How about we get Respawn to make a Bounty Hunter or Republic Commando game? Leaning more into their Titanfall team. I think that would be big-money Star Wars territory.
OMG I'd love a Republic Commando game! But... Respawn are owned by EA. EA hates singleplayer games because they can't find a way to get away with over-the-top (predatory) monetization in it.
You will NEVER get that simply because that’s not what Star Wars is anymore. It’s the moment Disney bought the rights, you had to accept that it was going to a big, hollow franchise to print money. What prints money is family friendly fun with ‘cool action set pieces’, ‘hilarious and relatable dialogue’ (“THEY FLY NOW????”), and safe, easy storylines that do not dare challenge the audience EVEN SLIGHTLY. That’s Disney, bud. They did the same to Marvel - it’s like when, as a kid, you’d mix all the amazing colours of playdough together and you’d be left with tofu grey. Watching this video I can’t help but think that Outlaws has a lot of elements I would have wanted in Starfield. The open world exploration (no walking borders), the smooth transition from being on a planet to going into space, and not being so graphically demanding on PC users.
Just finished the game and it was great! Story is good and was long enough for me. Worlds are well made and game has a lot of content imo. Game physics are also great. First game for a long time which gave me ”empty” feeling after I finished it. I absolutely recommend it for Star Wars fans.

@@diegoestmar559 Reminds me when a friend asked how a game was, and I said it was about 6 out of 10, and they're like "wtf?! why so low a score?" like huh? 5-10 should be right down the middle, not bad, not good, very average. Yet if you tell someone a game is 6 out of 10, they act like you just said it was a 2.
I like the game, it got better after a few hours. I m about 10 hours in. I like the fact that it pushes you to explore, it doesn't always show you the exact location of the stuff you need to find. Like the old games around 2000 did. Also, the fact that you can go and make another mission while one is on going, it s pretty interesting.
I personally was disappointed with Jedi survivor,it was enjoyable but the map in a way was just too big and bland. I really hate how the entire game was essentially set on one planet that was pretty bland. The story, had some cool moments but mid way through it’s just super uninteresting until it picks up at the end.
They learn it from Kenobi show 😂😂 I don't know how are they so stupid... Just give her a baton for finishing moves for melee stealth and it would be so much more believable.
I was on the fence about buying this, for quite a while, but in the end took the risk and I'm really glad I did. I was 8 when the original 77 film came out, and although not a massive Star wars geek, have enjoyed the films and TV series. Sure there are some things about the game that seem a bit dumb - the not being able to pick up and keep weapons for example. But...there is loads to do and explore and its very immersive, you really feel part of the world. The spaceship stuff is a massive improvement on Starfield (too many loading screens) and the puzzle element is cool - finding the right stealth route through a space station without getting caught, the mini parkour sections. -if you do get caught, there are plenty of checkpoints, so its never too frustrating. There is a huge amount to explore here, the sound and visuals are great (the close ups of some characters are a bit basic, but not. deal breaker). Compared to recent Ubisoft games (Valhalla and Mirage) this is really good stuff - i'd say for anyone who enjoyed Borderlands or maybe Cyberpunk, take a risk with this, sure there are some parts of the game that could be improved, and maybe they will patch them, but it's top quality fun and pure escapism, highly recommended here :)
I played the prologue last night, it took me about 90 minutes and I thought it was pretty average. A 6 out of 10, a 7 if you love Star Wars. My biggest gripe was that I had the game set at the highest difficulty and somewhere along the way I had to check if I actually did that because it was so easy, but it was indeed the hardest difficulty. I'm hoping the quality will pick up after the prologue. But if it stays at this 7 it is still a gorgeous game where I get to explore more of the Star Wars universe, which I love. I also couldn't stop myself from thinking they made Kay ugly on purpose whenever she was in full view. I really wish I didn't know about that.
I am actually more excited due to it being removed from the usual star wars stuff... like I am someone who is a fan of star wars universe itself but don't care much for the usual main story ... to play as a norm person that isn't a jedi or secret jedi etc or having the empire reign as a main or major story element antagonist entity... So you say higher score if star wars fan? Why do you say that since it seems like pretty removed from star wars usual theme and simply existing in the same universe?
