I think what I like the most is the neat-ness of the process and the workshop setup. It's so practical. Also, the finished product has that "custom" carbon fibre look to it which I absolutely love because it adds a little imperfection to it...which I believe is necessary when doing anything custom to your vehicle. It shows it was built, not bought. Epic work. I wish I could spend time with you in the workshop to learn how to do this myself. It's a skill I'd love to have.
Amazing work overall. But I'd change the title to "How I made my carbon fiber splitter lip" because it will get confusing with people expecting a tutorial, then seeing a fast-paced montage of a professional infusion layup into an already made mold... This is a showcase video of your skills.
Hey AJ, just wanted to say thanks for all the great content and tips. I’m working on Making a custom kit for my 04 lambo gallardo. My knowledge is much better in 3D printing but have an endless amount of CF at my disposal. Working on merging the two skills with the help of your videos. Cheers!
I see you used multiple pieces of CF due to the shape of the lip. Are you laying the CF piece overlapping or as a butt joint? Do you have a video about joint to ends together? I already seems the the V style video. I’m more interested in joint 2 ends together like at a corner and not a flat part. Interested in how to make a front lip and or diffuser that has alot of complex shapes
TH-cam is a huge learning platform. Your channel provides interesting insights into car part creation by molding/laminating. In specific the timelapse, where we can see everything you do and get a rough understanding about the effort in time and actions are very helpful. We currently plant to start creating small molds for car parts and have several main stream suppliers available where we can get the carbon fiber cloth from, but getting complete rolls is either not possible or very expensive. So the question is where do you get your clothes from?
You have multiple videos of how you make the parts which is great. But could you show us how to make a mold? Myself & others would really appreciate it.
How much material(layers) would you say is enough to make a front lip/splitter rigid and not too flimsy? I notice you use 1 layer of 3k and 1 of 12k. Is that typical for parts like this that you make?
No. If I did that and the car goes off track it would wipe it all out. Keep them seperate and you may only need just the blade. Atleast that’s the theory.
@AJ Hartman Aero I need to make one for my foxbody so seeing how it's properly done would be awesome. My plan was wax paper and expanding foam and use that as a buck
Hey AJ, been in the composites world a while although i mostly do motorcycle parts rather than car parts myself. I noticed you applied clear coat into the mould... I assume this is 2k automotive clear coat, what are the benefits to applying to the mould then laying up over top of that? I usually clear coat the parts after infusing
@@ivegonemad Not really any of those. You get a perfect finish when spraying into a mould then spraying it on afterwards. You completely remove any chance of orange peel etc. I can't spray clearcoat onto a finished part to save my life but i get a perfect finish if i spray it into the mould first. It also allows you to hide any pin hole from infusing that can be a pain to fill/finalize later with clearcoat. It could be clear gelcoat, or even something like Duratec Sunshield.
@@DelCalloway yes i know cad and have a couple of 3d printers at home and cnc at my job, even a 5-axis cnc robot😉 cnc still a lot 2 learn but got some specialists next to me for teaching.
You can do .5 and even .25 speed in the video settings. If you wanted slower then that, the video would be over an hour long. One day I may do an long format video of a layup.
Love your videos! But would you consider using different music or at least switch them out more often? The two “songs” in your Timelapse are very annoying to listen to. Especially the second one. I might be the only one thinking this, but please consider :) other than that I very much enjoy your videos and seeing the insane results every time makes me wanna make my own molds and parts in the future too 😁
@@ajhartmanaero yeah, I do turn it down sometimes:) I know the selection isn’t the greatest :) still wanna hear what you say though, so I usually just leave the sound volume as is :) keep up the good work none the less! I’ll watch no matter what music is playing anyway :-P

id love to see some more of the plug and mold making process! great work as always
Yeah. Getting a ton of mold questions so gonna do a mold video soon
Me too ;) especially the reinforcement of the mold for these big car parts.

C'est magnifique, j'adore le résultat avec le vernis au démoulage 👍

Keep up the good work

Lately it’s from whoever has what a need at the best price.
@@ajhartmanaero ok, so no insider industry shop. May I ask what fair prices of 2x2 200g carbon fiber cloth per square meter at the US are?
Amazing job, you have inspired me to try to do my own things...did you ever create a gauge pod?
Very nice from beginning to end,
Amazing work
Hi AJ, you need to spray the epoxy before infusing to avoid holes in the surface. Right!
No.

Check back in a few days. Just finished recording on and have to edit it all down.
@@ajhartmanaero Sweet, that's great news. Looking forward to it thanks!
Yes but how do you attach it?👍❤️🇨🇦
why you dont using pva or mould release instead using clear coat ?
Thanks

hello friend please answer 🙏🏻. what is "clear coat"?
Thanks for putting this together, AJ. Not too bad for a mustang guy. ;)
As a mustang guy, that’s about the best compliment I can get!
Can you do a video on how you make your molds for a new part?
Soon.
What is the spray adhesive your using to fix the carbon cloth in place for the lay up?
Spray adhesive
Where are you location? Wondering if you can build me carbon fiber fenders and hood for my 700+ hp GMC Syclone?
How did you get no seam line even though you used multiple sections of carbon fiber?

Smoother part, stronger mold, probably used a a release agent as well

Did u design it yourself? Wonna make one for my car. Have cad, cnc and 3d printing at my disposal for the mold.
Yes, designed myself. I went old school and pads a foam plug.

However the person wants.
Super nice
Can u show how u make a mould for that?
Yeah a ton of people are asking for mold videos so gonna try and do one soon.

I gave a thumbs up but for me it's way to fast x30, I would love to see some of the video slowed right down like when you are placing the carbon fibre
