  • 2018 Chevy Malibu, Water Leak in Trunk should be fixed now.
    The third brake light was loose and the washers that were suppose to seal the holes were not in good shape. I removed the light and as you will see in the video , had to glue it back together. I used black sealant under the brake light on reinstall and clear is run along the back side to keep the majority of roof water runoff from running under light. It is easier to remove the light with a 8 mm ratchet able wrench. There is limited room unless you remove the headliner more than I did. The hardest part was removing the nuts off the studs on the light (I didn't have the ratchet wrench).
    I watched several videos and noticed a lot of these lights were broke in the exact same spot. Chevy needs to redesign this setup. I hope this helps others out if experiencing water in their trunk with these cars.

      @@original_m.c.pharaoh Did you completely remove the light? I did and put RTV thick on all of it. I reinstalled rubber rings also.

      @@Outdoors4adventure yes I didn’t put new rubber rings but I did put a dap brand silicon around holes Idk if I was too light with it will I be able to remove it again or is it too late since it’s bonded?

      @@original_m.c.pharaoh The rtv I used will peel back off the car with a little effort. I reused the same seals. I rvt them in place on the light. Dont overtighten as the light itself cracks easy. Chevy should have to fix this issue. Just by the views on this video tells me theres a issue.

    Thanks for this. We just bought a beautiful used Malibu just like yours. It's been raining buckets for days and today I got in my beautiful clean newish car and it smelled like ASS! Looked in the trunk and it was soaked. I wondered if we left it open but now we know! Thanks again!

    Thanks for the video! I just bought a used one 3 days ago and noticed a couple stains on the headliner. Now I know ....
    I am calling the dealer today to see if I can get a 3rd light since this one is cracked on both sides. It appears they iver tightened it trying to fix this problem. Thanks again and I hope you have no more issues with it.

    My brother owns a 2017 Malibu Turbo. He lives in San Diego and when it rains he gets water in his trunk, a lot of water. The dealer was unable to find the problem after checking the tail light gaskets. He took one more look at the problem and discovered that the trunk vents open at the slightest of air movement. So he taped over the opening for the bottom 3 vents leaving the top vent opening uncovered. All 4 vents still open and close together but now water doesn't have the ability to leak into the trunk when there is water on the road from rain. Instead of the water leaking into the trunk it runs back out the bottom of the vent. The air pressure in the cabin is still released from the heater/air condition when it not in recirculation. When closing the doors or trunk the air pressure is still released. He also experienced less road noise. This solved the issue of water getting into his trunk. I hope this helps others with the same issue. I was unable to find anyone resolving this problem. Please post your result using this fix.

    Thank you for sharing important information. Especially for a female that just bought the car and would not know the first place to look for a water leak, it is unfortunate that Chevrolet is not making this a recall issue. I would like to say that I absolutely love, love, love the car. Although I don't usually keep too much important stuff in my trunk, however, my mother had recently passed away and I had just picked up photos and scrapbook stuff. We live Forida were we have heavy downpours almost on a daily. Within a day or two I realized my trunk leaked and these irreplaceable memories were ruined. You also mentioned that your warranty had run out and that you did not have the bumper to bumper. My question is, I do have bumper to bumper. Do you know if it would be covered with this warranty. I could call them and ask but it's Sunday, and I'm just kind of anxious to know. I would appreciate any kind of input, if you would be so kind

    • @Outdoors4adventure
      @Outdoors4adventure  ปีที่แล้ว

      A bumper to bumper should cover it. Show them this video with all the folks having issues if they argue. It is a bad designed brake light. So sorry for your loss.

      Sorry to hear that. Good luck. Chevy did a bad design putting holes in the roof like that. The seals under the light are crap.

  • @bmariani52

    Why not put silicon with a caulking gun all around the 3rd brake light groove between the roof and the light assembly ?

    • @Outdoors4adventure
      @Outdoors4adventure  ปีที่แล้ว

      I caulked the whole thing. If you dont get under the light I am not sure it will make a good enough seal.

    My 2018 malibu has been leaking for awhile and I don't know exactly how long . I don't go in my trunk very often because I work 12 hrs a day plus and go straight home from chevron.
    So one day popped open my trunk to retrieve some paperwork booklet from my job and it was full of mold and water. Checked the spare tire area and full of water. And rusted bolt. My overhead roof over my backseat is stain from water damage now and my backseat is also. GM said they won't fix or replace damages and it's a manufacturer default because not only am I experiencing this but hundreds of thousands others are to. Chevrolet has always been my favorite vehicle but after the fact they won't help then I will no longer purchase a vehicle by GM again. And I have to drive daily in my car to make a living in a car full of MOLD and it's disgusting!!!!!! And mold causes health issues

    Theres NOT 1 Malibu that doesn't have a 3rd brake light broken. Chevy!!!! Lets get it together!!!! Trust me ppl, YOU CAN REPLACE THAT LIGHT YOURSELF! DONT GIVE THE DEALERSHIP YOUR MONEY TO FIX, PLS

    • @Outdoors4adventure

      It needs to be a recall. The issue can easily be fixed. A redesign on the light itself would help.

    Purchased 2018 2.0 Premier Turbo...I've had it 3 years and the floorboard on driver side continues to leak ..6 times to dealership..This car has less than 15, 000 miles 😳...Any suggestions?...

    • @Outdoors4adventure
      @Outdoors4adventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ever had the windsheild replaced? If your rear brake light is leaking, I wonder if it's running across headliner and down to the floorboard. We park on a hill with trunk side on low side and the water ran in trunk. If we parked level or front lower than the back it might change where the water ends up.