I don't, but if you like it don't worry about what others think. I like a lot of Idea Factory's games, but most people look at me side eyed because of it.
I'm with you. Ubi makes really good mid priced games. If you pay full price you will be disappointed. Which is a shame, some of them have some really cool ideas that they just don't quite land.
I played every AC at launch. Since AC1. big AC fan. Read all the books, comics, even played all the mobile games, PSP games, DS games, even the board game. The new prince of persia was also so good the demo convinced me to buy it. Don't regret it. Also played wildlands and breakpoint. Those games are so much fun. Also played siege at launch for about 2 years. For honor is unique. Division is also still going strong but was too time consuming for me. Far cry primal was my favorite and I still love that game. Ubi makes some good games. People just hate cause it's the cool easy thing to do
The fact that Ubisoft made this game is almost surprising. It’s not like a HUGE “woah, this game is amazing!” But an Owen Wilson type of “wow, this is amazing”.
Crime and adventure! And no nude stuff. What is better than having to steal from weak people and having a hard time overall and again no nude stuff? Isn't that every man's dream living past 25?😅
Oooh! Looks decent and I love the smooth animations. I’m not a star wars guy but might try it. You’re the only person I trust with game reviews gameranx, please don’t get canceled.
There are plenty of Ubisoft games that are a good time. AC Odyssey, OC Origins, Far Cry 6. But they are mindless open world schlock. This game is TRYING to be more than that but it doesn't succeed, I think that's part of the big issue with it.
Same here. I find their recent games to be good "time-wasters" when I don't really have any other games to play or something else to do and they're on sale. You can see that they try to do something new with each game but their execution generally falls flat so you just end up playing an average/good game.
exactly my thoughts. is it a masterpiece? hell no. is it simple open world good time in a star wars universe? yes it is. nothing wrong with that. a game can be mediocre and fun at the same time. not every game is a masterpiece and dont have to be. sometimes i just want to turn my brain off and drive some speeder bikes and shoot some stormtroopers.
This is a good game. Honestly I appreciated that it was streamlined and straight forward. Would have added duels and more speeder/ship customization but the core here is very good imo
Jake I know there are lots of comments and you probably won’t see this, but I wonder if you guys ever get burned out from playing games? Like sometimes I can’t play even my favorite games and appreciate them let alone try new ones.
I really love how Jake takes into account the subjectivity of opinions when it comes to a game’s quality. From this review, despite the fact that I know I wouldn’t enjoy this game, I’m able to see what people would enjoy. I’m glad there’s a reviewer who can ignore objectivity because with video games over any other medium, a player’s personal preference can completely change the quality of a game
Thanks for the not fully negative review, the fandom is quite toxic at the moment but I'm happy to find someone who actually has good things to say about the game rather than just hate on it. I'll most definitely buy it because walking around and taking in the surroundings sounds like a childhood dream
A video talking about the Hero Shooter game Concord, its 1,300,000 concurrent players online and its 9,000,000 peak concurrent Concord players is next on this channels to do list.
I got it Day 1 because I am a patient Star Wars fan. I don't get easily pissed off at things (except changing the Fett man's voice in ESB and ROJ). I really like the open world. Of course nothing is going to touch RDR2, but love the open planets and space. Repetitive actions don't bother me, as long as it's at least enjoyable. Trying to get into gang locations with a poor or bad rep does suck, but sneaking works. My biggest complaint is trying to find things or complete things that aren't easily noticeable, like having to shoot a rock to expose a button or where to swing from. I like the game a lot and am not disappointed by it, yet
Did they fix my biggest issue with the demo? : The protagonist had constant verbal diarrhea, in the same style as Forspoken. She constantly had to comment about whatever she was doing, whether it was in the middle of a firefight, or just jogging down a hallway. For some reason they felt it was essential for the character to not go more than 10 seconds without making some inane comment, because that's somehow "immersive", even though only people with tinfoil hats go around talking to themselves all the time.
