What if I told you that not every game has to be marketed to you? You are free to ignore them and let them crumble, but most "woke" games are the most played. ITs rare that a edgy game gets publicity. Wukong, Space Marine 2, Helldivers show that both demographics can succeed in todays market alongside the "woke" titles.

They know that female oriented games don't sell. Gaming is still a male majority hobby. I believe they don't care about gender anymore when making games. They make games with a target ages in mind specifically. This is why kids games are the biggest market now and gaming in general has become less adult. Entertainment appeals to the the fantasy. Not political stuff that happens in real life. Yes, its how it's presented. You can have a gay character and be written well. But most of these characters aren't. They seem forced. It's not only that. How do you make a gay character appeal to the audience when majority of people in US are straight? We can't appeal to those we cannot understand. Even if you are gay. Try getting a straight person to understand how a gay persons love story feels like. A story puts you the reader or watcher in the shoes of the character. And it's very difficult to put a person who's straight into the shoes of a gay person. We don't understand.
I mean, you can. You can make a story about how your parents helped you get a job. And then you try something different and shine. Or a story where you are the brother that the parents ignored because they thought the other sibling would be the one who become somebody. And then a situation comes up where you need to save the situation. It is pretty easy. Problem is that these writers, can not tell a basic story.
Creativity has alway been a tool to work through ones traumata and the relationship to your parents can be the source of alot of deep trauma. Also writing a story about overcoming your parents is right there at the base of modern storytelling when Zeus and his siblings take on his father Kronos and the other titans. Realising your parents are just normal people and not gods is a common trope, especially in coming-of-age-stories. Its when you realise they are vulnerable or, get this, not infallible, can make mistakes and can be wrong. Also, you don't know what a poet is.

As a girl/teen I loved playing the first 3 gears of war. I never needed or wanted to play a female in the game, it was scary enough being a man against the monsters. Marcus and dom were inspiring, and I cried every time I completed it

Different types of people naturally gravitate towards and are naturally suited for certain types of jobs. Go to a grocery store. There will be "diverse" women in the deli, less "diverse" women in the bakery, very likely zero women in the meat department. And the "men" working in the jewelry department look a lot different then the ones cutting meat. DEI is unnatural and tries to shove people into positions they are not naturally suited for or qualified for.

Sarah Connor is a girl boss that I can root for as a straight man. She’s endearing, has a great backstory, and knows her limits as a female despite the odds stacked against her favor with gigachad Schwarzenegger chasing after her. I love stories that aren’t afraid to explore weaknesses of the main character. Some of the best shows like Good Time, Mr Robot, and Fight Club really explore those weaknesses and it makes for compelling storytelling. They just have really dumb writers at these media corporations nowadays. One could argue it’s a side effect of gen z and millennial brainrot. I really related to Asmon calling out the millennial generation (my generation) for being antisocial and inauthentic. Inauthentic obnoxious people seem to thrive in the corporate setting.
Why not? Video games can be anything you want them to be really. Infinite money makers(live service slops with few hits like Helldivers), incredible single player rollercoasters(Uncharted, God of War) and reflections of our existence(Nier Automata, 13 Sentinels). I don't mind some games being this warped version that Social media has if they're done well, I don't think video games should be stopped at the point of escapism and reality because some truly amazing stories can be told beyond just good old escapism. The comparison would be making a man watch a chickflick in which we cannot understand why women love these types of movies or shows. The reason why is because a game will place you the audience into the characters shoes. And something like their sexuality comes into the mix. straight men cannot understand. It's not because we hate gay people that's not the case at all. It's just we cannot understand because it's not our appeal. The game does not appeal to the people they are trying to sell it to. I'll give you an example. Master Chief. What makes him appealing? He represents hope, survival, etc. Men can see and appeal to him because they themselves can relate. Asterion. What makes him appealing? His sassyness appeals to the female fantasy. Every good written character has something that the audience when placed into their shoes can relate to. And if the character is openly gay and acts gay when you're asking a straight person to place themselves into their shoes. They can't understand it. Because we cannot relate.

Also I guess it would be more accurate to say they hate straight male gamers, but that is the majority of the consumer base whether they want to admit it or not. It’s weird masculinity is seen as inherently bad and gatekeeping women out of places when, ignoring the fact you can just make games for women, it implies it’s women who have an issue with masculinity and are therefore sexist.
I don’t have an issue playing a game that’s fun just because it has female protagonists or feminine themes, so why is it not the same the other way around and why is it everyone else’s issue?

They know that female oriented games don't sell. Gaming is still a male majority hobby. I believe they don't care about gender anymore when making games. They make games with a target ages in mind specifically. This is why kids games are the biggest market now and gaming in general has become less adult. They insert lgbt agendas into games because they know kids don't care about those things so they can get away with it. Companies have to meet diversity quotas so the lgbt employees don't sue and cause bad press.

