anakin as he grew into a man. But, please Disney, keep yapping about how women have been neglected in Star Wars. Obviously the cast is more male leaning because at it's core, Star Wars is an epic Sci-Fi franchise with action, war and tons of battle and politics. Be realistic. Our current militia is heavily made of men (more than 80% men), it's just the facts. It's insane to call Star Wars a patriarch when it deals with male dominated topics and themes.
EDIT: As the replies are mentioning, I completely forgot to mention the badass females from The Clone Wars. Some replies list them all and I'd like to highlight Ahsoka (she's genuinely my favorite character, Anakin being my second. I can't believe I forgot to mention TCW characters). Ahsoka's dual wielding was incredibly epic and unique and her character arc over the show was BY FAR one of the most in-depth ones in Star Wars. Ahsoka is the prime example of how George Lucas's Star Wars was NOT AT ALL snoozing when it came to females.
And Asajj Ventress was so compelling and had a very well-written personality and inner conflict. Seeing a dark side female that was actually written really well is why I can't take any of Disney's villains today seriously, lol.

On the comment about male dominated genres and movies/shows that are made "specifically for men".
That's silly. Lord of the Rings was written by a man that focused on men. But both men and women enjoy it.
Blade was, according to Asmon, written for men. It targets men who enjoy the action-packed content of supernatural fights with guns and blood. But both men and women enjoy it.
The ISSUE is that a lot of these new writers are pushing an agenda way too hard. There's NOTHING wrong with adding women to shows/movies, and there's nothing wrong with adding characters with different sexualities. In fact, it should be encouraged, but not thrown so hard in our faces that it's obvious it was done intentionally rather than naturally.
They do not respect the original content, or the original stories. If they want to incorporate something new and creative to bring in a wider audience, you cannot beat down and rip apart the original so completely that even the blind can see the visual intention. I love Star Wars, I love Star Trek. Back in the day, men will claim they aren't shows/movies catered to women. But it's not about catering to a gender. It's about writing something that is enjoyable without spitting on the fanbase.

Asmon says he doesn’t care about lore as long as the story is good. This is an idiotic take on his part because lore is supposed to be world building which adds structure to the current events. History in real life is important to get right because if people change it at any given moment then it’ll be inconsistent. Very much in shows and movies if the lore isn’t consistent then it’ll make the show less appealing.
Amon’s ideology boils down to this. “I only eat burgers so I don’t care if the restaurant changes their menu, as long as they have burgers I’m happy” which isn’t bad on its own but then him saying he doesn’t care about lore is him saying “I don’t care if others don’t get what they want, as long as I get what I want then I’m happy”.

People can have different strengths and weaknesses and it doesn’t make them less worthy of respect. If men and women respect each other and we are in a meritocracy (which I think we are), then we don’t need cringey shows like this. More men like Star Wars, and the women who do like Star Wars like it as it is!! If you change it then it’s something else. We can like different things and that’s OK. That’s not bad. It's so noticeable and boringly predictable at this point that even South Park parodied it. And now when people send a clear message back, let's see what Disney does with it... Oh look, what a surprise: fan-baiting, blaming others to cope for their own incompetence and being out of touch, calling the people that made the franchise great to begin with toxic ists 'n phobes. It's so unbelievably petty this shit couldn't have been headed by anyone other than women (yes, shots fired; you've had close to a decade now and billions of dollars to prove us wrong, and what did ya choose to do, what did ya do, Disney?)

There have always been girl fans of Star Wars. Back then it wasn't considered a boy thing, it was an everyone thing. I remember all the little girls on the playground after Return of the Jedi came out wanted to be Princess Leia, me included. The difference from now is the female fans liked Star Wars as it was. Sure, we might have liked to have a few more women characters to choose from, but we loved the series, characters, and weren't looking for changes. We didn't need to be pandered to, the writing was already good enough to appeal to all kinds of people. I don't appreciate being told I'm a toxic man for being an old school female fan that appreciates good writing.
