    the dealer told me it was going to cost 400.00 to replace the tail light gaskets as they would have to remove the whole back bumper to complete the job. how ever all I did was to silicone both tail light gaskets from the top to the bottom and NO more leak it only cost me a couple of bucks

    My trunk leak came in through the taillight. The water runs right down the rear window and into channels that send it right down directly behind the lights. If there isn't a rubber seal, the water will come right into the trunk.

      That explains the water in my taillight too! Same trunk leak issue

    • @athhud

      That’s where the leak is. There or the sunroof drains. They completely wasted their time putting sealant over those joints in the sheet metal. Those parts are already sealed on both sides and in between. That is absolutely not where his leak was. There is no way a gallon, or more, of water is going to leak UP into the trunk of the car if it isn’t submerged. Even if it could, it would leak back out. Most dealership techs are idiots. A good one is hard to find.

    Tail Lamp Seals. Replace them. Avoid any shortcuts. If you insist on a shortcut, try Flex Tape to seal things up, however every time you need to replace a bulb it'll be a pain to re seal it.

    Hey brother thanks for the heads up. It’s happening on mine and I was going crazy thinking maybe the guys that detailed car pressure washed the cover to clean it and just stuck it back in there. Went through the car wash today and same issue water in the trunk. Thanks again.

    I have a 2016 impala and have the same exact issue. They said its the tail light sealing. My spare tire whale has water all in it as well as the carpet was wet. Im paying freaking $550!!!! How did you get off paying nothing ?? The car was originally purchased from a Chevrolet dealership as well.

  • @andresanford7120

    my 2016 Impala had the water leak, it has a bulletin with updated thicker taillight gaskets.
    Replace both sides, the dealer only did one on mine. I fixed it by replacing both. The 2nd design gasket it thicker.

    My second time at the dealership. Dropped it off this past Monday and as of today, Friday, I haven't even received a call from the shop. Love the car but for the price I paid, I am not going to drive around with a new car smelling like mildew.

      my sons car leaked rhur the backlights seals were broken.2017.He paid cash for it.Its been at dealership almost 2 months trying to fix mildew smell.Its not coning out.We told them we are not taking it back. Not driving a car with a mildew smell.So they found a 2017 with 2,ooo less miles.They depreciated his car,charge him taxes and was going to charge him 4100 for same car just two miles difference.Is this right?

      Check out Scotty Kilmer's TH-cam channel. He says to get yourself an ozone generator and let it run inside the car for about an hour. Ozone kills everything and all odors will be gone. I priced an ozone generator for about $120. So for tube of silicone and the ozone generator, you can do the job yourself for a lot less than any dealer.

      @foredimples529 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markmorana4135 I didn't even bother to have the dealer look. After doing my own research it seems like it is the tail light gasket. Funny enough the previous owner had it "fixed" at a chevy dealer ( I saw the service history report) but it looks like they did a horrible job. I've been stalling on getting it fixed but I will soon.

      From what I under stand is air bubbles in the coolant system you have to park your car up hill while it's cold and take the coolant cap off and start the car till you see bubbles come out the system but dont let it get to hot with the cap off. You have to monitor this closely. Wear eye protection dont fuck around.

    i had this same issue and they told me it was a leak coming from my sunroof they have 2 drain tubs that come thru the trunk. I suggest everyone that has this issue to email GM directly cause if the only way they will fix this issue is if they have a lot of complaints. SO i haven't got my car back yet but if your still under warranty i would also recommend that they replace all the carpet and the cover that goes over the spare tire compartment and my spare had rust and so did the jack and they are replacing that too Good luck everyone i hope my issue is resolved :(

    • @walterhill2255
      @walterhill2255 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      did your issue get tesolved? was it the sunroof drain lines in the trunk?

    • @TRE1122
      @TRE1122 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm having this same problem...they are also saying it's the sunroof..did you find out what was causing your trunk to get wet?

    • @walterhill2255
      @walterhill2255 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TRAVIA M
      i think i've solved my issues....i put some silicone around the sunroof drain plugs in the trunk (where it attached inside the trunk/ on both sides of the trunk). Also, for me it was leaking from the tail lights. So i also put silicone around the gaskets of the tail lights (including the seam where the trunk weather stripping is) on both sides of the car.

    If anybody still having this issue I fixed mine , I took all the stuff this guy said to take out the trunk (the carpet an side wall stuff, n I seen my sun roof drain hose on passenger side just dangling smh this has to be the issue so I checked the drivers side to see how that 1 was an it was intact so I pushed it back in the hole An now I’m hoping for rain to see what’s up I’ll keep posted an I have pics so hit me if necessary