If they do it right it works.. Nathan Drake was always giving commentary, but it felt natural and the expression was on point with whatever scenario was current with the gameplay
Review is honest and fair. Feel the same about it. Maybe +/- 13 hours in and its the classic Ubisoft open world game mechanics once again with a seriously beautiful Star Wars skin. I really, really wanted this to be diffrent, but knew deep down in my heart what I was buying.
seeing the different opinions, they're mostly talking about Ubisoft when mentioning the negatives which makes me think that this game would've been received much more positively if Ubisoft's name wasn't attached a case study on how to destroy your brand name
I would have been less skeptical if ubisofts name wasn't on it. Only a little because let's be honest, it's a video game coming out in 2024 it's probably not going to be great
I guess it depends on how you’re measuring a years quality. The game industry just keeps getting bigger and turning out more and more titles. That means more and more hits and more and more misses. Personally in the year 2024 there’s not a chance I’d buy any game day one because the chance of it being a buggy mtx shitheap despite fancy trailers and deceptive “review copies” are way too high for my taste. So how could I call this “one of the greatest years ever” when the industry is such a money grubbing pit? On the other hand if I just measured it as “number of games that turned out good/great” then 2024 is an all time record breaker right up until next year. There are more good games out this year than I could possibly find time to play. So from a different perspective you’re right and this is one of the greatest years in gaming 🤷♂️
@johnvalliant261 What are the games that came out this year that were deceptive with their trailers and came out buggy and filled with mtx? Cause I can't really think of much
@@maroon7894 I'd say Dragons Dogma 2 comes closest to hitting every point there. I could never call the followup to Dragons Dogma a shitheap because I loved the first too much. But the trailers helped hide the performance issues and the review copies they sent out (including to gameranx) did not include the mtx that appeared in the game itself, so they couldnt factor it into their review. IIRC Gameranx actually came out with a second video, addressing the issues that weren't in their original review. You're correct though in that there were few if any that managed to hit *all* the negatives I mentioned.
I bought it and started playing yesterday. Im one of the people that grew up with Star Wars. Saw ROJ with my dad at the Theater in 84. Its special to me (or it was) even after only a few hours im not being pulled in . Im hoping its just a slow start. The Main Character looks kinda weird too . Its hard to relate to her story and motives.
No they aren't EA is. Ubi at least puts out better games than EA and usually games that are more fun Their love service games are still some of the longest running and supported. Even keep decent to good player numbers. Most their games are mid to good. None are outright terrible. People hate Ubi cause it's the "cool" and thing to do. But mid isn't a bad thing. Still fun and a usually a good game to play in your spare time. All these haters need to get over themselves
Ah yes, the company that tries to do more original things and anything new for that matter, compared to Elden Souls... But hey, you all keep enjoying FromSoft just copying and pasting 80% of it's games and calling it a brand new groundbreaking IP, lol.
This game is no silk purse. If this game was a sal's ear customers would consider it an game upgrade. Ubisoft said get used to not owning their games. So I don't buy Ubisoft games. "BY YOUR COMMAND!" Isn't that how an affirmative was conveyed in the original Battlestar Galatica?
I was kind of on the fence about it, but I enjoyed your explanation and the gameplay looks fun. I might pick it up soon, or maybe I'll take your advice and wait for a sale :D
"I'm gonna catch some flak for this, but I think it's just ok" I think you're alright man, it's an ubisoft game. We all knew exactly what it was gonna a be from the 1st gameplay trailer. All the same I'm really looking forward to picking up the compete edition on sale. It's probably like 18 months max.
@Xaveston for sure, it would also be nice if we could recognize there a lot of games that are a 6 or 7 out of 10 that are totally legitimate and fun. I wish there were still more nuance to game reviews, if it's not an 8.5 or above a game is deemed some kind of untouchable garbage fire.
What a dumb comment. Unless you're a time traveller you didn't know anything. You couldn't make it more obvious that you don't play anything from Ubisoft if you tried. Far Cry (before 6 which was disappointing) Assassin's Creed Origins/Odyssey etc, Avatar game was good too, that's just the recent stuff. Not to mention their willingness to experiment and try new things in main entries and especially spin-off games within a series. Far more so than most publishers who just play it safe. Grow up and get a clue.