Entertainment appeals to the the fantasy. Not political stuff that happens in real life. Yes, its how it's presented. You can have a gay character and be written well. But most of these characters aren't. They seem forced. It's not only that. How do you make a gay character appeal to the audience when majority of people in US are straight? We can't appeal to those we cannot understand. Even if you are gay. Try getting a straight person to understand how a gay persons love story feels like. A story puts you the reader or watcher in the shoes of the character. And it's very difficult to put a person who's straight into the shoes of a gay person. We don't understand.
I mean, you can. You can make a story about how your parents helped you get a job. And then you try something different and shine.
Or a story where you are the brother that the parents ignored because they thought the other sibling would be the one who become somebody. And then a situation comes up where you need to save the situation.
It is pretty easy.
Problem is that these writers, can not tell a basic story.
Creativity has alway been a tool to work through ones traumata and the relationship to your parents can be the source of alot of deep trauma.
Also writing a story about overcoming your parents is right there at the base of modern storytelling when Zeus and his siblings take on his father Kronos and the other titans.
Realising your parents are just normal people and not gods is a common trope, especially in coming-of-age-stories. Its when you realise they are vulnerable or, get this, not infallible, can make mistakes and can be wrong.

Sarah Connor is a girl boss that I can root for as a straight man. She’s endearing, has a great backstory, and knows her limits as a female despite the odds stacked against her favor with gigachad Schwarzenegger chasing after her.
I love stories that aren’t afraid to explore weaknesses of the main character. Some of the best shows like Good Time, Mr Robot, and Fight Club really explore those weaknesses and it makes for compelling storytelling.

Why not? Video games can be anything you want them to be really. Infinite money makers(live service slops with few hits like Helldivers), incredible single player rollercoasters(Uncharted, God of War) and reflections of our existence(Nier Automata, 13 Sentinels). Maybe I didn't phrase the last one very well but I hope you get what I mean. I don't mind some games being this warped version that Social media has if they're done well, I don't think video games should be stopped at the point of escapism and reality because some truly amazing stories can be told beyond just good old escapism. I personally learnt some life changing stuff from playing games and I don't want that to be lost.

The comparison would be making a man watch a chickflick in which we cannot understand why women love these types of movies or shows. The reason why is because a game will place you the audience into the characters shoes. And something like their sexuality comes into the mix. straight men cannot understand. It's not because we hate gay people that's not the case at all. It's just we cannot understand because it's not our appeal. The game does not appeal to the people they are trying to sell it to. I'll give you an example. Master Chief. What makes him appealing? He represents hope, survival, etc. Men can see and appeal to him because they themselves can relate. Asterion. What makes him appealing? His sassyness appeals to the female fantasy. Every good written character has something that the audience when placed into their shoes can relate to. And if the character is openly gay and acts gay when you're asking a straight person to place themselves into their shoes. They can't understand it. Because we cannot relate.

I don't care about the identity of a character unless it's a core part of the overall story, if the character is well written, I couldn't care less about anything else. Also, what happened to needing uniqueness in the industry? I have seen plenty of videos about how the industry is stale now because of every company just doing the same thing in slightly different ways, isn't it good to deviate a bit from the norm? Again, using the identity of a character as a excuse for bad writing is stupid and I don't support it but if the character is well written, I don't care what identity the character has. If every game appeals to the core audience like Sony games, I find it hard to enjoy them because I don't see them doing anything that unique but I love games like The Ascent, Journey, Elden Ring, BG3, Alan Wake 2 etc. Even Forspoken had some great unique magic combat and I enjoyed it for that even if the rest was kind of shit.
TLDR; If you write a good character, give it whatever gender or race you want, I don't care. Even if I don't fully relate, I can empathize atleast a little.

They had to rewrite their game engine and haphazardly put together Halo 2 in about 8 months. But even then the game came out a success because the devs have actual talent/skill.

I am a game developer for a small studio and I had a casual conversation with one of our designers (she has a lot more experience in the industry than me) and she told me, like it was a normal thing, that most designers and publishers in fact hate video games with a passion...

"What if alternate universe but genders are swapped around" has been a trope for like, literally as long as pop culture has existed. Mr. Freeze having a Popsicle wife was introduced *after* the original debut of the character, several decades after. He was named Mr. Zero originally and then swapped for the cartoon. Not the 90s one. The 60s one. It wasn't until the 90s that he was reinvented as the tragic character that's popular today- I don't see people complaining and going "UGH WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST MAKE A NEW CHARACTER THEN-"
