    Excellent Pro Tip! This allowed me to replace the intake seals on my 1996 Electra Glide without removing the fuel tank. Worked like a charm!

    Good tip. Very common sense. When you see the finish line on a big project it's easy to forget the "little things". Have a Blessed Christmas Doc!

    Yup! This is a must unless you get lucky, I personally throw on the AC and take it one step further if you do head work and line up your heads as well, not much movement but enough as to where it takes next to nothing to develop a leak.

    What about using ' Witness Marks ' before disassembly??

    • @steveross2797
      @steveross2797 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Smith not as accurate as this method because things move slightly when re-assembled (and who can be sure it was correct to begin with). Best to be accurate when re-installing.

    4 years later this doesn't account for the sideways spacing between the heads. Only way you'll get the manifold properly aligned is by mounting the carburetor then it will be aligned in all axis.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would like to know more about this sideways spacing. Take time to look up a tech named Hiro. He makes a 3-D print of an alignment tool…..Doc

    Doc I need help I want my bike to run its done great for 27.000 miles my petcock has the rubber seal that's ripped I replaced the petcock with one that doesn't have the rubber seal now it will not run. It is a 1200 sportster can you please tell me why it won't run without that original peacock?

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it as simple as your stock petcock had a very small hose connected to the back, this is a vacuum operated on/off. does the new petcock have this? if not then is the original hose open?...Doc

  • @ARMASARMY

    Doc.... I think the tool is called inclinometer?

    • @steveross2797
      @steveross2797 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, this is an inclinometer as the pointer is attached to a weight which will automatically remain at vertical. Setting up the unit to the air cleaner mounts then rotating the scale to line up the pointer with zero will then show how many degrees the manifold needs to be adjusted to bring it back to zero when you move it to the manifold flange. Well spotted! 👍

    Is the factory carb on an 05 fxdl a 40mm CV carb?

  • @GJM866
    @GJM866 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have done this job on carburetor and efi systems. It is a royal PITA! Harley even makes an alignment tool which is suppose to make the job easier. It is junk and didn't help at all, returned it.