@cenciende9401 name anything remotely "experimental" Ubisoft has done beyond Rabbids v. Mario. Bloated open world games are their thing. If you have fun checking off 500 POIs on a world map, more power to you. If you have fun with them, that's great, really. I'm not telling anyone they're wrong for enjoying them, I just know what to expect, and nothing they've done recently changed my mind. You don't need to take criticism of something you like as a personal attack. Heck, I even said I was interested in playing this flavor of Ubi's open world, I'm just not expecting any surprises, that's ok. If you want to break it down, though (these are my opinions, not objective facts) Valhalla was a mess of genres that was the furthest departure from the original semi-steath based games (why does AC game need Diablo style stat tweaking on gear?). Watch Dogs 2 admittedly tried something novel, but roguelite characters in an open world narrative game aren't compelling. Ghost Recon's open world forays are also the same: huge world without too many interesting things to do with tacked on and pointless RPG mechanics. I honedty can't comment on Farcry, FPS games just aren't my thing, so same goes for Xdefiant and Seige.
Isn't it made by massive entertainment and just being released under the ubisoft banner? Hence why it is spared the usual cliche ubisoft elements like... check list quests, tower climbing, etc...?

What prints money is family friendly fun with ‘cool action set pieces’, ‘hilarious and relatable dialogue’ (“THEY FLY NOW????”), and safe, easy storylines that do not dare challenge the audience EVEN SLIGHTLY.

Thanks for a well-articulated and actually honest/detailed review. Very helpful.

For some reason they felt it was essential for the character to not go more than 10 seconds without making some inane comment, because that's somehow "immersive", even though only people with tinfoil hats go around talking to themselves all the time.
The Aloy problem.
If they do it right it works.. Nathan Drake was always giving commentary, but it felt natural and the expression was on point with whatever scenario was current with the gameplay
@@ModestPavement Bro thats why I never played Horizon 2.. Aloy was so fu.... annoying
@robot-hive2022 keep avoiding it then lol. It's so much worse in the sequel.
Nathan Drake talks to himself
Review is honest and fair. Feel the same about it. Maybe +/- 13 hours in and its the classic Ubisoft open world game mechanics once again with a seriously beautiful Star Wars skin. I really, really wanted this to be diffrent, but knew deep down in my heart what I was buying.
Patiently waiting for 3rd Jedi: Cal Kestis game.
Or next KOTOR...
seeing the different opinions, they're mostly talking about Ubisoft when mentioning the negatives which makes me think that this game would've been received much more positively if Ubisoft's name wasn't attached
a case study on how to destroy your brand name
I would have been less skeptical if ubisofts name wasn't on it. Only a little because let's be honest, it's a video game coming out in 2024 it's probably not going to be great
@@aimz_wolf5286 this has been one of the best years for games wdym?
People, STOP buying Ubisoft games. Things will not get better if we dont vote with our wallets
This comment deserves more likes because it's the truth
I like ubisoft games ac origins and oddysey were awesome and couldn't put star wars outlaws down earlier played 4 hours straight which for me is rare
No. I will continue to buy from anybody that puts out games I can play on my already over priced game console.
Ubisoft is the 'Disney' of video games.
No they aren't
EA is. Ubi at least puts out better games than EA and usually games that are more fun
Their love service games are still some of the longest running and supported. Even keep decent to good player numbers. Most their games are mid to good. None are outright terrible.
People hate Ubi cause it's the "cool" and thing to do. But mid isn't a bad thing. Still fun and a usually a good game to play in your spare time.
All these haters need to get over themselves
Well that is cruel lol
Ah yes, the company that tries to do more original things and anything new for that matter, compared to Elden Souls...
But hey, you all keep enjoying FromSoft just copying and pasting 80% of it's games and calling it a brand new groundbreaking IP, lol.
Appropriate since this is a Disney licensed game.
Literally rent free @@HIPsteHeero
This game is no silk purse. If this game was a sal's ear customers would consider it an game upgrade. Ubisoft said get used to not owning their games. So I don't buy Ubisoft games. "BY YOUR COMMAND!" Isn't that how an affirmative was conveyed in the original Battlestar Galatica?
What? Lmao
First concord, now this? Maybe create a new series called "Before you never buy"
It's okay to think games are just okay. I wish people would know that, it's not like gamerant is dissing them.
I completely forgot that this existed tbh. And it's releasing soon.
